New site? Maybe some day.
so im going to be buying a new drum set in the next few months, but i keep going back and forth on what color options (panel and hardware) i should pick since they are going to paint them for me once they are done making them.
so far i was thinking of either black on black, but they offer a nice metal grain finish, so if it wouldnt show up with black. other options were black chrome which i could add the finish, but that probably looks a lot more like grey. or maybe silver aluminum with same on hardware.
im leaning towards black on black but the metal grain looks pretty awesome. maybe black chrome since i can put the metal grain on that?
this is the metal grain finish
suggestions? |

black or gtfo
it's not an instrument, it's a piece of furniture. (just ask any of my bandmates)
besides, colors are for the false anyway |

bullshit. Don't feel you have to stay with the norm. (black) My purple drums are beautiful, and people seem to love the way they look. |
Yeah, everybody has black drums, the other week in Everett (at the show we didn't get to play) in a half-drunk stupor I had trouble figuring out which drums were mine...
Alex, are you getting a whole new custom kit? And what are you doing with your old drums? |
My purple shorts are beautiful, and people seem to love the way they look. |
and LOL at drums are furniture. "Man, I'd really like to sit on those" |
Black chrome on black sounds hot. Or purple. |
what it comes down to is that there are SOOO many nice finishes you can get. (especially on custom drums) You should also take time to check out all of the exotic wood veneers. Some of the birds-eye, or quilted maple veneers make drums look spectacular. I mean shit, those two finishes you posted above look tremendously tremendous. (and i've heard some "trick" sets before, the special metal alloy they use has great tone and projection.) |
shiny natural wood grain is very tasty no matter what. i'd sit on those. |
give it a chrome tail pipe and truck nuts. |
"he'll be like a chicken caught in a tractors nuts." |
But for reals: Black chrome hardware and black paint with a soft-touch clearcoat. |
more black black black black? |
Blue on black.. flys on a river |
Black stain with black chrome would be cool too.
Jim, you gotta realize that these people play metal. They don't liek zee vibrant colours as much. |
our drummer has purple. i say go with green. green's a great color. |
im leaning towards black chrome, i think i would look pretty awesome. yea, its black, but i dont think there are many black chrome kits out there
might look something like this
i knew at least one person would say that haha |

yea, got a decent amount back from taxes, plus i just graduated college this semester, so i got some monies in the mails. havent decided yet if ill sell my old ones since it might be nice to have a back up, they are in pretty bad shape tho, couple stripped screws, and lots of rust since its 10+ years old and i had to store it in a basement for a while (bad idea). |

yea, i was originally thinking of black with chrome or some type of non gloss silver for the hardware, but i figured thats too plain and boring.
what colors would be nice if i choose to not use black at all? there are some good candy paint finishes, just afraid i wont like it as much over time, since im pretty traditional when it comes to drum set colors. i love the way my pearl set looks and its just a glossy black with chrome hardware
i was thinking about a nice blood red crimson, but im just too afraid when i get it that its not going to the be shade of red that i was looking for. black is safe |

Black stain with black chrome would be cool too.
Jim, you gotta realize that these people play metal. They don't liek zee vibrant colours as much. |
Sure, and i've also seen plenty of metal drummers with stained wood grain that doesn't look all vibrant and gay like mine. |

wood veneers are awesome, but they do offer colors that you just can't do on wood drums. matte black is one, since it would be a really pain in the ass to do on wood. black chrome seems like another that would be rather difficult to throw on a wood kit.
really liking the black chrome idea |

it sorta depends on the finish. i remember seeing Proscriptor's kit, it was gold flake or something. not that it looked bad, but i remember thinking "this dude plays black metal, his kit looks too bright" haha |
well i'm sure a black chrome set would look muento brutal. |

yea thats what im thinking too, i was trying to go with something that is really unique. your kit always stands out and grabs attention. i figure since i get to choose the color why go for something boring, but black is one of my favorite colors. so maybe black chrome is the way to go
thoughts? |
If that was Proscriptor's kit at MDF, that drumset was the village bicycle at that show. |
I've seen a few black chrome kits, and i seem to remember always liking them. How many pieces are you going to order? Sizes? |

you're probably right haha, i didnt get a chance to go last year, and they were one the bands that i havent gotten a chance to see live, and really wanted to. looked at the pictures rev took and remember seeing that kit. |

**I think Alex deserves a round of applause for graduating from Berkley this weekend. fucking awesomeness.**

yea, as of now im liking the black chrome idea with the metal grain finish. something like this.
im doing a 5 piece kit, very similar to what i have now, i didnt want to stray too far away from the dimensions i already have
12x9
13x11
16x16
22x18
14x7 snare
what sizes do you have on your kit jimbo? |

i made it bitches! this is my way of celebrating haha, i think the percentage of people who actually graduate is like 35% since they have so many drop outs, they had to crack down hard on admissions |
paint everything tiger or leopard print |
I'm not purple. Just the tip of my weener is sometimes. |

well that explains it! i knew the floor tom probably wasnt a 16x16, gives it a great sound to it tho, very tight |
this is what black chrome would look like on the drums i guess, since its a powder coat i guess it comes out a little lighter. it looks pretty good, this doesnt really look like black to me tho, more like regular chrome, maybe a bit darker than usual im sure.
thoughts?

although i was half kidding with my above comment, its sort of true having a big black kit onstage just looks more menacing
on a serious note, i stripped all the shells off my ghetto drums and spray painted the wood matte black and believe it or not, it looks AWESOME.
some parts of the wood absorb more of the paint so it sort of highlights the wood grain, i.e. the dark parts of the grain are shinyer and the lighter parts are more matte. im still debating whether im gonna do this when i get my custom 20" pair of bass cannons, or just stain them black (black powder coat hardware as well hahaha) |
it wont have that kind of metal finish of course, but it would have the one i posted at the top with that color, i kinda like it, but afraid it will look a bit different on a drum |
can you get blood colored drums? |
also you should get the scaphism and forced logos on your new (or old) bass drum head |
we can make them blood colored at practice. we have knives |
can you get blood colored drums? |
i thought of this color also, im just afraid when i tell him crimson, it will turn out the be a shade different from what i asked for, i can give him a color sample, but it seems like the actual powder coat process changes the tint a little. i dont want to end up with a burgundy drum set |
can you get blood colored drums? |
i dunno, it just doesnt have that pop to the color, the more i think about it the more i want something glossy.
