YES, right off the bat, I'll admit that I'm a super n00b when it comes to home-recording. I already have a 1/4" to 1/8" guitar cable; ARE THERE ANY FREE RECORDING SOFTWARE PROGRAMS I CAN DOWNLOAD??? Also, is it safe to record directly to your laptop w/a guitar w/o using some kind of mic setup?
All I'm trying to do is record single tracks of a few songs so my drummer can import them into his iPod to practice to @ home between practices. Sadly, I'm currently too broke to put up the $40-ish that Cakewalk costs, so... idk what to do...
Any help is much appreciated!
i been using audacity just to record 2 track mixes straight off a mixing board. works good for a free program.
You can plug directly into your laptop if you want. will sound like shit. You should use a hi to lo impedance converter at least of not some sort of direct box.
You could use ampfarm or amplitube to re-amp your tracks later but i dont think those programs are free.
Thanks!!! Just downloaded it.
I'm def not going for top quality recordings, just something audible that the drummer can use. I'm sure I'll have to do some tweaking, but, I'd never expect recording (even 'simple' single tracks) to be easy.
