loved the first one, online was good too. haven't played the second one. the gears of war backstory is actually pretty good even though they don't really allude to much in the first game.

GoW is relevant because it's the first over-the-shoulder shooter that felt like an FPS.

I really enjoyed the second one. Totally overrated, but Horde mode is fucking fun as shit.

Backstory? Pretty good? haha, that is hands down the worst part of the game(s). A college bro could have mustered a better storyline.

the planet it takes place on was colonized and taken over by humans, you'd never know it from the game because it's filled with unreal tournament football players but the humans are the real scum and the bugs just want their planet back.

Shit, the games are really terrible at explaining that. Still not so hot a story though.

actually they don't explain it at all, as far as i know they cut out most of the story fat because it was going on 360 and they needed that fanbase, haha

Finally grabbed this and about to start... I've heard nothing but great things about it. Traded black ops in for it and only paid $40.

I have found this game EXTREMELY underwhelming compared to Gear 1 and 2. Horde 2.0 is pretty sweet though. Took me and my 3 friends 3.5 hours to get through all 50 waves on one map.

A couple of hours in and horde is pretty awesome. beast mode is not fun at all(maybe I don't get it?). Starting the campaign soon.
