I was driving down main this morning and to my surprise the bus parked outside the Palladium belongs to none other than KREATOR. Apparently they're playing an old school set. Not sure if I can make it.

moved upstairs. it wouldnt have been moved upstairs if king diamond were playing.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Mar 5,2010 7:27pm
Wish I could make it to this show, but my dear friend who moved to Ann Arbor for a job is back in town. I'm typing this from Sam's, where I'm waiting for not one, but twoquarts of succulent lopsterbisks to bring to the soiree. I feel like it adds an inch to my already formidable wang to say that Dan Mongrain replaced me in Capharnaum. Hehehe

Anyone know what time VOIVOD and KREATOR go on?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 5,2010 8:49pm
i think voivod go on in an hour. kreator goes on,i think from 10:45 to 12:10.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 5,2010 8:54pm
it's upstairs and there is no flash so... dont expect anything from pictures. i want voivod to play everything off killing technology and dimension hatross. 2 of the best things canad ever did for the world.

lazerus a.d. played, but i only ran in for their tail end.

evile got a huge response. it took them by surprise. The singer said the name of the band and i think it was ee-veal like the meat.
nachmystium are setting up now. weird since the first time i shot them was 3am on a work night in olneyville. hell of a drug.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 5,2010 9:38pm
nachmystium was semi-predictable. their new drummer was just ok. he wasnt a savage on the drums like the original guy.

toggletoggle post by boblovesmusic   at Mar 5,2010 9:44pm
Hey rev, no flashing tonight? I miss your bright light!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 5,2010 9:45pm
i miss it too. 100% horrible photography in action.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 5,2010 10:53pm
keator who?!? really after that performance by voivod, i could just go home and sleep soundly. they played voivod, brainscan, and a few other that just plain kicked ass. their set pretty much made my year. i also think that the guitarist who replaced piggy was the guitarist in martyr. now that is funny. such a great performance and the crowd went crazy for them.

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at Mar 6,2010 8:31am
Voivod just OWNED the night. I still love Kreator but GODDAMN, Voivod's old songs sounded so great.

what was up with the White Power dude Kanye-ing the mic before Kreator's encore? I didn't catch what he said. I'll bet it pissed him off to be pulled offstage by a huge black security guy.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 6,2010 10:33am

toggletoggle post by Dr. Sphincto at Mar 6,2010 10:50am
how was Kreator?

toggletoggle post by narlus at Mar 6,2010 11:16am
personally i thought Kreator was kinda boring and left early. Voivod was excellent. do they usually do that Pink Floyd cover (Astronomy Domine) or was that a one-off?

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at Mar 6,2010 11:44am
I dunno i last saw Voivod in 2002 or so. I think they did that song...

toggletoggle post by boblovesmusicfromthefuture at Mar 6,2010 12:39pm

it's on their 'Nothingface' album

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 6,2010 4:22pm
well, i just typed a bunch and my dog hit my phone losing it. once again.
kreator were awesome, but i was there for voivod. their set list was pretty good concidering they are playing off a new album. i love that they play like they are in an arena even when they are in a small club. also, the drummers kick drum was brutal from stage left.
one of the best thing about kreator is their songs are really short so if you dont like a song, wait 2-3 minutes.

toggletoggle post by Josh drunk at Mar 6,2010 4:41pm
What did Voivod play off the first two records?

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at Mar 6,2010 4:48pm
let's see...
Voivod (opener)
Ripping Headaches
...
I think that was it. Lots more stuff from Killing Tech and Hatross

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at Mar 6,2010 4:50pm
I've been going to shows for over 20 years, and I don't think I've ever been in a more devoted, screaming-lyrics-along, fists in the air crowd than during Voivod last night.

It was crazy!

toggletoggle post by Josh drunk at Mar 6,2010 4:52pm
They played Ripping Headaches??? Really?? Shit, I might've gone to see that.

I got there a few minutes before voivod went on. Their performance was one of the best I've ever seen. I grabbed away's art book and have been looking through it all weekend.

bold claim! if i saw them live, i'm sure it would have changed what i think of them...

i think you would've had to get into at the time ROOOAAAARRRR first came out (i think '87)

if i my first impression of Voivod was after their newer releases (after Nothingface), they may have failed to grab me, too

RRROOOAAARRR came out in '86. 1986 was totally the best year for thrash. Just about every underground band put out their best record in '86.

RRROOOAAARRR
Reign in Blood
Master of Puppets
Peace Sells...
Darkness Descends
Pleasure to Kill
Eternal Devastation
The Return of Martha Splatterhead
etc etc

even Horrified was recorded in '86

My first exposure to them was Nothingface (If I remember right, I was in middle school and looking for songs by the band Nothingface.) Or I may have seen Thrashing Rage on Muchmusic Loud before then. Point being, I got into them a good bit after ROOOAARRR came out (Granted, it came out around when I was born)

But yeah, if I had heard, say, Angel Rat first (As much as I love it now) I probably wouldn't have given them a second listen.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 9,2010 10:24am
