Buddy unloaded a 1989 Samick strat on me when he found out I was 6-stringless (my LTD mysteriously disappeared after a Hollagrim show). Thing's missing a tuning peg and the nut's cracked, a few rusty screws but otherwise in great shape (candy red sparkle finish is primo). Anybody know anything about these guitars? As I understand it, Samick is now pretty much just the Korean manufacturer for Squier, Washburn, and the other cheapo strat copies, but back in the day I think they actually had a good rep for this kind of axe. (I seem to remember the dudes from Mr. Big or some other Guitar World-oriented band being endorsed by them.) It's obviously not an ideal metal guitar, but I'm curious to see how it sounds once I get strings on it and play it. Seems like it's at least well-made.

I have a Samick Greg Bennett Custom ...love it. samick does make alot shit though. for what you paid for it you could prob make it pretty awesome with better pick ups and what not

nice, you're right about the samicks, i sold them at UM but they still make decent stuff and have been around since the 60's...re-nut that and you got a keeper dude

you worked at Union Music? i thought they only employed hippy burn-outs from the 60s

hah, and me, worked there a year and a half. actually only 2 of them would qualify for that. it's funny the impression people get of them, they're all solid guys. it was cool to work there and play the mini-korg for hours.

ya they aint bad dudes...just a little out there. one of em tried to make me pay to fix a guitar cab i rented that fell apart on me....besides that i still do most of my business there.

Just got back from my guy (Barnstorm Music in Medway), got the tuner on and taking a break for curry before tossing in that nut. Psyched.

You lost your bass?

Nah, the regular-ass guit-fiddle. Brought mine along as backup for the show and it either walked off from my (locked) van or got nabbed from the practice space after. (This was like a year and a half back.) So I've been totally stalled on writing shit (I really never write on bass).

Intonation is fucked as fuck right now but once I get home from practice with a tuner we'll see how it plays. Think I'm gonna shim the neck and shave the nut down; I'm too lazy of a guitar player to play anything this high on the regular.
