New site? Maybe some day.
I have an itunes gift card burning a hole in my pocket. |
I would pick Hypocrisy! Out of all!
The rest are good too, except Nile. If you want that middle eastern sound...download Melechesh! They do it 1000 times better. |
Nile rapes. end of story. one of the heaviest albums of all time, let alone 2009 is Nile's latest. |
Nile is fucking boring. They have talent, but they throw in a few catchy middle eastern sounding guitars and then everyone loves them. Melechesh does it way fucking better and they know how to play the guitar far better. |
Not to mention Melechesh are ACTUAL middle eastern influence and not goddamn caucasians ripping it off! |
you dont listen to Nile then. it's a lot more than just "throwing in middle eastern sounding guitars". fucking listen to Annihilation of the Wicked or Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka or their newest release, Those Whom the Gods Detest all the way through. you will see. its heavy, fast, atmospheric, and just excellently written and produced. anyone that says "they throw in a few catchy middle eastern sounding guitars" has no fucking clue what they are talking about. at all. |
also bands like Bilocate (from Jordan) and Myrath (from Tunisia/The Tunisian Republic) both do the "middle eastern" thing well. not to mention that Melechesh doesn't sound a thing like Nile so you can't really compare them. Nile is still leagues beyond them in terms of quality of music. |
i keep thinking this is about a tour with all of these bands. disapoint |

That tour would fucking DESTROY. If it happened. |

Damn striaght! |

Actually I have listened to Nile. I said that because there is only a few interesting sections of some songs that have those "catchy" middle eastern guitars. That doesn't mean anything because It's heavy, fast and atmospheric. I agree that their sound is heavy and that's all I fucking hear, when I saw them live they were boring as hell...a lot of people there were even falling asleep.
Melechesh brings a fresh more technical sound to the middle eastern style. The material is written far more complex, and you can hear that even if you listen to just one song for about 30 seconds in. I'm not talking just about the solos themselves, I'm talking about just the way the song is set up in general. You'd have to be a pretty talented guitarist to pull off their songs.
I'm not trying to argue, everytime someone says Nile sucks, people get all offense..Nile is not worth fighting over at all. |
your point would be valid but you keep saying Melechesh is great and while being acceptable and enjoyable to listen to, they are nowhere near the caliber that Nile is. Boring live... back in 2003? sure. Boring live now? probably not. the two albums after "Catacombs..." were very boring. "Annihilation of the Wicked" was the reinvention of the band and that album remains to be a bar that most other metal bands simply can not pass.
its just like the people that say Meshuggah is just all palm muted chugchug.
people are entitled to their opinions, but please know you're wrong. |
YES! Good to see some OL love on here. |
all i know is Melechesh takes the reggaeton beat back to where it belongs. |

Hahahaha... I had that video on this wicked radbadical VHS when I was like 12 - it also had Testament, Lizzie Borden, and fucking Frehley's Comet on it IIRC. There was this ratty 80's version of Mistress Juliya hosting it - something something Beverly. I think.
So the moral of this thread is buy a Frehley's Comet album. |

Hey, ouchdrummer... Is the corpse gonna be playing with Scaphism and Forced Asphyxiation come April?? I heard this rumor.. Tell me it's true |
That last Prying Anus album was pretty boring. They should have called it quits after Killing on Adrenaline. |

Melechesh simple? You should be kneeling before Proscriptor! Way more interesting rhythms than Nile's entire catalog.
AOTW is still one of my favorite DM albums. |

Proscriptor is fuckin brutal. |
Why would Exodus be one of the choices? That's a completely different subgenre of metal. Vader is great, but Nile is SUPERIOR. I'm sorry gentlemen but the correct answer is NILE. |
Exodus isn't doing anything special anymore. Neither is Vader. Nile, however, never fails to impress, at least with their albums. |
