I currently run an Ampeg SVT4-Pro head through a Basson 4x10 cab that pushes 1000 watts at 8 ohms. I just got an offer to buy an Ampeg Pro Series 4x10 cab that pushes 600 watts at 4 ohms. My question is would it be a bad idea to run both of these cabs at the same time in dual mono? The Basson site says not to pair their cabs with another brand, but I'm not sure if that's just a gimmick to buy another one of theirs or if it's actually true.

Any help and answers are appreciated.

Oh yeah, the head pushes 1200 watts bridged-mono at 4 ohms and 900 watts bridged-mono at 8 ohms.

Nope, 1 cab is 8ohms and the other is 4 ohms. The they need to be the same ohms.

sell the basson and get an ampeg 4x10 HLF. watts don't matter as much as usable low end frequency, which the HLF has in spades. then you'll have two 4 ohm cabs getting pushed by 600 watts of clean, 4 ohm power each. this will be loud (and low!) enough to shake the fillings out ya teeth.

spaldo is absolutely right, unless you are running the subwoofers to a PA system, you'll rarely need watts in the thousands.

Two different cabs with huge wattage ratings and impedance differences? No thank you.

yeah, you shouldn't mix an 8ohm cab with a 4ohm.

Thanks dudes. I kinda thought it was a bad idea I just wanted to know for sure.

Oh and Jeff sorry I missed your show last night. I promised my buddy I'd go to the show up in Henniker which ended up being lame. I'll see you for our "mini-tour" next weekend.
