i might be getting two of these... though I need to find out if running one on vga, and the other on dvi will be a problem... anyone here know?

i'm only going to purchase both of them if i can get the no interest until 2005 deal.

i was going to get two lcds for my computer so when i run protools i can have the mix and edit windows up at the same time..but i choose not to seeing im still trying to figure out all the features on pro tools, and the mac im getting is gonna be 100 times better to run it on now.

I've run Pro Tools both on pc and mac. I've got 2, 1gHz laptops and a G4 800 mHz. The speed of the system only matters when you start using a multitude of RTAS (realtime effects). More ram means more tracks. The bottle neck for the system (independent of Os/arch) is disk access. I have cardbus firewire cards for both laptops, and directly record to an external 7200rpm drive. Trying to record onto anything less will delay drive IOs making 1) Protools bitch and 2) your ass twitch.

As far as a difference between PC and MAC, I have seen none -except the annoyance of partitioning a firewire drive for both HFS and NTFS.

I recommend sticking with PCs, especially since XP is slowly becoming the industry standard. Supporting OS X has become more of an annoyance than anything else. Digidesign now has a unified widget library, so the interface is the same across platforms.

i would stick with a pc but its a pain in the ass to bring around to studios and what not when i was in a band to record something. im getting a powerbook g4 laptop and its alot easier for me to lug something like that around then my whole pc. that and i dont feel like spending the extra $80 to get the pc upgrade when the mac version i have is the latest version

stupid things I noticed lately:
Most of Microsoft's keyboards they make now group the function keys in groups of 3's and not 4's now.

Most of Logitech's keyboards they make now put the backslash key next to the enter key, not on top of it.

accents are no biggie and if you are on one of those keyboards..
it's USUALLY because you should be using the accents and hence
makes them useful. i don't think i ever used a "american" keyboard
until i moved to the US...i got used to it pretty fast.

it's doing awesome. since I moved, it became parts of an entertainment system. I still need to fix the sound card/tv card so that I can get sound recorded when I record stuff.
I also bought 2 250GB drives for it.
what I'm looking for now: a cheap 1080I DVI card for it... so I can hook it up to my tv properly.

finally got my shit up and running. I originally got all this shit over 2 weeks ago but the motherboard was DOA and I had to RMA it. Got it all running again a few days ago.

The case is the same as yours Aaron. Cept it's black and has a 120mm fan spot on the back instead of 2 80's. Did your USB headers for the front USB ports have 1 plug that has 4 pins and on that has 5 pins? They wouldn't work at first so I did some reading and other people with the same case and a similar motherboard to mine have had to disconnect the extra pin on the 5-pin plug. I just disconnected that whole plug and am just using one of the front ports right now. I think I'd rather die than open this case again. (troubleshooting the old dead motherboard wasn't too fun). Good case all in all I think. The fans it came with don't really do much though and I replaced the PSU, so I'm not sure about that.

Also, I'll add that the new Microsoft Intellimouse's fucking suck. The new scroll wheels on them don't have "bumps".. I guess you'd call it. They just roll smooth, Which makes it impossible for games. If you move the wheel as little as humanly possible you'll scroll through like 5 of your weapons in a FPS. Also, they updated their Intellipoint software from version 4.x to version 5.0. In doing that, they decided to remove the Alt+Tab function you could bind one of the mouse keys to, as well as the ability to bind the extra mouse buttons to keyboard keys. (which was great for games). Say goodbye to the custom profiles you could make for different programs also. I used to just customize the settings so whenever I opened all my games, the keys would automatically bind to keyboard keys. Then I'd set up the games so those keyboard keys would bind to game functions.

returned my shit Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer a few days ago. Exchanged it for a Logitech MX-510. Good stuff. Only complaint is that they should follow microsoft's old plan and add support in their software for custom profiles so the mouse buttons are allowed to have different functions depending what the current application is.

I go logitech too...
though ms's blue tooth would be cool since then people in the place next to you can hack your mouse/keyboard/computer.
