this is the first xmas i will actually be happy to receive socks and any useful clothing.
They emulate barefoot walking. Huge rubber soles can weaken your feet and calves and throw off your balance. I usually work out barefoot but when I go to the gym back at school, I need to wear some sort of footwear.
i keep buyin myself new games for the 360 and not playing them cuz i'm still addicted to Call of Duty. maybe i should just buy more copies of call of duty

Bought myself the Orange Box for 360, Painkiller- "Execution Ground" dbl cd and Ulver-"Shadows of the Sun" cd. I am happy enough with those stellar purchases.

All my pants had holes in them from work so my mom bought me a few new pairs of jeans. I haven't opened any gifts yet but I'm guessing I'll get more cool shit the day after Christmas because I'll probably go up to Providence and do some shopping.
a new house to rent. we are leaving a small 2 bedroom house, wifey and I were in the living room, the kitchen is huge but useless, the bathroom is more like an outhouse, has old drafty windows all this for 625$/month!
the new place is a 5 bedroom, nice kitchen, 2 car garage, huge loft upstairs which means wifey and I will have a door on our room, has new windows all around, all this and more for 700$ a month
how are they gay? they've got nothing but positive feedback on photography-on-the.net which is the only site that I looked at for reviews of these batteries.

not that it matters much as if I need them to last longer or provide more power I have 8AA external packs to use on each flash.

Eneloops are low discharge batteries and if left unused will have more power in them after 6 months then will Powerex batteries. However, if both are used immediately or shortly after charging Powerex 2500/2700NIMH would last longer since they have more power to start with.
I have both batteries and mainly use Powerex in my D300 grip & SB-900 flash. I also have a battery tester and test the extra batteries I take with me. If I didn.t do any charging before leaving I will always take at least 1 set of eneloops because they loose less charge just sitting around.
Normally, I use the eneloops for weather radios, LED flashlights & small lanterns that sit for long times between use & charge.
those external packs are worthless too if you get powerex 2700's. You will end up just melting your flash. Oh that's right.. nikon's flashing system is better than canon's. How could I forget.

Canon speedlights work okay for me, I'd rather use actual strobes over speedlights for anything I do. Besides, a picky-ass bitch could find something wrong with Nikon speedlights if they wanted to.
It's recommended not to shoot more than 20 continuous flashes. I almost never shoot at full power with my speedlights, nor would I ever spray more than 2-4 shots at a time anyways. The packs I mainly need to extend the life.
I have TONS of problems with nikon's flashes. I'm just glad that I don't use canon cause I would find even more things wrong with them I'm sure. I usually shoot manual 1/16 since I shoot ISO 1600 for everything. I would probably never use strobes. I would just use flashes and CLS unless I was in a studio. Still, I would wish that the strobes did CLS. I have another SB-900 on my xmas list.
saw this somewhere:
"If you have your flash hooked up to an external power source like a Quantum Turbo and shoot burst mode, Canon's set up will shut the flash down if it gets to a certain temperature. Nikon's will not....yep....it will physically melt. Now, whether this happens in a mixed manufacture mode, I don't know. Depends where they put the circuitry to take care of all that.....however, because they fixed it in the SB900, I have to assume it's all in the flash."
"".....however, because they fixed it in the SB900" - you give too much credit to Nikon for the SB-900 melt down fix. All what they did they installed a temperature sensor and logic that will shut down the flash when the tube/head gets too hot. This logic can be disabled and the SB-900 will melt down as quickly as the SB-800 or even faster.
The SB-900 has a bigger flash head, but otherwise is not much better than the SB-800 as far as the heat resistance or flash "rugedness" is concerned."

I got a PW FlexTT5 so I could trigger my strobes + have a speedlight still connected to the camera.
you are right about the nikon temp thing. It's great and sucky that you can fry your SB-800's easily. But that is wrong about the temp-sensor. The themo is in the battery compartment and not on the tube. The SB-900 turns off way before it would over heat. Kind of pisses me off.

we're ruining this thread. awesome!
So you can control different flashes and change their modes from that? Like say you want
1) flash/strobe at M 1/32
2) flash/strobe at iTTL -2.5
3) flash/strobe at M 1/64
and then you change your mind and want
1) flash/strobe at M 1/8
2) flash/strobe at A - 2/3
3) flash/strobe at iTTL + 1.3
etc... with just changing things on the back of your camera?
post by porphyria at Dec 24,2009 6:07pm
ideally yes, but for me, just to trigger the strobes. of course the 580 connected to the camera would still maintain ETTL, ect. You're suppose to be able to control modes/power wirelessly to all your speedlights but supposedly there's an issue with RF interference from the speedlight which causes misfires. Not sure if that's been taken care of yet, I heard they were supplying something to wrap around your flash as a temporary solution but I didn't get one with my TT5 so maybe it's fixed. I would need all my other PW's to be either the FlexTT5's or the mini's with hot-shoe connectors on the top... I use 4 Plus II's and a MultiMax.
my dad got me a bass micro cube, awesome! although this pretty much means im contractually obligated to play steely dan songs w him at every family gathering now

A new computer chair from my dad
Heavenly Sword and King of Fighters XII for the PS3 from....well, technically me, but I said they were from my little bro (He's broke this year. College student.)
My dad's going to get us all more stuff, he just really didn't have time for the real Christmas shopping yet.
a Presto Cool Daddy deep fryer, cozy slippers, a cup holder car organizer, my folks sent 500$ a week ago which RULED HARD cuz we needed to pay some bills.

My dad got me the Hangover and Family Guy vol. 6 on DVD. A couple books. Some other cool stuff. My mom got me mostly cash and a new phone. My sister bought me five boxes of lemon cookies.
GREAT mouse! I would have one, but the button placement is very right hand dominant. As a lefty, I switch sides for some games, so I got the Lachesis instead. You're going to rip up every FPS you play. Switchable DPI buttons makes headshots easy as pie.
So far I got a box of mints, a guitar strap, and some cutting boards. Those are likely to be the good ones this year, too. I bought myself a Zune 120 to replace my 80, but as my other thread says it arrived with a busted hard drive.
ipod (my first ever)
socks
winter boots
$50 gift certificate to daddys
sweet multi layer jacket that makes me look mad gangsta
lots of bathroom supplies (a tradition in my family)

Late entry: My tasteful and worldly singer scored me a bottle of Ardbeg 10, which this guy (Jim Murray) called the best whisky in the world. I may have to concur. Fucking delicious.
