I can't answer that question, they are both important in there very own special ways. I think they are both essential to a progressive metal fan.

i love death and cynic but if i was given a choice to listen to either one for the rest of my life i would probably chose cynic.

More eclectic sound goes to cynic. More composition and meaningful releases goes to death.

But Unquestinable Prescense > cynic and death
