So I went into work today for my normal sunday morning shift, wake up at 730 and stay at work til six, and I find out now I start my overnight shift.

Monday at 11pm....

so basically I have to force by body to stay up til 7 this morning so I can get on a good sleep schedule to adjust for work.

oh, and this is my "day off" for work aka from Sunday night until monday at 11 hahaha. the only day off.

So for anyone who has ever worked overnight, how is it for social life, school, and the body?

i'll say this though, a two dollar an hour raise is worth this.

Its bad for all of those things. Very bad. At least from personal experience of working nights for over a year. You will never feel fully rested ever no matter how much you sleep. Your social life goes to complete shit. You stop seeing the sun and get really bad depression. I can't say how it is for school but I doubt its good.

i did it until i threatened to burn down a co-worker's house and kill her boyfriend if she didnt stop fucking with me. needless to say, she told a supervisor and i no longer had that job. what a bitch.

I plan on being up during the day so I can get the sun part and the socializing part. But yeah, I worry about depression from seeing fewer people.

but on the bright side, I almost went Conan the barbarian about twenty times when I worked during the days on the frontlines as a shift manager at the local BJS so now not having to deal with the lowest denominator of customers who argue over a dollar...I get to spend time alone the way I like it at night.

I actually really enjoyed working nights for the first few months and then all those things sort of crept up on me.

exactly what Frank said. it was pretty cool for the first 2 months or so, but it took a terrible toll on everything after a while. its just too much stress, i felt like i was falling apart.

I don't mind it. Going to shows has taken a toll, and that's probably the part that sucks the most. You can always do things before you go to work with your buds.

I do overnights a lot during winter breaks and summer breaks from school. Not having any customers and working with only a few people is great. However, I found my days started revolving around work since I would work 6 at night till 6 in the morning and wouldn't wake up till 3 in the afternoon. Getting back into a regular day schedule is tough too after doing overnights for a couple of weeks.

it was strange going back, but it took about 1 millionth of the time it took to get used to working at night. the other thing is that the people i worked with were all awesome, anyone who works overnights is a bit loopy to begin with.
