There are a few good servers that have people.
No cz2 or haunted or rock2 servers though. Most of these newbs play dustbowl or 2fort. I like the well personally
lol i was only in that server for 2 minutes before you arrived. no way i had 45 deaths. -3 probably because i kept getting yelled at by a couple of the players i know to go medic.
i find the demoman difficult...he excels at defense and that's his niche, but i suck at close range encounters, i usually just run backward and launch bombs and pray i land a hit. my strong classes are medic, pyro, soldier, heavy. i'm terrible with spy, scout. engineer and sniper i can manage.

Demoman up close can be hard. I pretty much bounce my pipes off the wall at an angle so it hits them. Or I prime a nade till the last sec but you can't do that in tf2 from what I remember

I rape kids in TF2 because the game is easy just like cs:s. Theres something about the HL1 games that if you're even remotely good at them you will destroy anyone in their source equivalents.
In TF2, demoman has a 4 barrel grenade launcher that detonates on player/target impact or after a couple seconds, and a remote sticky bomb launcher. Oh yeah, and a whiskey bottle. It'll probably have more weapon choices when they release the demoman update.
yeah TF2 is pretty easy because of that. I try to join the hardcore clan servers with mega nerds having seizures into the mics - I turn the mics off. TF2 strats are easy to communicate with one-word keyboarding.
i made a steam account the day half-life 2 was released, back when it didn't work at all, i have an email address attached to it that i never use anymore, and who knows how many different usernames i had...i show up in games now as SYMBYOSYS but it doesn't let me login with that name.
Exactly. Symbyosys is your Steam Friends Alias. The aliases aren't unique and therefore cannot be used to add someone to friends. If you remember you account password I recommend changing your account email via your settings so you can either A.) figure out what your username is or B.) use that email to give out to people so they can add you to friends.
cool. also, this new steam thing wont let me change my name what the hell. i know how to do it, but it doesnt do anything, it just says 'player' and most servers kick you if your name is player. this is lamer than FDRs legs

I think thats a bug with TFC.
To change your name: Open the console (~ key) > Type "name" then the name you want.
example: name arillius

The steam forums all talk about how tfc is dying due to the majority of servers having bots.
But I noticed more Newb players are joining because it was just included un done valve bundle.
I shoulve taken a screenie last night. I was like 60-15 as a demoman but had to leave early.
I played TFC for a little while the other night.
Something I never noticed back in the day because of slower framerates - the hit detection in this game really shows it's age. The character models skip around even at a solid 60 FPS. Um...lots of other things...old game is old. I forgot how wonky the multiplayer code was in this game.
The QUAKE 3 Team Fortress mod was a hell of a lot better than this. The game's engine was much more suited for it.

Q3F/ETF are dead. They were awesome but only lasted a year before the community imploded on itself.

It's very fast paced.. Not sure what you mean by skip around. Comparing it to newer fps games, yea, but it's over 10 years old. I still think hl1's gameplay is great. Tfc is like an arcade game.
I'm saying there's nothing wrong with HL1's hit detection but translated to multiplayer it's an entirely different code. TFC needed to allow for more players and since it's coded to be optimized for dialup modems it doesn't feel the same compared to newer shooters. I would shoot a rocket at the ground in front of someone and all of the sudden they would appear 2 meters past the rocket's target (I know when I make a terrible shot but that's not what's going on here haha). There's really nothing wrong with it, I'm just spoiled by the million newer shooters I've played since I last played TFC. i.e. in later versions of Counter-Strike the multiplayer coding was way more precise and the hit detection was perfect even on 200ms dialup.
No way I'm speaking out against HL1. But I think Q3 was the first game to have flawless online play because the engine was coding perfection.
i think in general the guesswork and luck involved in old shooters, where i would spray and pray and/or hope that my grenade results in somebody turning to a pile of gibs, is taken out of the equation in newer shooters that allow for more precision and a fine-tuned approach. the grenades stuttering in the air for example. the physics just aren't there in older shooters. Q3 was the first to get physics right IMHO. I'm not trying to knock TFC though. how it's put together makes the game what it is and it was one of my first intros to hardcore online shooters. i'm just flat-out addicted to TF2 right now.

I'm so used to playing tfc that nothing really bothers me. literally have been playing it since it came out.
Sniping in tfc is challenging but very fun

Aril, stop it. You need to get with the times and upgrade your PC. The good thing is I can build a PC for you that can scale with time. So really come the next time you upgrade you'll only need to upgrade the GPUs instead of the whole package.

I've played new games. But same thing goes with consoles. I'd rather be stuck in a room with weed, a bong, and NES rather than a room with naked women and xbox360. Maybe I've got issues
TF2 soldier and demoman updates this week! 7 new weapons, new maps and achievements. whichever class gets more kills against the other gets teh 4th weapon. i was playing last night - rocket and bomb spam everywhere. valve is kicking ass with all these updates.
I miss the old map packs. When dustbowl was realeased, tfc went downhill.
Do they have the well in tf2?

yeah they have remakes of most of the classic maps. 2fort, well, dustbowl. there's some sick game modes like king of the hill, arena, payload, but my fav is payload race.
i love the chaos that the flamethrower causes. sneak attacks brake up ranks like no other weapon and everyone panics. AND if you're playing with an archer sniper, you can light his arrows on fire!
it's also needed to light up the mighty joint.

so weird, I joined the gas chamber last week and they were playing a map my old clan mate made for scrimmages. Ah, the good ol days. 1999 was awesome.
TFC duh haven't i mention that before? when i made this thread it was the first time I had played TFC since oh, probably 2002. I used to skip school all the time just to play TFC and HLDM on WON back when my pentium III 600mhz with a voodoo3 was a decent computer.

This is roughly my pc which can play crysis on high and get a solid 50 fps constant. I also built my PC over 2 years ago for $1200. You can definitely get a good PC on a budget nowadays aril.
LOL, nothing wrong with old PC games but he's missing out. Crysis on a good machine is unreal.
And no two ways about it, TF2 is the most fun I've had with an online game.

I've played newer games on other computers buy ALWAYS find myself replaying classics. I started a new statcraft game. I'm also trying to beat hl1 in record time.
I've said this in every thread about pc games: play age of wonders or you're a pussy.
Action Half-life, Sven Coop, Wizard Wars, Deathmatch Classic, and a few others were incredible as well
i always ended up on day of defeat for whatever reason.

Seriously though:
TF2 is complete fail in my eyes. It's entertaining but does bot hold a candle to TFC. I was heavily involved in TFC in its prime, there's even an aril Easter Egg on a TFC map.
I refuse to let TF2 destroy it's predecessor. You'd be surprised, we've had quite a few TF2 people drop in and stay with TFC.
I really miss the old days when there were 1000s of maps.
Edit: I think I just have a general distaste for most things HL2 and/source related. CS versions pre 1.6 owned. CSS is boring. Nothing on source or modified source will EVER touch TFC. It is what it is.

- Reimroc (plays sometimes but only plays soldier and mostly camps ramp room/foyer in 2fort. play another class plz)
-blessed offal - extended offer to him, showed interest but now doesn't have a computer?
- ark, thought it was too jumpy and prefers TF2 because he's afraid of getting pwnt

- Slag, extending offer to him now but like ark, will probably prefer tf2 because it requires less skill.

I have never played TFC.... so I cannot comment on the issues you bring forth. What I do know is, i'm never bored and even at an intermediate to advanced FPS skill level it is not easy. It runs perfectly at maximum settings. The maps are varied and new, excellent ones are added all the time. Game and classes are PERFECTLY balanced. Developers are still updating it to this day. I have a busy lifestyle and feel like with TF2, I can get in and get out and bust my gaming nut.... Ark and I play TF2 all the time.

yea i saw their post on the steam pagea couple weeks ago. i first thought it was an april fools thing but no. but eh i'm not too worried. all of the tryhard players from the chamber now play on the TWISTED dustbowl server which is now dustbowl or vote.
there were some horrible ones but there were also some real classics. turkeyburgers, mooncheese, etc. i really like the conc maps. they are fucking challenging. there's a conc server left called "church of conc" that plays nothing but conc maps. pretty fun

You can cause one when you have 2000 beans/mangoes/whatever. You can also buy beer and weed. Server has awesome MODs, like the arrow with the teleporter and the snow/grass/leaves
Had to do a shit ton of driver uninstalls/installs, but I got it working! So pumped...just got pwnt on 2fort, but whatever.
It's hilarious that I spent so much money trying to get my old comp to run at max settings when this first came out, and now my shitbox laptop does it no problem.
I'm going to burninate the countryside and be a pyro. It's that weird class that I absolutely suck at and
get completely owned by everyone else using it.
Also, I'm pretty sure the only times I've bever been in the basement was as a spy running around a dropping spikes. You will have to learn me about basement defense, Obi Wan.
