INSECT WARFARE guitarist Beau Beasley speaks to Diabolical Conquest; Video Available

Diabolical Conquest Webzine recently conducted an interview with Beau Beasley, Guitarist in US Grindcore band Insect Warfare. In the interview Beau discusses Insect Warfare's European tour, visiting Grindcore's spiritual home, the 'World Extermination' LP, his favourite Earache and Grindcore releases, among other topics.

A video containing excerpts from the interview, along with a report of their show in Birmingham - England, and the interview in full can be viewed here.

Diabolical Conquest: With this tour, what came first, the 'World Extermination' re-release, the tour, or the Earache deal, what drove why you're here?

Insect Warfare: "The re-issue came first, and there was never any idea of touring, I mean Digby brought it up, and we were like "no, no tour we're broken up, no touring", they said "I'm cool with that, I'm very cool", and then it was kinda like later on I was like "let's go to Europe, see what happens" and he was like "oh you'll want to do it", alright, so we fucking did it, and we're here now, and London was so fucking good, I mean fuck it, like I mentioned, the best."

Diabolical Conquest: I saw, for the first time, the Earache re-issue [of 'World Extermination'] - on the front they've got the label saying "Best Grindcore album since F.E.T.O!". What do you feel about that?

Insect Warfare: "I feel like an asshole man. That's super embarrassing, I mean that's awesome, but I feel very embarrassed about it, cos I mean there're so many great records out there that pummel our record, that're so much better, that could easily be that [the best since F.E.T.O], y'know, like all the Unseen Terror releases, but like, yeah that's an honour, to have him say something like that makes me feel great, but I feel like an asshole at the same time, there's such high expectations for something which I think is just y'know, a record we recorded in our bedroom."

Diabolical Conquest: If you could conjure up a quick list [of your favourite Grindcore records], what would you choose?

Insect Warfare: "From Enslavement to Obliteration by Napalm Death, or The Peel Sessions by Napalm Death, either one of those I'll put as my number 1. After that it's a free for all, y'know, Terrorizer - World Downfall, Assuck - Misery Index, Discordance Axis - Johou or Ulterior, Excruciating Terror - Divided we Fall, I mean there's just so many man, like Phobia - Means of Existence. I grew up through the 90s, I mean Napalm Death is the kings, y'know, all the Sore Throat records were great, the first Anal Cunt 7"s, I mean there's just so much good shit, Warsore, Arse Destroyer. Actually Arse Destroyer should be tops - Arse Destroyer - Teen Ass Revolt; amazing record, should be probably at the number 2 spot for me."

Diabolical Conquest: What is coming of Insect Warfare when this tour ends?

Insect Warfare: "That's it, we're done. Going home, resuming our normal lives. I'm a bartender, I go back to being a bartender and not thinking about Grindcore - we're done."

"There's no doubt we're 100% broken up, all that stuff that came out like the Agoraphobic Nosebleed split, the 12", and some other stuff, that stuff's all been recorded since we were active, it just now came out. Cos our drummer Dobber, had a recording studio in his house we were always recording, so we have enough recordings to last us for another year probably, stuff that people haven't heard, but I think we're about to get to the very end of that, so there's not going to be any more releases after this, but yeah there's all this posthumous stuff. This tour kinda happened though, but hey we're broken up."

Originally released by US label 625 Records in 2007, Insect Warfare's latter day Grindcore classic 'World Extermination' saw a re-issue through Earache Records earlier this year. The UK label declaring 'World Extermination' as the "Best Grindcore album since F.E.T.O" [Napalm Death's 1988 album, >From Enslavement to Obliteration].

this band should've gotten some sort of "Most Improved" award, because when they first started out, they were awful and got infinitely better as time went on

too bad they broke up, would've been cool to see them keep on improving
