New site? Maybe some day.

Ok so novice question from someone who rarely bets on sports. How do you gets the odds of winning (example 1:15 or whatever) from the point spread and the money line?
|
|
i too have wondered this.

wheres rusty or xmikex when you need them. |
|
For the sake of my finances and my life, I don't gamble. So I wouldn't know.
Where's Bill Simmons when you need him? |

Where's Bill Simmons when you need him? |
Probably talking to his dad on the phone and then writing an exaggerated version of it tomorrow. |

I am pretty sure the odds come from Vegas. F'realz.
They set the standard and then the bookies pick up on it from there.

Simmons is watching desperate housewives and trying to equate it to Barry Switzer somehow. |
|
remember when all that big papi roid stuff was going down, simmons wrote an article saying how he thought his numbers were down because he has been lying about his age? I think he claimed to think ortiz was 38 years old. not sure why he didn't get slammed for that claim |
|
so nobody here knows how to get the odds? |
|
google or ask jeeves "how does las vegas get the odds of sports betting"
wait, is Dr. Jeeves still alive? |

It is, but it is just ask.com now. Jeeves was sacked. |
|
i have googled for it. all i get is explanations of what you win based on the spread and money line. what i'm trying to find is the odds of either team winning(1 to 5 or 10 to 1 etc etc) |
|
Jeeves was never a doctor. He was a dumbass butler. |
|
I don't know how to find this info on what the spreads/odds are except for in a newspaper, because I don't gamble either
but here's an explanation of spreads: the spread is set for football at the beginning of the week by the Vegas bookmakers then goes up or down depending on how many people bet for one team or the other
for example, say the Pats are playing the Jags, and at the beginning of the week the spread is set to the Pats being favored by 5....so if more people bet the Pats, the spread will go up to like 6, 7, 8, whatever....and vice versa, if more people bet the Jags, the spread will go down
and if you bet at one spread, your bet is locked in at that spread no matter if the spread changes |

You're judging him based off of his attire? The dude knew everything. He was Dr. Jeeves. |
