Just curious now that it's out. I haven't heard it yet.
I remember hearing the single and thinking it was okay.. but so far the album is getting good reviews.

Jerry sounds so much like Layne, it's gonna rule.

Much like the old stuff, Jerry writes most of the material on this album, so it sounds like Alice in Chains.

Vocally, Duvall does not sound a thing like Layne, which I like because I would rather have a vocalist who has his own voice rather than one who tries to sound like Layne. Those classic vocal harmonies are all over this album, and they sound great. Great album overall.

i think i'm going to buy this today. what i just read is not what i expected.

How are the riffs? Is it dark like their earlier albums? I'm intrigued.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEnemaBradNess at Oct 2,2009 12:08pm
it's very good. Acid Bubble has one of the best riffs Jerry has ever written. I'd say this is on par with Dirt, and I LOVE that album.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEnemaBradness at Oct 2,2009 9:40pm
spun this start to finish 4-5 times tonight. Didn't take long to grow on me. Would love to see them when they come around

i'm officially obsessed with this record. cannot say enough good things about it. i was really skeptical upon first hearing that radio version of A Looking in View but the album version is 1000x better. cant wait to see these songs performed live.

i love this album. I'm wearing my AIC shirt today because of how awesome the album is. i wouldn't say it's as good as dirt, but i don't think they could top dirt even if layne staley was still alive. this is a really good record. the title track is my favorite.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEnemaBradNess at Oct 5,2009 12:44pm
after many listens, i think track 3 "last of my kind" is pretty weak compared to the rest of the album. A looking in View is SO good.
I hope they tour with a tolerable band, please NO Godsmack/Niggerback/Creed co headlining bullshit.

because of new AIC and new revocation, it has been impossible for me to get more than halfway through the first track on the new immortal.

toggletoggle post by LPCustom at Oct 5,2009 5:24pm
Newbs sent out their E-Mail and it's gonna be $10 rather than $9 if you want to plan accordingly I guess...? Yeah - I'm bored.

i want to know what happened to the DVD that was filmed @ the Lupos show i went to last year. there was 5 or 6 cameras on those crane things and AIC played for nearly 3 hours (including a full acoustic set) fuckin ruled.

toggletoggle post by ALICE IN CRAP at Oct 7,2009 2:30pm
not sure why u guys like this band so much. been a pop bands since 90. sucks. this album sucks. jerry is fat, balding and dyes his hair blonde. and the new singer looks like lenny cravits. every song sounds the same on the new album, and it also has an emo cover of a heart. i mean if u really sit down and think about it this band sucks and only got popular because they sing about drugs

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Oct 7,2009 2:32pm
I retract my previous liking for this album due to many valid points by this highly respected musical critic.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 7,2009 2:33pm
Haven't listened yet. But Sean Kinney is a phenomenal drummer. He could play on a polka album and I'd give it an honest listen.

a solid comeback release. I'd give it 92/100 - definitely worthy of top 10 of 2009

The whole concept is kind of strange though. scanning someone's diaries and making a book out of it for profit. that's like if someone took yuqi hu's private conversations and exposed thos... oh, wait.

My review after a few months of listening

1. "All Secrets Known" AWESOME
2. "Check My Brain" REALLY GOOD
3. "Last of My Kind" LAME
4. "Your Decision" REALLY GOOD
5. "A Looking in View" GOOD
6. "When the Sun Rose Again" AWESOME
7. "Acid Bubble" INCREDIBLE
8. "Lesson Learned" GOOD
9. "Take Her Out" GOOD
10. "Private Hell" AMAZING
11. "Black Gives Way to Blue" AMAZING

This entire Cd is just amazing. I got it the day it was released and I still listen to it every damn day that goes by on the MP3 player at work. The harmonies and Jerry's playing is just great. It's dark, super depressing and is easily as good as the very early stuff they wrote. Moody as all hell. Jerry has always been AIC as far as writing...so in my eyes AIC still lives. Jerry is still a God!

toggletoggle post by The_Rooster  at Jan 21,2010 9:59am
I dig it. I think it's a good come back record that doesn't reek of the usual money-making motives, or "can't let go" attitude. I have a feeling that their next one will be significantly better (if there is a next one).

The songs, for the most part, are great. "Last of My Kind" is the weakest for sure. "Private Hell", "When the Sun Rose Again", and "All Secrets Known" are my favorites. "Acid Bubble" is so fucking filthy and sludgy... Love it. In general, I dig how slow and grimey everything sounds.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Duvall's vocals on their own, but blended with Jerry's, I think he does a good job of doing the AIC harmony sound. It's actually pretty scary how much it sounds like the old stuff at times. I was happy to find out that Cantrell does the majority of the lead vocals though. Great hearing his guitar sound again as well. He's probably my favorite modern rock guitarist (I certainly rip off his soloing style more than any other).

All in all, a very sincere effort, and that's coming from someone who really didn't want to like it, as I'm a HUGE Layne Staley fan. A pleasant surprise.

I'm somewhat considering going, but I don't know. How often does AiC tour, does anyone here know? If they tour every year or so, then I may just wait for their next independent tour since I imagine tickets will be about the same price either way.

my big sister took me to Lotfullalozahs in 94 and I saw the real AiC along with RATM, Porno for Pyros and tons of other awesome grunge bands of the day...

I also saw Jerry Cantrell in like 2001 and he had some Lenny Kravitz lookalike going Laynes parts and he sounded perfect. great show cause he did mostly AiC songs...

I'd consider going to see the show at the Comcast Center but I want to go see Sabbath too and I doubt I could manage both.

Sabbath WITH AiC would be fucking awesome.

Dude, it's Lawnforloozers. Was that the one at Quonset Point? If so, I was there. I remember that Layne just sat on a stool for their whole set, but still got the job done and they sounded great. I don't remember much else about that show -- the mid-90s were a bit hazy for me.
