Because age has to do with liking (shitty) electronic music? I just don't get this kind of music. There's no feel. If I'm in the mood for electronic music, I'll just throw on some BoC, or Kraftwerk, or Bibio, or Helios or all the other electronic artists that do it better. Just sayin'
Given, I haven't listened to that particular song. I'm at work and can't but I had a friend that got hardcore into Aphex Twin and would show me stuff all the time and I hated all of it.

Boards of Canada = lol
Listen to Autechre or Donnacha Costello and then talk to us about electronic music. I never understood the "getting it" argument. You either like something or you don't.
Can I ask, what is there to get?
And LOL at thinking BoC is a shining example of electronic music. The only decent album was Music has the right to children. So yes, LOL.
What I don't get is what people see in it? Is it omg that's so technical, omg this makes me feel so happy or sad, omg check out the groove there, etc etc
Any band that calls themselves electronic and does not use all analog synths is just a douchey mcdouchedouchepants
Avril 14th, The song that Nick originally posted is solo piano...

Technical? Haha, I judge electronic music based off of mood and feeling. It transports me to another world, so that's what I get out electronic & ambient music.

Well Aphex Twin DOES do that you know...In fact most of his early works were created that way. This kinda shows just how clueless you are about the whole subject. Pretty much every aphex twin album is completely different so there is a good chance you might like at least one of them. We're talking about one of the most prolific electronic artists who has experimented with just about every genre of electronic from acid house to ambient..
Autechre is probably my favorite artist of this genre though. Seeing them live at the middle east last year was amazing. Aphex and all his other side projects are a close second.

Wow, ignorance is just seeping onto my computer screen. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about, so why contribute unless it's funny or relevant? At least have an educated criticism and not the retarded drivel that is making my fingers type this post.

Damn, Frank, you were at that Autechre gig too? Didn't see you. Of course, I was also on drugs.
I hear that band The Crystal Method is pretty slammin.....

Get busy, Child. I guess I didn't know.

Only Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy are real.

I was at that autechre gig with Arkturous. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Aphex's best album is "I care because you do" with the Hangable Auto Bulb series and SAW 2 in close succession.

"Melodies From Mars" is up there.

Ok, here are some of my 2 cents, or at least a half of a cent.
Keep in mind I didn't really read this thread but LOLed at what I saw.
You think metal has a bunch of sub-genres? Look at electronic music. In fact, I think the history of electronic music may even be more fascinating than the history of metal. Why? Because it's gone in so many different directions and has been all over the musical spectrum - and then back again.
What REALLY irks me is people that listen only to Trance, and then claim to be huge fans of electronic music.
Electronic music usually relates to the technology at the time, and can also be extremely trendy. We all remember when Trance was hugely popular and a bunch of tools thought they were so cool for listening to "techno."
Electronic music, like metal, is a vast universe of sounds and musicians, but people only really listen to the tip of the iceberg with it.. unless they're real fans.
To mock or underestimate Aphex Twin's achievements and accomplishments within modern electronic music is intolerable. I'll leave this thread shaking my head in disappointment, Martins.
Woah I got a lot of hate lawl. I wasn't saying Aphex Twin didn't use analog synths... I wouldn't even know if he had haha. Everyone needs to calm down and I promise never to be ignorant again. jesus fuck
I disagree with the above statements by aril and C.Dead. I don't like reason... but Fruity Loops is the easiest sequencer to use, hands down. Reason is limiting in that it forces you to use the synths provided with the software... Fruity Loops allows VST and DXi plugins. Fruity is not a cheat to use vs. any other software (Cubase, Logic, etc).... and allows great functionality in conjunction with hardware midi devices and synths. It's a good tool for what it does.

I was always opposed to programs like these. Just makes shit way simple and takes out the fun for me. Fuck, I never even recorded digitally with analog sequencers/drum/bass/loop/whathaveyou machines. I am not one of those analog elitists either (though I do prefer it), I am just broke and analog is always the cheaper, easier way to go. Thats just my two gay cents.

I'm pretty much on the same page as C.dEad .
It always felt like the computer/sequencers did all the work.
Making electronic music to me was always fun because I got to experiment with sounds, samples, and all that jazz. I don't like when the software does all that crap for you.
