Is this some hardcore or straight edge thing? so, if i was "xhandinjuryx"
what does that mean? -that im a proud straight edged hardcore/metalcore dude? I have nothing aganist with being straight edge, no substances = good for you, just dont get in my face about it.
and how about "tough guy hardcore". Is that like blood for blood?
And how about "emo", theres emo hardcore , emo punk...... i dont understand. im a metalhead, i like brutal deathmetal and some 80's thrash(testament, overkill, kreator, etc.) are these terms made up by "scenesters"?
Someone clue me in to these stupid "label" tags.

xxx = straight edge.
x's around your name usually means you like hardcore I guess...
but might not mean you are s.e.
it might just mean that aaron was taken and you just put x's around it to get a name that isn't taken.
xaaronx

XnameX originally meant that you were straight edge.... for some reason people who are not straightedge put x's around their name too.

and dude, just because someone has x's around their screen name doesn't mean they are forcing straight edge upon you. Straight edge kids go to shows and are around people smoking, those people dont' give a shit...there are beer/ciggarette ads everywhere you look... so who's getting shit forced in their face? I don't think I've seen any straight edge advertisements on tv, or in magazines.

the smoking inside was the worst part of the sick as sin fest.
I can't wait for that ban to get nationwide.

I NEVER SAID THEY ARE. I was refering to the straight edge kids that go around acting like tough guys, dissing drug users. Unless you never been to a show and seen them in action(ala running there mouth- and no i am not saying that they all do this, i remeber toking right next to a dude with a huge x on his hand, and he didnt walk away,we had a coversation the whole time.)

Yeah, im not straight edge, but i quit smoking pot and people try to get me to smoke about 3 times a day. i dont try to get them to NOT smoke.

I don't care what people do, but when a few people are smoking inside and it's ruining it for other people then they should have to step outside for the couple of minutes it takes to smoke.

Complaining about second hand smoke is so "not metal", sheesh! But honestly, I'll be the first to admit (even as a smoker) that second hand smoke is worse than actually smoking! I quit for a little while and I just couldn't take all the second hand smoke at my practices and at bars and shit which ultimately led to me starting up again. As a smoker though I can say that I have mad respect for non-smokers and am always considerate to them!

smoking is the biggest waste of money. the palladium is one big cloud of smoke even with their 'no smoking' policy. And even with like 20-30 people outside smoking in between bands, their are STILL tons inside.

i love those commercials out there that make it look like you'll get pregnant or run your little brother over with a car if you are out getting stoned. those ads are hilarious. they totally miss the point. if i smoked pot alot, i'd watch those things high and laugh my ass off even more.

but the SxE kids will definately get in your face and probably get 5 of their friends at their back to take shots at you in the pitt

Yeah we'll definetly get in your face(sarcasm). No one enjoys and appreciates disgusting second hand smoke being blown in our air supply. Espcially at clubs where there's a no smoking policy, but people just light up anyway because they're too weak to resist their self inflicted temptations of poisoning themselves and others. You really suck if you think that just because you're a metalhead, you'll get targeted at a show. Maybe if some people didn't act like a cynical asshole smoking their fags all night people(not just edge kids) would respect them a bit more.

Dude, I was kidding about not being metal. Didn't I say that second hand smoke sucks too!?

And to RA, the reason I started smoking when I was younger was because it was a cheap fast buzz in between classes in high school, not cause I was trying to look cool. Then I got a job where the majority of my bosses smoked and by smoking butts with them they gave me better jobs to do. Eventually I was hooked.

Hahahaha

Oh and Abbath, drinking is worse than smoking. It is not like smoker's don't know they are hurting themselves anyway. The thing is, drinking causes a lot of shitty problems to people around alcoholics. Some people can get drunk off their ass, and just sit there and have no problems really (my cousin can drive perfectly straight when he is smashed, and I know that firsthand, sadly), but other people get shitfaced and beat the shit out of their families and drive around getting into accidents all over the place. Horrible stuff happens.

By the way, I also prefer drinking over smoking

The X originated back in the day when clubs would put X's on kids hands who were underaged, or just weren't drinking. Eventually, when the straightedge movement took off, kids started just putting their x's on themselves.

First and foremost, Bane sucks, and so do a ton of other "straightegde" bands. But let me tell you a story...
I once went to a show with nothing but straightedge bands: In My Eyes, Mouthpeice, Bane, 10 Yard Fight, and i don't know who else. There were a couple hundred straightedge kids packed into a small american leigon. Everyone had a fun time, and then on the way out in the doorway was some guy with a 6 pack in one hand, and an open beer in the other enjoynig a drink.

Now if everything you metal nerdarrios say is true then this guys body would have been scattered all over Haverhill. But it wasn't. Anyone who even noticed it had a good spirited laugh over it, and that was the most reaction it got.

Putting X's in front of your name was the thing to do years ago. Thats when I started doing it. Because I've actually been around long enough not to have to publically embarass myself by asking "DoOoD was with da X's n shit? Thats like duM an stuff"

Ya there are alot of straightegde kids who are way too uptight, and pretend to care way too hard. And you know what....these are usually the kids who end up breaking edge. I wince every time i hear someone preaching about straightedge because experience shows me that the ones who yell the loudest, the ones that antagonize people the most, the ones who treat it like they have something to prove are usually the ones a year from now that you see standing outside a show smoking clove cigarettes with some huge obnoxious XXX tattoo on their legs.

In conclusion, straightedge kids are just like everyone else, most of them suck. But that doesn't excuse ignorance about it. If you wanted to know something about straightedge go look it up. Putting something down that you know nothing about is just as ignorant as someone shoving their fake beliefs in your face.

tough guy hardcore = bulldoze, skarhead, merauder, out to win, fury of five etc. Not to be confused with Throwdown, 18 Visions and everything dumb that was ever based off of that. Tough guy hardcore was about guys who could actually put people in the hospital making music.

Not to be confused with the present day version of kids even smaller than me running around in girls pants, and army hats trying to act hard and write riffs that Earth Crisis did 10 years ago.

Emo = Just dumb. Emo, realistically, has nothing to do with hardcore. In the very late 90's and early 2000's this whole idea that hardcore should be tough by sensitive came out through metalcore. Bands started putting melodic parts, and clean parts, and clean vocals into songs to make them appear more diverse (and to impress girls). Bands like Poison the Well made "emocore" a reality and at the time everyone loved it. The reprecussions of it however, were that hardcore was doomed to be stuck with this association to emo. Everyone thought that they had some sort of obligation to listen to a certain quota of emo. As a result, emo kids began to think that they had some sort of right to hardcore. Then they got beat up alot at shows and complained about it on places like lambgoat, returntothepit, and the automata message board.
