well, I'm on the way home... early..
thanks to the cops and the club and shitty things that went down that made the show end early.
pictures will be up in a little while.
like an hour.

BULLSHIT...once again i get screwed out of seeing dying fetus

toggletoggle post by Magg0t at Mar 22,2004 1:10am
I heard the club wasnt making enough money as the night went on. Anyone know the reason why it closed early?
I talked with Dying Fetus shortly after they broke the news. They said they may be coming back up around here relatively soon. So you get another chance todayistheday

toggletoggle post by todayistheday at Mar 22,2004 1:11am
i seriously have the worst luck with them......drove to springfield to find out they canceled, drove to providence and car broke down and now club gets shutdown right before them...........still havent seen them live

toggletoggle post by Terence   at Mar 22,2004 1:16am
That sucks so bad! No wonder why Malignancy's set was cut 20 minutes.

toggletoggle post by JonahBloodbath   at Mar 22,2004 1:49am
I left wicked early due to being tired of shitty metal/core

what happened exactly?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 22,2004 1:54am
lots of rumors...
the thing I heard while walking out was that the "VIP" room on the second stage got trashed and the club wanted $400 extra so when they didnt get it, they called the cops. but that's me just eves dropping while walking.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Mar 22,2004 2:00am
well i talked to 2 of the bartenders and they said it was not them...they have to stay until 2am anyhow, they said "someone"i.e. a band or patrons may have ruined/damaged something...and the cops were called and that = to end of show...that was the official word..i heard some unofficial info, but i'm not posting that

and i talked to dying fetus too, mostly sean/shawn they are coming back soon...sucked about the show ending early..as they say 1 person ruining it for the bunch.
sucks

toggletoggle post by JonahBloodbath   at Mar 22,2004 2:07am
did burnt by the sun play and how were they?

toggletoggle post by theundergroundscene   at Mar 22,2004 2:08am
I think I was in the VIP room when it was "trashed," but I am not sure. The room was a mess, yes, but trashed? No. That implies that things were broken and stuff and that wasn't the case. There was just food thrown everywhere and if you expect $400 extra for that crap you are retarded.

Now I don't know what happened after I left the room, so it very well could have been "trashed" after that, but seriously, you put a bunch of bands together, give them a lot of alcohol and what do you expect?

All in all though, I had a pretty good time today. It didn't seem as hectic as other fests. Sure, I had to run around to get pictures, but I still had tons of extra time to sit down and chill out and talk to people. It's a shame the night had to end the way it did though, but it's also a shame that attendence was so bad...

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Mar 22,2004 2:15am
no jonah..they didn't get to play..neither did dying fetus, beyond the embrace and freya

toggletoggle post by theundergroundscene   at Mar 22,2004 2:20am
I don't even think Freya was there...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 22,2004 2:24am

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Mar 22,2004 2:33am

toggletoggle post by JonahBloodbath   at Mar 22,2004 2:40am

was the turn out that bad? sure a lot of the people were bands, but it seemed a decent crowd

third stage
kobalt: didn't sound as nu-metal as I was told to expect. sort of like seputlura-ish.. fear factory-ish old trauma concept stuff.

malignancy: they talked a lot 'bout 'gina's. sounded sick.

metal militia: you guys, though I saw them at milwaukee metal fest 2002. they were thrash metal.

a-myg-dala: the same girl singer as the suffering. she gave a speech about fuck fashion and fuck beauty.. hard to take that from someone with dreds as pricey as my camera. they sounded better than the suffering.

wormdr1v3: no drummer, just a drum machine. I had an interesting convo comparing it to the illustrious ministry.

scorch: 3 drummers? all drumming the same thing? why? isn't that was slipknot does? I always sware I saw them under a different name at miluakee metal fest 2002

goratory: sounded pretty good, though the guitar could have been mic'd better. lots of bro's moshing it up.

a terrible night for a curse: sounded much heavier than the last times I've seen them. I liked them a lot better. they had at least one new member.

the suffering: girl singer. rumor has it she made her boots from a large eskimo family.

summit: totally thrash metal. ex in dire need. I got yelled at for mashing dance with my camera

Raising Kubrick, Aganihm, A-Myg-Dala, Malignancy Worm Drive, and Summit were the only good bands I saw. That doesn't mean there were not other good bands, because I basically stayed upstairs at the main stage. I didn't even go down the street at all.

Ryan McCracken was there as well, and made his way around more then I did, so someone should ask him what happened. I left early.

the guitarist from burn in silence went to high school with me. i havnt seen him in maybe 4 years or something crazy. and his friend came dino, who was the first kid to ever play death metal for me, he showed up and let me listen to none so vile when i was a freshman in high school, that kid was really good at drums. neither of them recognized me with my long hair, it was really hilarious.

my pics will be up tonight!

I wasn't running around like the rev though, i stayed at the main stage the most so I didn't snap every band. I got a cool "The Network" shirt, a "jagermeister" tank top which i had to put on right away in order for me to get it so there was no flashing or wet tank tops involved. I did end up getting flashed myself though.

REALLY does suck about not being able to see the headliners though at least i had a really cool convo with Sean from Dying Fetus...he was gonna let me do some promo shots too =(

Highlites,

Summit - good to see these dudes for the first time. I like it, good versitility all around, vocals were somewhat loud though. looking forward to more music!
Aganihm - this band continues to impress me. A harsher more techinal sorta disruptish grinding assault.
Raising Kubrick - played great, an awesome set! couldn't hear much bass or vocals but sarah is way better than the dread locked broad.
Goratory - good times good times. too bad the black bouncers stood in the "pit" they were in the way and I felt scared after I patted one their titties unintentionally. I like the new one, AIDS. They shoulda played in A-Myg-Dala's spot.
Burn In Silence - Max rules.
Metal Militia - Good to see some thrash on this bill. Straight out of 83 and Florida as well. It was a shame they went on in front of no one.
Malignancy - i'd be a loser if I said this shit didn't kick ass. it's bullshit they only played for 20 minutes. they need to come back and play for 2 hours for the whole 20 death metal kids that care about this shit. good sound, great set.

security was a bummer with the no moshing policy. goratory's room mate got thrown out for drinking so they had to leave early, it made me sad, pass it on.

hey Reverend, this is Otto from Wormdr1v3, and Bluntface Records. I wanted to say thanks for takeing those cool pics of us, and getting us some press. Even though our set was a f***ing train wreck it made it totally worth it to see my goofy ass flipen' off the camera. I remember that moment specifically, so that's very cool it made the site. Thanks man

anyways, back to SAS, Megan said her (Trauma concept ???) bass player's bass had been stolen. Does anyone know if they found it? I wonder if that had anything to do with the situation?

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Mar 22,2004 5:54pm
Here's all my cents about the show:

Props to Sin Promotions for taking on such an event, but in my opinion it should have been done on a Friday and Saturday in just 1 venue. Even if it was 2 stages like the Shamrock, more money would have been made, all bands would have been playing for more people, it would have been a shitload more convenient for everyone, patrons and bands alike, and all the bands would have been able to play. But that's just me, so hey...whatever floats your boat right?

Anywho, onto the bands:

I came mainly for In Dire Need, Cannae, Remembering Never, Aganihm, Burn In Silence, BBTS, Freya and Dying Fetus. Burn in Silence was by far my favorite act of the night; great friends and a great band as always, got to sing along and even got a 'shoutout', haha. I hope to see them go places.

Aganihm have some meat on their bones, especially for just one guitarist; i hear a lot of pig destroyer and discorance axis in their style, very good.

I only got to catch one In Dire Need song, but it was satanic and brutal as always.

First time i got to see Summit; glad to see Dan Lozzi is still at it. My only complaint was that the guitar was too quiet.

Remembering Never was great; I found that most of the 'preaching' was reasonable, except the whole Jagermeister brainwashing shit. It's called advertising; that means that aaalll those kids wearing remembering never shirts at the show were brainwashing others to listen to RN. Come to think of it, one of my close friends actually got trashed off of Jager with the drummer of RN...interesting.

Raising Kubrick was awesome; i had only heard a few mp3's before the show, and i was impressed. Great range of styles, heavy and catchy as hell. and that girl has some pipes.

Even though Cannae were completely annihilated, pissed, and shutdown early, it was one of the best performances they've ever given. After sitting around for 12 hours just to play in front of 20 kids, they were pretty damn pissed off...and getting to play only 2 or 3 songs made it worse. there were falling all over the place but didn't mess up at all...that's professionalism, haha.

Goratory was sick as well. I like "Shit Fucker", haha.

At the moment, no other significant moments stand out, so i'm done talking. Enjoy the novel, hah

second stage
cannae - they were completely trashed and falling all over the place. then the big bouncer guy said it's over the cops where shutting it down. but then after some noise was brought about the matter, the boys were let play 2 songs. at the beginning there was no mic and no right guitar, but after that was sorted out, they played damn good and it was fun considering the bass player was on his back most of the set. I had figured maybe they were getting shut down cause they were so drunk? but no.. to my surprise upon getting to the main stage, I found that place almost cleared out.

spearing jocosta - sounded awesome. when I got in there, they were just playing around and laying/sitting so I joined them on stage to sit down and shoot pictures. but then they jumped up. these guys are pros and played amazingly for the few people there.

eradicate - they had a song about john holms. after the remembering never BS, there weren't that many people at this stage.

our dying moment - the drummer was so fucking jacked up... I thought it was the hulk up there. even if their band sucked, I could say that or my spleen would get ripped out through my brains. I sent some people over just to be amazed. anyhow, the band was pretty good, sounded like really old shadows fall.

remembering never - bass player for on broken wings was filling in for them. they had a full set this time, compared to last thursday at club marque. tons of time to dance, right? wrong... the in dire need dance squad was forced to stop the mosh. everyone dance happy now! I guess one of the bouncers got on the stage.

diatribal revenge - they sounded just like they did last time I heard them at the bomb shelter. the bassplayer broke something as you can tell from that one picture.

scar culture - sounded great. the new singers right in there. they hve some big show coming up with shadows fall in long island... bit too long of a drive for me.

december aeternalis - the bassist was on the phone with his girlfriend like the whole fest... even during their set. the music was pretty crazy.

grail - lots and lots and lots of sound checking. seeing as the other stages go no sound checking at all, this was odd. hardcore with some death metal backups. reminded me a little of scars of tomorrow.

year of confession - ex-skycuttingstars bassist, I guess. I didn't recognize him. tuff hardcore with some cleaner vocals.

main stage
all that remains - they played all tracks off their new cd.

on broken wings - similar to the last show (club marque) the old singer (jonathan) same a few songs and the fill-in vocalist (eric) did some songs. there was no rap, but eric's vocals sounded so much better this time. jonathan gave a should out to in dire need, remembering never, fassw, the underground scene and rttp. very cool and I appreciate the support.

trauma concept - was their bass or bassplayer stolen? (at the time of this review, they found that bass.) their crowd was decent size. I think raising kubrick and them were tied.

held under - they sounded a lot more like shadows fall this time around

from a second story window - guy (the red chord) stepped in and sang with them for a few songs. then temp singer sounded really good on this stage. I guess it was the other club's acustics.

burn in silence - they sounded better than at the fat cat. the crowd responded killer to them too.

deadbydawn - ex light is the language. if you are waiting for a rebirth, they sounded a lot different. the vocals where old BHBS and there were a few break downs and groovey riffs.

raising kubrick - peter didn't have the mega drums set up

(his set)
they had probably the biggest crowd of the weekend. sounded great too.

aganihm - fun set. no 30-minute set up for the drums either. they had the pre-set up set, missing the floor tom too. sounded good through

in dire need - the vocals needed to be raised a lot more than they were. I was down stairs and knew right away it was them.

the network - the vocals were really low for them. they also weren't using the right drum set and had no samples. still awesome, though not as crazy/axe breaking as the friday show.

Thank you to everyone who came all the way from NY to see us, and thank you to all who wound up in DTS as we went on.

We here at Year of Confession had a ton of fun the whole weekend and were really glad to be apart of it all. Altough the night ended badly, the entire weekend was one hell of a trip.

Thanks again to everyone who came down to the entire fest, it was a blast!!

main stage
all that remains - they played all tracks off their new cd.

on broken wings - similar to the last show (club marque) the old singer (jonathan) same a few songs and the fill-in vocalist (eric) did some songs. there was no rap, but eric's vocals sounded so much better this time. jonathan gave a should out to in dire need, remembering never, fassw, the underground scene and rttp. very cool and I appreciate the support.

trauma concept - was their bass or bassplayer stolen?

I was down stairs and knew right away it was them.

the network - the vocals were really low for them. they also weren't using the right drum set and had no samples. still awesome, though not as crazy/axe breaking as the friday show.

firstly, thank you to aaron and carina for the pictures. they are greatly appeciated and came out awesome.

second, thank you to everyone that came out to that show. there were a bunch of really awful bands there, and the people running the show were complete asses. i almost didn't get let in myself due to assholes at the door. anyways, it means a lot when kids dance, come out, give good reviews, or even come up to us after we play and say they liked it (especially when it's dave witte.) thanks guys.

bands i really liked that night.

the network, goratory, raising kubrick.

i didn't see many others that were worth mentioning.

oh yeah, the reason why i didn't take a half our with my drumset was becasue i thought shit was backlined, so i didn't unload my kit at all. when i realized that i could've used my kit, it was too late and i had to use that shitty pearl w/o the floor tom because i didn't have the hardware to hook it up (damn you pearl!) i actually had to adjust the heights of the toms and shit, and tune, and set up my pedal (which kept breaking mid set) but i managed to get the thing up quick (with kyle's help) and play relatively well.

wow, finally a rumor that is based upon truth. The sad part is I would've paid it just so the show wouldn't have gotten shut down even though it was blatant extortion, but the owner did not even give me time to discuss it with him. As soon as I questioned him on our previous agreement he screamed "it's done!" and ran inside to shut things down.... upon chasing him through the door in attempt to fix the situation, i was stopped by a cop saying that I was no longer allowed in the club. They wouldn't even let me get my stuff out of the rooms. I tried going there with a police escourt last night but was again turned away from attaining my belongings. This thing's going to be a mess. Currently trying to find a lawyer who will take the case, as it is a relatively small one (damages between $3k-5k)..

I promise I will do everything I can to make a Fetus/BBTS show to make it up to the fans as soon as possible, and the couple locals who got screwed by the club's actions in the 2nd stage area are getting on the next fest without having to sell tickets. I'll keep everyone updated.

If anyoe hears any info about the theft, contact me at spearingjocasta@hotmail.com

other than that, we had fun, enjoyed Cannae, they ruled... the show shutting down early sucked, I wanted to kick the shit out of the fat ass bouncer who threw the kid head first into the mirrors in the foyer of the second stage....but I had a 6 hour drive home! haha. any way, it was all good fun

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Mar 24,2004 4:12pm
well, maybe its me...but, i think that the club owner would not so easily shut down the venues if he felt that he was going to bringing in any additioanl funds...especially cause headliners had yet to go on and it was a guaranteed hour or two more that he had to bring in some extra cash. something isnt adding up and i still dont think the whole story is being told.
regardless, i had a lot of fun and i want to say that my highlights were: year of confession, cannae, a-myg-dala, on broken wings and scar culture. i just dont think that i will ever be attending another fest in that area again.

When you have a room contracted until 2 am it doesn't matter what the bar sales are, I don't think you're getting the legality of what happenned here. He only made about $942 at DTS which is what set him off... funny how he thought kicking everyone out of that room early on and ending the show during the begginning of peak drinking hours would help that situation. It really irks me on how many know-it-alls and insinuations are being made by people who were not there when this all went down in front of the club.

I went home happy!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 24,2004 7:39pm
yeah, the show ran smooth until then.
and people where drinking like freaking fishes.

I think one of the reasons that people have so many rumors is that it took a while for you to make an announcement about what happened. with damage control, the earlier the better.
