ITT: Everyone loses battle of bands.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at May 26,2009 12:22pm
I see a band that named itself after a Trivium song and a band that somehow thought "Lot 403" was original.

The only reason I know the Trivium song is from searching through Verizon ringtones and it's always there.

BOTB = Popularity Contest.

Most of us don't play to win popularity contests, or else we would be a top 40 cover band.

Winners of BOTB don't reflect musicianship.

toggletoggle post by Eli_hhcb at May 26,2009 12:26pm
We're like...2-3 hours away at least. I doubt anyone will show up for that area for us...I'm not counting on wining for popularity.

We've allways lost, so that must mean we're sik as fukk!

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at May 26,2009 12:28pm
The key to winning a BOTB is to spend the prior month getting completely shit-hammered with anyone you can find so you can drunkenly convince them to buy tickets from you.

Rush could play a BOTB against Spinny 5, and if Spinny 5 sold more tickets, they'd win.

Words of wisdom.

Would bringing too much gear make us look super cool and popular?

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at May 26,2009 12:35pm

Too much gear would make you look like you know what you were doing and that usually results in failure at a BOTB. You gotta be amateurs with tons of friends that like your music because there's nothing else to do in their suburban towns.

Eureka!

Eyeliner and metalcore it is!

Go Post-Emo-Core.

You would fare better in the popularity contest.

This thread reminds me of a WAAF BOTB from a few years back at the Rockpile. We were the first band that played the first night of the series. The "judge" of the contest was that dude Neanderpaul who DJ'ed for AAF at the time. He showed up during the last 30 seconds of our last song, and got drunk during the rest of the bands.

We brought the most people out to that place, like 20, and each other band brought maybe 5. The Departed(pre-grindy Departed, featuring D2 on vocals) ended up winning. I saw that scarf-wearer drop a couple hundred bills on the promoter, money that was supposedly for tickets they had sold although none of said fans who had "bought tickets from them" showed up.

Moral of the story, D2's a faggot.

Yeah, when I was in Blackout Frenzy, and I was stupid enough to take part in BOTB's, we were involved in that.

We wound up going last. We started playing before everyone could leave, Neanderpaul left before our first song was done.

The band that one that night brought a bus load of people, played covers, then filled up their bus with their people the second they were done, and took off.

GOtta love that shit.
