"A lawyer made famous by the book and movie "A Civil Action" has filed a class-action lawsuit claiming tolls collected on the Massachusetts Turnpike are an illegal tax."

Fuck ya! Bout damn time.

I always felt bad about people who come in to boston via the pike. I don't know why they chose to put tolls there and nowhere else.

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at May 11,2009 10:26am
hell, it's worse crossing the Tobin though. That way costs BIG.

toggletoggle post by thuringwethil at May 11,2009 10:27am
did this have to do with them paying for the big dig meatheads buying hookers?

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 11,2009 10:31am
i can understand the need for a toll road, but the Pike is ridiculous. they make so much money off of that road every day.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at May 11,2009 10:37am
I heard this on the news this morning and I just have one thing to say.....

toggletoggle post by deathchick   at May 11,2009 11:37am
this is awesome

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at May 11,2009 11:41am
how about the fact theyre basically forcing people to get fast pass by firing live people and only having one or two working at a time so weak

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 11,2009 11:51am
the tobin sucks. when i got to the tollbooth and the bitch said $3, i laughed and gave her $2 and change.

toggletoggle post by markrichardsmobilefuck at May 11,2009 11:56am
The Mass Pike is nothing compared to the obscenely painful wallet rape that states like NY, NJ, MD and DE charge at their tolls.

WELCOME TO WISTAHHH... DOLLA TWENTY FIVE PLEASE.

Well not having that many toll workers actually saves them money. Do you know how much that people make for doing absolutely nothing? Gotta love the unions for state jobs.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 11,2009 12:36pm
toll workers make a ridiculous amount of money for barely doing any work. same with detail cops. a cops on detail get paid for a predetermined amount of hours even if they don't work all those hours. half of them fall asleep or goof around on their laptops the whole time.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at May 11,2009 12:39pm
I really do hate state unions. I can see a need for unions for trade jobs but its ridiculous to have unions for T and Toll workers. The person on the microphone who announces the stops makes $24 an hour @_@

one time i drove to Absecon NJ and decided to avoid the highway so i took a smaller "Rt. 20" sort of road, it felt like there was a 35 cent toll every mile. it was insane.

toggletoggle post by markrichardsmobilefuck at May 11,2009 1:14pm
Yeah they milk everyone for every cent they can. It cost about $27 in tolls to get to or from DE when I was doing my training course. Fucking disgusting. Sometimes I'd set my GPS to avoid tolls...resulting in about 2.5 hours extra travel. Ugh.

wow that sounds ridiculous.

Yeah...my steering wheel doesn't look the same after how many times I had to beat it like a red headed step child going through each toll. I flipped on one of the toll workers and they gave me a free ride since my AmTrak ID was showing. Sadly that didn't work everywhere.

This would be awesome, but I'm predicting that this lawsuit crashes and burns and the Turnpike authority reclaims their legal expenses by whining to the state for more money.

And of course we'll cave in.

we'll mail our congressmen a piece of asphalt. call it the Great Ass Fault Party of 2009.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at May 11,2009 1:45pm
Deval "Captain Caveman" Patrick has a pretty sweet track record as far as caving to money squandering transportation agencies.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at May 11,2009 1:45pm
hate that fucking muppet

toggletoggle post by moenli at May 11,2009 3:50pm
thats awesome but it probably won't work...
and yea, NJ is worse...luckily i know my general way through the local cities to avoid having to pay tolls but sometimes its unavoidable. Plus, they just bumped the tolls up so now its a $1.00 at the main toll stops and 50 cents at the smaller toll booths that are off of exits, but even some of those are $1

toggletoggle post by moenli at May 11,2009 3:56pm
and I almost NEVER take the Turnpike

toggletoggle post by porphyria at May 11,2009 4:19pm
pretty soon you'll have to pay a toll before you can get into your car...unless you already count insurance as a giant invisible toll booth.

toggletoggle post by moenli at May 11,2009 4:22pm
i thought thats what insurance was as well until I got hit...then it all made sense because If I didnt have it i would have had to pull $7k out of my ass somehow

i went to staten island a few years back with one of my ex-psychotic cunts. to get over the whitestone bridge it cost 5 dollars each way, and another 9 dollars to get into staten island, after being across the bridge already.

Confederation Bridge to PEI. Now keep in mind this is a 7 mile long bridge. Going to PEI = free. Leaving PEI, towing a utility trailer, I believe was about $47 Canuck.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 11,2009 4:50pm
my parents have a book about the confederation bridge. that they got while visiting my dad's family up there. i want to go there sometime.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at May 11,2009 4:54pm
PEI is beautiful, but very, very far. I went there goose hunting (it's known for that) last fall. From NH, it was a solid 12 hour ride -- travelling with 3 hunting dogs and towing a trailer. I drove straight both ways. I think you can take a ferry frm Maine during summer/tourist months which would ease the pain of the drive.
