I need a new cable. My old (guitar -> buffer) cable died after about 14 years of usage, so I am on the prowl for a new and better cable.

Should I get:

1-Monster Gold

2-Mogavi

3-Live Wire

4-George L's

5-Planet Waves

6-Elixir

7-Doesn't fucking matter

I am leaning towards Monster Gold or George L's. Possibly Elixir. I don't believe #7 one bit, I've tried various cables and flat out heard the difference.

And if I do George L's, based on what my sound is like, should I do brass, gold, or nickle?

Doesn't really matter. The current traveling through those cables is pretty small. The type of conductor doesn't matter either. Plus, if you get crazy cables with braiding and all this crazy stuff you'll get some parasitic capacitance that will bleed the high end. Just get a cable with good to great shielding and you'll be all set.

Don't buy into the Monster Cable hype for one.

Another thing I will say is you should use the shortest length cable you feel comfortable with. Longer cables can be more easily affected by interference and generally suck your tone.

Yeah. One time Monster tried to give me a nickle cable when I originally had a gold one. We plugged in the two different kinds and you can blatantly hear the difference in sound spectrum.

I also replaced all my pedal cables with gold and it's boggling how much more tone travels through.

Totally not true that the cable doesn't matter.

Monster Cables may not be the best, but they are like Craftsman tools - if they break, you can get a new one, no questions ask, even if you bring it into a store that you didn't buy it at.

I really truly believe that if you heard any difference between conductors, it was all in your head.

Mogami, george l or monster. Monster wins though for durability and the ability to get it replaced anywhere monster is sold, even though mogami has the same replacement plan. Not nearly as durable. Mogami and george ls for pure tone goodness though, i find monster rock to put a bit of extra high end in your sound(try monster bass too to combat this). OMG I BOUGHT INTO THE MONSTER HYPE CUZ THEY RULE FOR TEH WROKING MUSICIAN

I tried Monster Rock side by side with regular cables and very much liked the tonal improvement.

Plus I have had a few replaced on the spot, no questions asked, which is nice.

Monster hype or not, they do the trick for me.

I use Monster Jazz...also smooths out some of that high end.

How is the Monster Jazz different than the Monster Rock sound wise?

If this is true it's because they purposefully have inductance or capacitance going on in the braiding. I just want to seem smart.

yeah monster guitar cables are the only type of name brand cables i buy because of their warranty

Monster have a great return policy, but they're still overpriced. They use the same cable materials as other companies but put fancy looking connectors and charge you out the ass for them.

The only advantage to gold plated connectors is that they are more resistant to corrosion. Corrosion can cause a reduction in the transfer of electricity and consequently make your tone suck. As long as you don't store your cable in a bucket of salt water I wouldn't worry about it.

Monsters are overpriced but you can fucking light it on fire, run over it with a lawnmower, and fist rosie o'donnell with it wrapped around your hand and bring it to any store and get a new one. that alone wins. gotta think about the future...

then again you can probably get 2 or 3 generic cables for the price of 1 monster of the same length, so its really up to you.

I win cus i obtained most of my monsters working for daddys/gc fo' free

Mogami is the best quality cable, but monster has a great warranty program. I make cables out of mogami cabling and nuetrik connectors. Best cables I have used yet.
