Mike Phelps(aka Goofy) has been suspended from competition for three months by USA Swimming, the latest fallout from a photo that showed the Olympic great inhaling from a marijuana pipe.

The sport’s national governing body also cut off its financial support to Phelps for the same three-month period, effective Thursday.

“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the federation said in a statement.

“Mike has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”

Phelps won eight gold medals in Beijing.

this i absolutely ridiculous. its not like he's taking performance enhancing drugs. in fact its the opposite, he should be able to get an extra gold medal for pulling of that kind of athleticism whilst being a stoner. what the fuck is wrong with people.

haha seriously, i'm always impressed by someone who smokes but works really hard and does well at life. especially people like my brother who smoke tons of pot but maintain a 3.8 for the entire time they're in school.

who even knows how much pot the guy actually smokes? he mighht not even be a stoner, maybe just an occasional smoker. it's ridiculous how the media is portraying the kid as a drug addict.
