Yeah, I was never able to understand the Sunn O))) craze among art-fag kids. Last time I saw Sunn it was filled with kids I'd never expect at a show like that. I think within 20 minutes all of those kids were gone, and only about 15 people were watching them.

Wizard's First Rule was one of the worst books I have ever read. What a waste of a reading week. ugh.

That said, I've heard that some of the later books in that series (Faith of the Fallen?) are somewhat better, but I don't know how much I want to find out.

I will go on record saying that I think Conservationist needs to get down from his "ivory tower" and actually meet another human being in person. Such is required to ever pass stupid judgements again.

Prozak has met many people. I never have, but have talked to people that have met him. He's apparently a real nice guy, nothing like you'd think.

I read Wizard's First Rule in 8th grade. At that point I'd gotten over the Dragonlance stuff and at the time I thought it was really awesome high fantasy. I read the next few books in the series and I think I stopped at Faith of the Fallen. I really enjoyed them when I was a kid, they were massive and at the same time easy to grasp - it only focused on a handful of characters and there wasn't a lot of crazy underlying themes or intrigue. Faith of the Fallen was alright, the main character gets imprisioned in some dark-age dictatorship country and shows people humanism and art. I have no desire to pick up the series again.

I LOVED the two Weiss/Hickman Dragonlance trilogies. I even liked the one that came later (about the timeslip thing). Those were my favorites as a teen. I did not grow up reading fantasy and still am disposed against it, but Weiss/Hickman got to me somehow.
