violin/fiddle, mandolin, jew's harp, even a dulcimer, or lute (doubt it).

if so, and you're interested in recording a few parts for this project in 2009, let me know.
regards
Arillio Vasquez

I have a very cheap and terrible mandolin somewhere. But I haven't played it in like 5 years.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Dec 30,2008 10:59am
i took violin lessons for a while but am not good enough to record anything.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 11:05am
hmm. damn. I was thinking about borrowing/purchasing a cheap one and playing it. there's some company selling fiddles on ebay for 50 bucks right now, too.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 30,2008 12:11pm
I've been meaning to buy a mandolin. Shit's cool.

...I have a melodica though, haha.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 30,2008 12:15pm
i have been learning traditional highland bagpipe band snare drumming. It's kind of folky.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Dec 30,2008 12:32pm
Not mentioning that I'm a passable banjo player and just barely proficient with the mandolin, here.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Dec 30,2008 12:54pm
listen to the mandolin rain.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Dec 30,2008 1:11pm
i have a friend who has a lute... i dont think he knows how to play it though.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 1:29pm
well, then DYA, if you do indeed have experience with the mandolin, then I may ask you to participate.
wait, we know each other, right?

Violin and Bagpipes.

Call if you need me.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 3:12pm
Sweet. Are you able to do simple folkish melodies over acoustic guitar and do you own them? and yet another stupid question: electric or real violin?

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Dec 30,2008 3:13pm
I heard aaron plays a mean skinflute.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Dec 30,2008 3:14pm
Real violin. All wood...not electronics. I'm no Andy Happel...but I can play. Been doing it for about 10 years. And yes...I own my instruments.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Dec 30,2008 3:15pm
andy happel is excellent

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 3:19pm
from devil in the kitchen? i'm not looking for that style. I'm looking for something along the lines of neun welten - a fairly new german folkish band. you guys have the intelligence to download or buy their album. i'm at work and can't post a link but it's really awesome. just simple background melodies to an acoustic backbone. it's going to be a unique project and i'm putting a lot of planning/focus into it, outside of herugrim that is.

andy happel is a violinist from nh. the kid from devil in the kitchen is andy reiner.

i love neun welten. it will be nice to hear another project like that, especially something local. do you plan to play shows with it ever?

"Pfft - Grandpa's guitars."

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 3:57pm
yeah right. i'd love to pull a band like that off live. there's not enough musicians with the same influences and that play those instruments around here. that would be very awesome though...

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Dec 30,2008 6:27pm
I can borrow a banjo pretty easily - getting hold of a mandolin on short notice might be harder.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 6:32pm
I don't think this project will involve a banjo. Not going for bluegrass. Going for Ulver-esque type riffs with some neo-folk and ambient elements.

Althought being in a bluegrass band would be fucking sick. Bluegrass Black metal ftw.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Dec 30,2008 6:35pm
Andy Reiner is in utah for a year anyway :P

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 30,2008 6:36pm
polygamist?

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Dec 30,2008 6:36pm
you should talk to our guitarist stash... he is good at mandolin.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Dec 30,2008 6:36pm
lol no worse a skiing jew

Listened to any of the acoustic Ensiferum stuff? Banjo all over that. It's more of a versatile instrument than people give it credit for.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 31,2008 9:46am
Of course I heard that stuff. If you're primarily talking about the intro on Iron, then that's a little too cheesey/psuedo-1960s-GallapingWestern sounding.

toggletoggle post by My name's Johnny at Dec 31,2008 10:42am
I play a fiddle of gold.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Nov 3,2010 3:32pm
ATTN HOSER

CAN YOU REALLY PLAY VIOLIN AND IF SO, TO WHAT REGARD. WE NEED ONE

toggletoggle post by bloblovesmusic at Nov 3,2010 4:16pm
I'm trying to get back to playing mandolin. Give me a year and then I'll join you!

toggletoggle post by nekronautnli at Nov 3,2010 4:31pm
If I still had my clarinet I bet I could pick it up pretty easy.. played for 8 years, I was one siq-azz clarinet player bro

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Nov 3,2010 4:41pm
This is for something else although I'd still love to do a neofolk project.

Are you really good at clarinet? For real?

toggletoggle post by TheRidersofDoom  at Nov 3,2010 5:16pm
hammered dulcimer....I wish

toggletoggle post by ancient master at Nov 4,2010 11:14am
I can play some different instruments
I have an autoharp which can sound really cool, and I have some wooden flutes, one which has 2 chambers one being a drone. If you want to hear what I did with some of them check out www.myspace.com/vysok
