I was checking out an LTD EX series and the way the neck fit into the body way up at the top made it really hard to play around the 20th fret and above. You have to wrap your hand around the body and the neck. Really annoying. Are all the EX guitars like that? What the FX?
I really like Explorer style guitars and that one was pretty reasonably priced but it really got on my nerves.

i'm not big on the explorer models. i use an esp ltd dave mustaine v and the neck action is great and it provides easy access to the higher frets. i haven't played the model you're talking about though so i have no insight as far as that ex is concerned.

i stand by esp guitars is all i'm really saying here

get a Firebird, remember playing my red one? Real easy access and with the mini humbuckers lots of high pitch squeal noise

anthony saccone (secthammer) has one. it played nice. no fret access problems.

only thing is, it doesn't have a 25.5" scale so if you want to downtune far, you gotta use real thick strings.

I play a c series bass and an h series guitar. Both of which I am very happy with.

all of the EX models (even the highend 400s) have bulky heels and will have the same fret access as that. try finding a neckthrough jackson kelly.
