This is exactly why I hate politicians and politics.

Pre-Election "CHANGE, NOW, CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE!!!!!"

Post-Election "Its gonna be a long hard road...it may not happen in one year, it may not happen in 1 term!"

Fuck, I hate politicians. Worse than used car salesman.

AND that MORON Jesse Jackson showed up...if I were Obama, I would stay as far away from that asshole as possible.

Anyone who believed the pre-election rhetoric is a moron...unfortunately, a lot of people are morons.

Pandering to retards is about 80% of politics. Every successful politician does it.

I hate being educated.

You got him there......too bad he's been saying "Its gonna be a long hard road...it may not happen in one year, it may not happen in 1 term!" as long as I've known about him if you've heard any of his speeches at all. Not just post election as you stated.

If anything McCain backpedaled in his speech by not being a complete asshole.

I'm just going to chime in and say that we'll be seeing the repercussions of Bush's economic plans in a few years just like we saw the repercussions of Clinton's economic plans. People will probably praise Obama but it will all be Bush's fault (in a good way). This country needs to get its act together, learn about economics, and then open their mouth. 6-12 years from now we'll be feeling Obama's legacy. Economics take time. What looks and feels shitty in the short term is almost always good in the long term and vice versa.

If I wanted to move to Japan, or northern Europe, which I've thought hard about, I wouldn't hesitate to learn their language as fast as I could even though most of them speak English anyway. Immigrants here have the same desire. And the ones that don't, fuck em, they won't get far at all anyway, they'll stay in their community church.

I have been looking around online at quotes/speeches from our new president elect, and i have found support of KEEPING spanish as a requirement, but i haven't found anywhere that he say english will also not be a requirement. I Was under the impression that it would be both, which is basically what most other industrialized countries do. At LEAST two required languages that is, which in the long run is great for the students. And as far as forcing english on immigrants, you can't really FORCE them to learn anything, unless your talking about in school, in which case i believe it is a requirement. Personally, It all makes sense to me.

personally, I would like to license guns like cars (if you want to take them off your land and drive 'em around, they need to be registered), but if you want to sit on your land and uzi that car on blocks in your car, more power to you.
and make tanks/rpgs/mines/grenades illegal.

And you, who (I'm assuming) do not own a gun should be able to get one on the black market, not register it and go around with it anyway?

What right does the government have to know what I own? I spend my money the same way as any other hard working American...why should I have to pay a fee to own something that is my RIGHT to own?

why do people get so riled up about guns? I don't understand.

we do not live in a hostile environment and the kinds of guns people have seems completely unnecessary. WTF does someone need an AK-47, Uzi, or any automatic weapon for?

I agree with Rev. that people with these kind of weapons should be required to have proper licenses, ect. It appears to be too easy for people to get their hands on such things.

There are more important things in life other than guns, like hookers, guitars and pizza.

hoser, you drive a registered car with a license that is soon to be "real IDed". Then cops in plain cloths can walk by you and (if you have your license on you) know who you are immediately.
you post on the internet and can easily be tracked.
you probably have a cellphone and can be tracked.
if you commit a felony, you shouldn't be able to own a gun (or vote)
if you are a mental patient, you shouldn't be able to own a gun.

registering a gun to keep legal guns out of the wrong hands seems pretty awesome to me. Let them buy a gun illegally, and then go away for longer.

forcing us to learn their languange is infringing on our freedom and way of life.
it should be like every other country, you learn their language, or you do not live there
ZERO TOLERANCE

I am sorry to tell you bud but that is not the way it is in other countries. In most other industrialized countries people are forced to learn more than their native language otherwise they won't graduate high school. The same that it is here for kids learning spanish. And the reason it's not infringing on our freedoms, or ways of life is because our government doesn't really force anyone to learn anything, they have regulations on what classes people need to complete before they graduate highschool, and part of that is foreign language. So you will never be forced to learn anything, unless your going back to school. And personally, i like that. I think that while children from MOST other countries are bi-lingual, it would be smart to make sure ours can keep up. We might not be the capitolist wetdream that we are now forever, some day our children might need to travel to handle business/get away from some situation here, and when that happens wouln't you have their education be as comprehensive as that of other countries? And the only real differnce between us and those countries is that their are some (a very select few) who DO require even adults to learn the main language, or they will kick them out. Which if you ask me, is infringing on their rights.

you already can't vote while on probation, etc... but I guess my statement against felony. White collar things I don't think we have to worry about, but if someone goes to jail for rape/murder/kidnapping/grand theft, they probably wouldn't be the sort of person you want legally owning a gun.

well my high school/all the dudes in my office had to take foreign language, my sisters have had too, and all my friends had too. At least two years of it.

And i am not saying that your uninformed in general, just in that most other countries have a zero tolerance policy. I mean, say Mexico does have such a law, i know people living in Mexico (my wife's relatives) and they speak Italian/Portuguese. Which the latter is similar to Spanish, but by no means the same language. And they have been there for years. So while maybe a law like that (as draconian as it would be) may be in place, they don't enforce it. And do we really want to model any of our country after Mexico? I don't think they are really the cultural mecca that we are, or that Germany, or Europe are.

And are you saying that you would like all grown adults here to be forced to speak fluently? Because if immigrants want to become citizens there is a naturalization process in place that requires a test about our history/laws, and classes. (in English) I know that naturalization is circumvented frequently by people who are just illegal and don't try to become a citizen, but no law about English will change that at all. (short of random roadblocks near our borders to make sure they can speak english........ obviously i am kidding about that.)

Anyways, my main points are this, everyone i know was forced to take at least two years of foreign language going to school, and i believe for good reason, and the worlds cultures continue to mix, there is nothing anyone can do about it, and the children of this country need to be able to keep up. That NECESSITATES a bi-lingual language set. (If not TRI-Lingual). It's education, and it's important. And the rest of the world (like i was saying, at least all the industrialized countries) are all forced (for graduation that is) to learn two if not three languages. And it has helped the children on those countries immensely.

And as far as forcing adults here to learn english when they immigrate here.. like i said, during naturalization there are requirements in place that require learning at least the basics of our language, and if your saying that those standards need to be raised, then i could see that. But any kind of standardized testing for any new immigrants may be a little much.

i am talking about american born assholes who refuse to learn english.

see the big loophole is some pregnant twat jumpes a fence or rides a floating door to get here, shits out a little brat, cries "don't sepreate our family" and the whole non-english speaking bunch of fuckers finds a way to stay.

English is the primary language, and it should stay that way, trying to force people who were born here to "adapt to bi-lingualism" or "embrace linguistic diversity" is nothing but P.C. crybaby liberal nonsense.

It will be an invaluable skill throughout the rest of their lives that will most likely enable them to go to more places, do more things, and make more money. If it was a requirement to learn all about mexican culture for instance, or traditions, that would bother me, because it will not benefit them at all, and is of no use unless they just want to know it. But language is just a skill set that's importance is matched by very few other things.

it is a disadvantage.

why pay bi-linguals more?.....let's save the country money by not hiring people who refuse to learn english, and not offering incentives for bilingualism....
everyone.....illegals included......will be forced to learn english, and never again, will someone who was born in this country have to be annoyed by some cocksmoker who looks at you like you're an ass for not knowing their language!

looking at learning spanish as a disadvantage is crazy. It making other it easier for other people to not learn english MAY be a by product of it, but it will not change how many non english speakers learn english. But it WILL

Let them get paid more because many jobs have to deal with non english speakers, whether you think it's right or not, it's not going to change.

Because they can travel around the world to other countries, and see different things, and understande what the hell is going on. Even get a job in those countries and move their if they want to.

Your answer that learning spanish is a DISADVANTAGE is a very VERY narrow minded view that looks at the rest of the world as not being important, and your earlier argument was that we SHOULD be like the rest of the world?! Well the rest of the world MAKES them learn more than one language. Because it's an OBVIOS advantage in business, and travel. If you really don't get that, i am shocked, and dissapointed because i expected more of you. Sorry to put it that way, but this last comment about it being a disadvantage is outrageous. Stupid even.

Immigrants came right behind them speaking German, Italian, French and Spanish, we've been a melting pot since we "discovered" America. Get the fuck over it. You've got no right discriminating against immigrants unless you're 100% pure blooded Native American.

Voting YES to make English the national language would accomplish NOTHING. It was a stupid SHOW ME YOUR PATRIOTIC BALLS vote like the flag burning one. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.

Just because you're not smart enough to pass a couple of Spanish or French classes in college and high school doesn't mean it should be banned for everyone else.

oh for fucks sake dude.
it has nothing to do with "not being smart enough"
i didn't take spanish class because in my high school it was NOT required, and i found it to be a big waste of time.
so shove your assumptions up your ass.

yeah you are right, immigrants did start this country.
but that was before, when the country was flourishing

now we are overpopulated, and in an economic crisis!

yeah, we did fuck the indians over, but if we let the course continue (giving more and more leinience to illegals, and allowing people to live in this country without learning english) we will be the indians, and they will be the pilgrims.

the reason english is our primary language is that people who built america up to what it is now (ya know, those assholes who wrote the constitution and the bill of rights) decided that was one they could all embrace.

Ok.... how can you say talk about things infringing on our "libertys"? PLEASE realize that the freedom of "speech, religion, etc".. in the constitution does not say anywhere "AS LONG AS YOUR DOING IT IN ENGLISH". Matter of fact, saying that is unconstitutional. Fact. Even saying that because people are here they should speak english is unconstitutional. Think about it. How do you expect to have the freedoms to do whatever you want, and to fight for those freedoms, and then say that someone else who is here should not be allowed to not know english. Just because the constitution was written in english? Of course not, there is no good reason. Just because it has been spoken here for years by the majority? Sorry, but that's one of the principles this country was founded on, that you are allowed to pursue life liberty and happiness how ever you like, given that your aren't breaking laws while your doing it. NOT as long as your speaking english while your doing it.

white people are not persecuted (although those of us who don't pander to special interests are demonized by liberals in general)

and i NEVER said foreigners were inferior (that was you putting words in my mouth)

but as the number of undocumented illegal immigrants rises, and the liberal mentality allows it, the risk of us being treated as our ancestors treated native americans does increase.

I have never met anyone that thinks people should break the law and live here. Ever. I think we need to have more realistic allowances for the brown people (we've got more for Euro immigrants), a better and enthusiastic path to citizenship and WAY better border security. I also think when we find illegals they should be treated like fucking humans so we make sure we don't ship kids/parents back separated like what happened in New Bedford last year.

And here's a wacky thought: how about going after the companies that fucking hire these people. But we can't go after "small businesses" thanks to small government conservatism.

Maybe if it wasn't so easy to get a job here, people would be dropping dead crossing the desert to get here. Don't blame desperate people, blame the money grubbing fucks that exploit them.

i assure you sir that no one has said this to me in the past. I have been listening to conservative talk radio for years now, and in the last couple days i have been very irritated by the amount of whining i've been hearing from them. So obviously i assumed you were complaining to a similar end. If in fact you are laying groundwork for a counterattack, then i retract my whining statement, and applaud your pro activeness. I am a little offended though, i thought by this point you knew me to be someone who wouldn't repeat something like that because it had made me feel owned in the past.
I guess in the wash it doesn't matter, but i really did just type how i felt, it had nothing to do with someone putting those thoughts together in that way as an argument against something i said in the past. Anyways, enough defending my dignity, how do you intend counterattack? I would be very interested to know which part of our current situation needs reforming at the hands of free thinking citizens (obviously there are plenty) and how you would accomplish it. As i consider myself to be totally non-partisan i will help any cause i believe just.
