Well i doubt i'll get much of a response here but i'm doing a bit of promotion for this game i play and figure it's worth a shot.

The game is called Project Visitor. It is the reworkings of a previous game 10six which was run by Sega and shut down in 2002. It was promptly bought up by the community and re-released as Project Visitor and has been running ever since.

Basically the story is this: "An Alien planetoid has entered our solar system. Scientists find it is rich in a new energy source called Transium. 4 multinational corporations each mount expeditions to the strange new planet. What they discover sets off the biggest land rush in history. Join up now and help colonize Planet Visitor. Build camps to mine Transium in a fully immersive 3D world. Project Visitor runs 24/7 so if you do not defend yourself properly, you may log in to find camps damaged or destroyed. But not to worry...there are plenty of camps out there for the taking. So suit up and grab your piece of the rock. " (yay for copy/paste)

So pretty much the game combine elements of a First Person Shooter and a Real Time Strategy. You move around the planet on a hoverboard which you control in first person. You also build these robot things called Rovers which you equip with weapons. The whole goal is to team up with members of your corporation and kill enemy camps.

It's by far the most fun and unique online game i've ever played. Screw world of war faggots or whatever.

and a sweet video

wow, and I thought $15 a month was a rip off.

There are plenty free MMO's you can find. I've tried many, but I can never get into them.

Also, why wasn't this tagged with [videogame]

I used to play this crappy free MMORPG called Well of Souls. Ah, shit, now I'm soudning like McGunk. Anyway, it was pretty much made in MS Paint.
Then I played one called Dark Ages, which was okay.
Once Star Wars Galaxies came out, I got it and played it. I was obsessed with it for a month or two, took a 3 month break, played it again, and all of my equipment/skills were shit compared to everyone else. The problem with MMORPGs is that they demand you to continuously play them to compete. They're good games, but evil. Anyone who plays WoW is a moron who should be doing better things with their life.
MMO games (not rpgs) make more sense because they're less stat-based.

my all-time fav computer games to play online are:
starcraft (hate fucking backstabbers)
TFC (team fortress classic)
Counterstrike (notice, no SOURCE shit)
Age of Empires II
Soldier of Fortune II
Worms
Age of Wonders
and so on.
I really fucking miss playing computer games online; if anyone wants to challenge me to any of these games above, feel free to do so.

Fuck yes TFC, and 1.6 CS
I prefer SoF I over II.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 23,2008 5:03pm
I literally played TFC since it came out until a year or two ago. Some of my fondest memories are having clan wars at 2fort and being that annoying demoman that sets traps and kills everyone.

toggletoggle post by The_Masked_Man  at Oct 23,2008 5:07pm
2fort in TF2 is terrible. Thankfully someone made a custom 2fort_classic map.
I was always sniper, or engineer.

toggletoggle post by sever at Oct 23,2008 5:07pm
worms is awesome.

I prefer source over 1.6, it's just a smoother experience overall

toggletoggle post by The_Masked_Man  at Oct 23,2008 5:08pm
CS:S is fun for modded game types, but the hitboxes are just terrible.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 23,2008 5:13pm
I refuse to play TF2, man. Played it once but it was a little over the top for me. I used to be in a clan with a bunch of mappers. The most famous ones were Minigolf (not sure if you've played that map or not) and Carnival and stuff.
Dertoxia, that game sounds pretty cool but I don't know if i'd pay 5 bucks for 7 days!

I was to young to remember much custom maps, let alone names. I think I played around 90% of the time on 2fort. I remember playing that game when I was 9. Thank god I did not have a microphone, to bad some kids that age do.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 23,2008 5:18pm
That was the funniest thing ever. When they made it work with mics. Everytime I killed someone I would get yelled at my some little kid. It was extremely entertaining blowing away children with some Mirv nades.
Every now and then I'll drop in Drippy's 2fort, one of the few full 2fort servers for TFC still around.

toggletoggle post by The_Masked_Man  at Oct 23,2008 5:20pm
I'll have to go play some time. I must admit I've not played TFC in years.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 23,2008 5:22pm
It would be sick if someone could organize an rttp TFC tournament but there's probably 3 people that have played that on here and most of them probably don't want to play 10 year old games anymore.

toggletoggle post by The_Masked_Man  at Oct 23,2008 6:29pm
I bet we would have more luck starting a cs 1.6 tournament rather than TFC. Both would be great.

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Oct 23,2008 7:13pm
The 5 dollar thing is a bit misleading. It's 1 dollar for the account creation, which is a one time only thing, and then it's 4 dollars for the 7 day trial. After that it's 13 bucks a month or 35 for three months.

But with the free trial going in it's going to be free for 2 weeks to try things out.

i play WoW. i have a 70 hunter, very well geared, i rape.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 24,2008 8:46am
oh, that's not too bad. is it worth it?

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 24,2008 9:23am
i'll never forget the day I was allied with a couple of koreans on starcraft, defeated 3 comps, and they both turned on me a rushed with lings and carriers at the same time. I wanted to kill them. that game was so fucking fun online - so fun, that i'd challenge anyone on this board to a vs. I'm a little rusty, but i'll pillage your cities with massive amounts of hydralisks

toggletoggle post by timma at Oct 24,2008 9:39am
TFC is the one of my favorite games of all time. Sniper of 2fort? Shit son, I was gangsta on that. Counterstrike was PHENOMENAL, especially with all the different skins you could download.

Anyone ever play Firearms? It was another HL based multiplayer. Similar to CS, but you could level up and shit. Very cool.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 24,2008 9:41am
Yep, I remember Firearms. I used to play all of those damn Mods. Firearms, Action Halflife, Sven Coop, HLDM, CS, Ricochet, DoD, etc
