Blasphemy! Billy Gibbons owns Thorogood! SRV slays, but I gotta give the edge to ZZ Top on these 3...Billy Gibbons was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist. WIN

well, i always found hendrix overrated, so that means nothing to me.

but as far as i'm concerned, Thorogood had more skill and personality than all three members of ZZ combined.

and Stevie Ray owns all other blues rock (and many old school blues) guitarists

srv and jimi hendrix are two entirely different players in my book. SRV's strength was in his tone and how hard he played, Jimi's was in his innovative song structures and use of effects. Both came from the same roots though so I can see how you can compare the two, but I still think they both have their own styles that warrant liking them both.

lol @ yay drugs, hahaha

but no, i just mean i think he is overrated, in that he probably would not have the same reputation, were he white and right handed.
it's just an opinion, but back then, there was still a ridiculous amount of public racism, and i think Hendrix got alot of (maybe too much) credit for being a black dude in predominantly white rock music scene.

plus, people from that era had a strange fascination with left handed guitarists.....at least that's what i've gathered from people i've known/met who were around (and fans of his) when he was "in his prime"

Right, like you would've said that to me otherwise. Give me a fucking break.

So you're basing on the word of people who were completely drugged out of their minds.

Even if they weren't on drugs. Think of how wrong the average person today is about music stuff. Just look around the internet and you'll find a ton of wrong information about every band you can think of. And that's just about recent stuff. I'm supposed to believe your theory based on the word of a handful of guys trying to remember 40 years ago?
Show me stuff written back then or you are just making up stuff to fit your opinion.

I asked for examples of "wankery" you give a wise ass answer, which one would only do when you can't think of a real answer. And I'm talking music, not lyrics.
Hendrix was a perfectionist to the point of it being a fault in the studio. He was not messed up during his sessions. Where are you getting your information from?
"wankery" implies unnecessary guitar masturbation. With the exception of Third Stone from the Sun, there was nothing Hendrix released that fits that defintion.

AC and Slayer would fit on a bill together. In fact we almost did play with Slayer but we ended up going to CA instead.

slayer has also played with slipknot, that doesn't mean shit.

all i'm saying is, ac is heavy, slayer is heavy....but are 100 PERCENT DIFFERENT STYLES OF MUSIC.

just like hendrix and every other black rock and roll artist before him.

hendrix's style of rock is completely different from redding.

maybe him and some of those artists could have played together as well.

but it doesn't change the fact that he was the first black to play that "woodstocky" style of rock.

I was having this conversation about zz top recently.
which band has more sexual innuendos?
ZZ Top or AC/DC?

toggletoggle post by orgymf@work at Oct 24,2008 2:19pm
definately ZZ....
but AC/DC is up there....and awesome

toggletoggle post by theaccursedvokillist  at Oct 24,2008 2:23pm
Due to volume of albums out. I would say AC/DC
zz top has 14 albums and ac/dc has 20.

In sheer numbers, I don't feel like counting. But I don't anything ZZ ever did could top Squaler or Big Balls.

as far as my opinion on hendrix, disagree all ya want, it's just music, and i still think you are wrong.

Taste is taste. but if Hendrix had been white and played exactly the same (although I'm not sure that would've been possible) the impact would've been the same.
Jimmy Page was white. Biggest riff thief ever, didn't have 1/100th of the creativity Hendrix did. Also one of the most influential players ever.

Nope. And look at all the lyrics, not just the titles.
Bon Scott was the greatest sex lyricst ever.

One of my favorite things to do on a coke bender was to play along to El Ranco Texicano back when I lived at The Compound
