I know Degenerate Booking's Skarhead show there got cancelled last minute and now I'm hearing all over that it's been closed. Foreclosed on? Confirm/deny?

It's difficult to find out because people who work at the living room are extremely difficult to contact

torpaul - 11:39 am (68.14.87.52)
halfnakedcity - 11:00 am (209.6.196.26)
torpaul - 10:27 am (68.14.87.52)
they are officially closed (past tense). the last show there was the 17th. they are done.

But why? I doubt such a long running institution would just close for the fuck of it with no explanation given.

i know the dudes who work there wanted to keep all the details to themselves. but pretty much charlie (randy's son) didn't renew their lease or their licenses or something and they got forclosed on. i don't know yet as to what is happening to the current booked shows...other than they won't be at the living room.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 21,2008 12:06pm
yeah...I know there were kids in younger bands trying to promote shows here for the future at the living room. You'd think they'd get around to letting people know not to show up.

or for touring bands to reschedule.

all I know, is that if someone buys that and tries to do anything they'll probably have to tear it down and start over. I have no idea how that place passed inspections for so long.

All that said, I enjoyed it there. sucks.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Oct 21,2008 12:07pm
despite the living room being a shit hole... its always sad to see another venue close- especially when they host nationals and local acts. bummer.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Oct 21,2008 12:38pm
i have so many memories of the living room. I used to go almost every sunday night and watch as the sun sets play. (even back when they were cast off skin) they used to play with "at any cost", "day after", "indesit" and "seven day curse" ALL the time. I saw soooo many bands there, it was the only place i ever saw "his hero is gone", and it was the only weekly techno night i ever went to. (energy on tuesdays, like 7 years ago) what a crazy, decrepit place. I am definately gonna miss it, but if i know the ownership, it will reopen in a different location within a year.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 21,2008 12:48pm
well...last time they opened in a different location like that, it was the owner who has since died.

So sadly, that's debatable.

Most hilarious reason I've heard yet--

'I heard it was beacuse Lightning Bolt played on the floor and some rich RISD student couldnt see too well and when he tried to get close he stepped on a pedal and made them sound like they hadn't practiced in like weeks and because of the hazing on this board he got his dad to close it down. win #2 for the RISD conglomerate.'

first show sac ever played there the heat was off and it was like 15 degrees outside or something ridiculous. the second time was a dual stage show that was running late and some shitty band got pissed at us and made all their fans not watch us for "setting up before they were done and disrespecting them." we then got blamed for making the show run late.

i think that faggot D2 from the original lineup of The Departed was the singer.

wow, had some great experiences there

ya that shit was fuckin cold.

"This past Friday, in a very fitting way, six local metal bands played a show at the Living Room. There were some newer bands, young and full of hopeful optimism, and some scene veterans, doing what they love as they have hundreds of times before on that stage. It was the kind of show that kept the doors of that club open for the last fifteen years, and it was the last show.

Randy always said the reason he loved musicians so much and why he kept the doors of the club open when logic and reason both probably dictated otherwise, is because musicians are the last great dreamers of the world. Randy felt it was a dream worth getting behind and he did so with a contagious optimism. The dreams of countless musicians were given a home inside The Living Room, and the scene flourished within its doors. From the hard working veterans of the local scene, to the touring acts, to the teenagers playing their first show on a Monday night in front of their girlfriends and parents, Randy made everyone feel welcome. He always encouraged and supported the bands and his employees in any way he could.

The current staff of The Living Room has taken an enormous amount of pride and put a lot of hard work into keeping Randy's dream alive. It is with heavy hearts and for reasons outside of our control that we will be unable to continue hosting shows at The Living Room. We sincerely apologize to any bands with shows booked that will not be able to take place. Please look for further announcements about shows that are being moved to other venues. We would also like to thank every single person that ever performed, drank, fought, danced, puked, sang along, worked or dared to dream within the walls of that club, or the two locations that preceded it.

What the future holds is still uncertain, maybe a new location and a new set of dreams. But in the mean time, if you see Papa Joe or Little Pete, any member of the Hien family, DJ Venom, Max Creek, or any of the people or bands that made The Living Room what it was to you over the course of the last thirty years, say thanks. A lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed on that stage and in that room, let's not forget why and who made it possible for us all to live the dream.

What dreams may come…

Aaron Jaehnig and Gregory Rourke"

I am at work and I am serious about the Living Room closing! Please remove that photo from this thread.

I am serious about the facts about what happened. Did the sons sell out? Where are the local shows going to play now? No way at Lupo's.

If anyone wants to get a hold of me just message me I will write back.

The Mantis is still in the scene, just the scene sucks. If the scene wants to help themselves then I am all for it.

Come on guys! Lets get this shit going!

What kind of an aneurysm do you have if you're a Providence health inspector, or building inspector looking at the Living Room? The bathroom was basically a smashed toilet floating on a sea of grime for almost a decade. Man, I loved the Living Room.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Oct 22,2008 2:17pm
there were windows smashed out of that place for like 5 years

How about you remove yourself from the thread.

And, while you're at it, remove the English language from your daily routine, you're terrible at it.

hardly a love fest

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEnemaBradness at Oct 22,2008 3:15pm
my fondest memory is saying the black sound guy looked like Predator, not knowing he was the sound guy. So we are doing our soundcheck and the dude asks me to do a vocal check, i scream "hey brother!" into the mic, it was a reference to the Legendary Red Dog character from Almost Famous. Needless to say, we sounded like shit that night cuz he heard our whole Predator conversation

toggletoggle post by broken at Oct 23,2008 4:25pm
RIP - so amny memories, but Providence will reboundm I'm sure. I'm thinking Jerky's, Hell, for the smaller shows. i really miss the Met too -

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Oct 23,2008 4:39pm
Yeah, the Met Cafe kicked the crap out of the Living Room. But what Providence really needs is for the Olneyville warehouse shows to come back.
