Now, we are specifically talking about people who died in the prime of their career. In other words, someone who could have contributed more to their body of work if they hadn't died. Musicians, comedians, actors, or any other performer you can think of.

I will say..

Bill Hicks
Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka
George Carlin (i know, he was really old, and some may argue not in his prime. I personally found him hilarious till the end. He almost got funnier with age.

My office Mate says...

Bill Hicks
Randy Rhodes
Jon Bonham

chris farley

and yes, Heath Ledger so he'd be able to be in the 3rd batman movie.

Right before Hendrix died, I guess him and Miles Davis we're going to collaborate on a trippy-ass album. I always thought it would have been an unbelievable album if that were to ever happen.

That was about a year and a half before he died. I have an album with outtakes from a session Jimi did with a horn section. It's actually pretty cool (I am also a huge Chicago fan) but the way Jimi bounced around from idea to the next so quickly during the last couple years of his life I really doubt the Jimi/Miles thing would have ever ended up happenning if it didn't happen by the time he died.

Not a bootleg, but way out of print.
Though I think its been reissued as a DVD.

Jimi Hendrix and Bill Hicks are obvious picks, dying young at the peak of height of their creativity and whatnot.
I don't know if he really counts as a 'performer' per se, but Sergio Leno died at 60 years old but only a few years after making maybe his best movie and I've read that he had another in the works and plently of other projects he was working on. If he could have lived to 70 he may have had 1 or 2 more and they'd likely be in my top 10.

I was going to say Valfar but you beat me to it. I was just listening to Arntor and 1184 earlier this morning. He pretty much died the most Black Metal death.

The drum patterns Steve MacDonald wrote for Obscura were unbelievable. It's unfortunate that he took his own life, such a waste of talent.

Well, the only reason i didn't say zappa was because he had long life FILLED with musical output. How many albums did him and the mother have? Looks like about 100 releases on wiki. I dunno if i would consider him to be someone that i think was cut too short, man did more music than almost anyone. He would be in my fav3, but not someone that i feel like was cut down in their prime.

First of all, ragging on someone for setting his guitar on fire is rather hypocritical coming from a GG Allin fan.

The guy invented so much shit that became so commonplace it almost seems generic by todays standard, but NO ONE was doing what he was doing at the time. No one sounded like that, no one played like that. The guy pretty much invented heavy metal.
and imo he was a phenomanal song writer. The stuff he was working on when he died was his best stuff ever. If all you know is the played out stuff thats played 8000 times a day on WZLX then you have no clue what you are talking about.

Kinison got his yelling from being an evangelical minister, the two hung out in Hicks early career when Kinison was much more popular, hicks didn't embrace his anger driven (screaming) comedy until after Kinison had already been performing that way for years

Kinison wasn't as intelligent or satirical, but was definitely a great comedian

I am so thankful that I went to see Sam live. And i said it in another thread, is your computer broken or something? Why do you triple post/post and then have two posts directly following with just "." in them. Its silly.

Anyways, i don't think Jimi was overrated, but gg alenn hurting himself, and Jimi burning a guitar are not the same. And there really is no way you can PROVE whether or not he is overrated, so why get so mad?

hahaha, but no in all seriousness, i do find Jimi to be overrated, but i also knew that publicly stating such an opinion would inspire verbal attacks.

kinison's whole screamin thing was stolen directly form hicks. The exact same method of screaming mid joke, same pitch, same made faces, maybe their material was different, but that always got to me.

Kinison was doing that at least as far back as 1984 (probably earlier, but those are the oldest tapes I've seen)
So you = wrong, way fucking wrong.

1. Stating that someone ripped off someone else is NOT opinion. You were wrong, me and others proved you wrong, shut the fuck up about it.

2. If you can't see that someone lighting a guitar on fire and someone eating his own shit are both gimicks that have nothing to do with the music, you and Orgy are in some massive kind of massive GG worship denial. Lighting your guitar on fire in 1967 was as shocking as flinging shit in 1987.

3. The triple posting is not my fault. Rev. keeps saying he'll fix it. You really think I'm fucking doing that on purpose?

dude, we can see how they are gimicks that have nothing to do with the music.

but it still doesn't change the fact that there is a HUGE difference between eating feces/self-mutilation/assaulting audience members.

i don't care if that was "just as shocking" back then, because if his nappy-head caught on fire, someone would have run out with water and save his life.

G.G. risked his life on a daily basis.
Jimi was flashy and overrated.
G.G. was out of his mind!

ok, first off, calm down. No need for "shut the fuck up". Seriously, just having a discussion, not trying to pick a fight.

And when people thought that the world was flat, that was an opinion. Just because they were wrong doesnt make it not an opinion. Opinions are strange like that, cause technically they are just what someone thinks.
And while people argue with opinions on this board all the time, they don't usaully feel the need to add the "shut the fuck up" onto it. I wasn't directly insulting your family or anything, i was stating an opinion of a comic.

(which i will admit that i was wrong about by the way, which is people (I) have discussions like this online, to see how other people feel about things, enlighten myself to new points of view.)

I don't even like GG Allen. Seriously, i don't like his music at all. But by what your saying, anyone who uses ANY gimics (that have nothing to do with the music) in their music are ripping of Jimi. Like when the o so famous (but not so good) band slipknot wears masks, are they ripping of Jimi? Or am i understanding you wrong? And please, if you choose to respond to this, don't think i am trying to put you down, or whatever, and maybe think about whether or not its necessary to be so mad about it.

Webster definition: Opinion

An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something. It is an assessment, judgment or evaluation of something. An opinion is not a fact, because opinions are either not falsifiable, or the opinion has not been proven or verified.

and while i admit that i am wrong now about said arguement, while i made the "statement in question" it had not been proven to me.. and fuck it, honestly it's still not PROVEN. I believe orgy, therefor it's not my opinion anymore, but how can you PROVE it's not true by release dates? Do you know for a fact that Sam didnt hear Bill doing his act 8years before Bill's first release? How do you know they didnt hang out and exchange material way before their albums were released? Or do you think their entire lives started with their first releases?
Basically, i DO believe sam did it first, but neither you, or me, can PROVE how much material a comic did, or didnt get from the other. They could have done amatuer shows together for years before sams first release, i know bill was doin comedy for years before his. Any ways, i wasn't gonna get into this, but i went back and read your posts, and your not being a nice person. Matter of fact i think your being mean just because you feel like it, or had a bad day, or something. And if you wanna be like that, and be so rude in the process, i feel inclined to show you that, yes it WAS an opinion, and maybe you didn't understand what an opinion was, so now your informed. Ok Buddy?

You are understanding me wrong. I wasn't even arguing with you about Jimi/GG. That argument was with orgy.

I just wanted to make sure you understood that Sam was definately not ripping off Bill Hicks at all. You seem to have gotten that now. My job is done.

Like I said, its all just opinion.

I wouldn't exactly say GG was risking his like though. Maybe risking getting AIDS, but not the way you mean it.

and for the record, I am a GG fan. He made some really shitty records and some really great records.
Eat My Fuc, Live Fast Die Fast, You'll Never Tame Me, and Brutality and Bloodshed For All are all awesome records that I would've liked even if I didn't know a single thing about his stage antics. (and that's all they were, stage antics. He did not live his daily life like that at all)
Now excuse me while I go sneak off to the bathroom andshoot a bag of dope. Hopefully I'll die like GG did.

yeah it is all opinion.
i think he could've died on stage.
the way he attacked people, i am very surprised he was never shot or stabbed to death.

and if he had ever cut himself the wrong way/in the wrong place, he would have bled to death.

not to mention the number of videos i have seen where climbs up amps and shit, and fell in akward positions where he was lucky not to break his neck.

but regardless of that, i love his music too, the on stage shit is just extra entertainment.

all the records you listed, plus the "anti-social personality disorder" live record, the "suicide sessions" and "you give love a bad name" are fucking excellent
