*warning post is about music other than metal*

So my Tool tribute band "useful idiot" is booking our first show for the end of october. I was wondering what songs any tool fans thought should definately be in the setlist. We are gonna play for about an hour and a half. We already know: (Chrono order)
Sweat
Opiate
Intolerance
Prison Sex
Sober
Stinkfist
46 & 2
Aenema
The Grudge
Schism
Lateralus
Vicarious
The Pot

We can play more than 90min if we want to.
Suggestions?

"Pushit". Do the live version with the tabla.

I'm a fan of their cover of "No Quarter" too.

god i hate tool.

but, if you wanna do a 90 minute set, you might as well play the only really good song they ever recorded "Jerk Off"

I don't mind Tool so much, but a lot of Tool's fans are dipshits. The only two bands they ever knew were Tool and NIN. (though I like both as well).. but COME ON.

I do ok with it. DC is my idol, i learned how to play by learning his stuff.. ya'll should come watch and check it out. Our singer is a trained opera singer aka my best bud, and he kills it.

And we do a pretty damn good job of Eanema. The pot is real tough on drums. I have been pushing for the salival version of "push it" but its not top of the list.

I have seen them 25 times, i have a singed Danny Carey stick, I've been totally obsessed for years. I definately wouldn't do it if we didnt sound like em. Obviously no one is make it sound exactely the same, but we're getting pretty damn close.

If you guys come to Manch I will totally come see you guys. Tool is great and I think Ive seen them more than any other band in my lifetime (except for maybe WEEN oddly enough?) fuking awesome!!! Maybe you guys could bring "Undertow" I dig it, it's kinda drony and sloshy but underrated track none the less.

i love undertow. The song and the record. After the years of being obsessed over ridethelightning/masterofpuppets/justiceforall "undertow" was the first non-metallica thing that really got my attention, and held it.

well, he's amazing in a different way. I am not impressed with his double bass, or his speed, and thats what your average non-drummer is impressed by. Its his touch, his ability to play a three part poly-metric measure with varying accnets. His power in addition to his control is phenominal, but again its not for the reasons that impress most people. He is, in my opinion so fantastic because of his feel.

fair enough...
i just find tool to be pretensious and overrated, and far to artsy.

i find minimal skill in danny's playing, and think his material is really just flashy, well disguised, minimalism.
he's not a bad drummer.
he is just given far too much credit.

right! Man I am fucking psyched to go to the brew store and pick up some grains. We are getting the grains right? You got the hops from your friend, and do you have yeast that you've already cultured, or do you want us to bring some by? I guess we mine as well bring over a cultured one, and maybe some fresh wet/dry ones so we have more choices. We are probably gonna do the same with grain, bring a good amount of a variety so we can decide based on whatever whackyness we wanna throw in. We are gonna char some woodchips this weekend for it as well.

Definitely gonna be the EVILEST beer ever.

I dont mind Carey. I prefer drumming like his to people who are just stupid fast like Flo or Roddy. Being fast is great and all, but that shit kinda doesnt impress me.

you can bring anything you want, besides hops...i have so much hops.
i do have cultures yeast...but bring some more if ya want.
and definately get some grains.

like i said, i was thinkin, we should make ten gallons of beer, and split it into two brew buckets.

that way, we can do two of the same batch, with two different yeasts.

or we can get creative and make two different beers!

i'm down for anything bro.

i will supply one fermentor, you should bring one as well

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 10,2008 4:31pm
i'm gonna need to purchase some of this brew upon completion.

toggletoggle post by orgymf@work at Sep 10,2008 4:33pm
it will be pretty insane.
hey Jim....why don't we bottle one half of the batch, then keg the other half and throw a party, so everyone can get hammered on our homebrew.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Sep 10,2008 4:39pm
i think thats a great idea. Maybe do the party at my place, and have our bands play. I been seriously getting close to having shows at my place, and i think when our first brews done would be the perfect time. We'd get to showcase our beer, and our bands.

toggletoggle post by orgymf@work at Sep 10,2008 4:40pm
sounds fucking amazing!

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Sep 10,2008 4:45pm
and if anyone really wants to try any they will have to come to the party (maybe show) because i for one do NOT sell the beer i make, not yet at least. Its all R&D. Once we get some good diverse recipes, we will start microbrewery. The great thing about that is that you don't need a certain amount to start building a reputation. Just a couple dozen cases here and there marketed to the "hip-er" bars in town that deal with microbrews. IE: Bukowski's, Public House, Sunset, etc.. And when beer conventions come into boston/providence/worchester we will make sure we rent a table so that the real beer connoisseurs can try it. Once we get the word out, we spend a little money on a bigger fermenter, and suddenly we start making a little profit.

This isnt just a dream, or wishful thinking. I AM going to start a microbrewery.

nice..... we gotta think of a way to incorporate "orgy" into the brewery title. We were gonna be "Logos Brewing". Where the logos is the alternate plane of existence that you get to when imbibing certain hallucinogenic concoctions. Maybe "Logos Orgy Brewing" or "Orgy of Logos Beers"
