Want 20 bands, and it'll cost each band $75 (this is enough to get artwork done and get 1000 cds printed with 11x17 posters from discmakers, upc bar codes and spine labels). I'm not making any money out of this, it's just something I feel like doing. I have not yet decided how many copies of the cds and posters to give out to the bands. It depends on what I can find for distro and to get some in smaller stores around here, but it'll probably be around 40-50 each band for cds and 15 for posters. I already have an idea of what bands I'd like to put on this, but I'm only looking for death metal, not grind, deathcore, etc.

Get a package deal going with the DVD...that shit be straight cash, homie.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Aug 19,2008 10:31am
it should be nothing but blasting/slamming gore death. i would totally buy one of these.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Aug 19,2008 10:33am
It's not stuff from the New England Death Fest, so it's not gonna be with the dvd for the fest. I'll take any kind of death metal, such as melodic, gore, slam (but not wigger slam), tech, etc.

haha, "wigger slam."
Now, I do know what that is and what it sounds like, but I don't understand the history of it.
Someone explain?
Like around what time did Wiggers get into "death metal." And why?

toggletoggle post by Hungtableed at Aug 19,2008 12:51pm
If it happens, BDUSSY should get on this. I'd write a song especially for a comp. that's ig'nant as fuck.

Hardest advice ever:

Make sure quality is high or it's junk within 3 weeks.

I was reading Game Informer on the shitter earlier and they listed the track list for Rock Band II. Abnormality "Visions" was under such. Fuckin' awesome!

Basically, Slam Death was invented by NYDM acts such as Suffocation, Obituary (to a degree), Baphomet (also to a degree), Internal Bleeding, and other bands that incorporated a groove into their DM sound. Others included Repudilation, Dehumanized, Disfigured, Entorturement, who are all from NY, and of course who can forget Eternal Suffering from Ma. However, it was Devourment that took the slam riff and ran with that as the main driving force of their sound. Molesting the Decapitated is pratically the bible of the slam movement that soon followed. You had TXDM bands like Prophecy, Malthusia/Pogromy, and Sect of Execration. Globally, bands cropped up such as Soils of Fate from Sweden, and of course there's a huge slam death scene in Japan; with Vomit Remnants being the first slam/groove death from that region (in my opinion). If you ask me, the whole wigger aspect seems to stem from Japan (jiggers?), because they're into western hip-hop, but they love brutal music and those beatdown slam riffs (see disconformity for example). Since the slam riff has a certain groove, it's labeled as wigger Death Metal by old school purists. Entorturement were classified as "wiggers" I believe, and they even covered a rap song, which eludes me at the moment.

could Boarcorpse be on this? Our new stuff (NOT OUCH) is definatley considered deathmetal. This would be a great reason to finally pay for the good recordings we've been wanting to do.

BaphOmet weren't as slam as say Suffocation, but should definitely be credited as pioneers of the sound that would subsequently follow. Dying Fetus have used slam riffs, and have also covered Baphomet, but compared to say Eternal Suffering, Repudilation, Internal Bleeding's Voracious Contempt, or Devourment? To a lesser degree. Purification Through Violence was their slammiest, and I don't know what newer Fetus sounds like. To me, Fetus has a touch of hxc in their sound, as opposed to the aforementioned bands that are unabashedly slam ridden.

Baphomet -> Morpheus Descends -> Suffocation, and what defined it wasn't groove but the tendency to use hard stops on muted chords. The groove part came later.

toggletoggle post by MikeofDecrepitude at Aug 19,2008 3:51pm
Yes, the slam riff is palm muted and creates a sound that some refer to as "jun jun" or "dun dun"; your preference. I was just giving a general background that led up to the incorporation of the "wigger" label; for I could have mentioned a ton of other bands. Let's put it this way, when the average metal fan thinks of the originators of slam, it isn't Baphomet they think of, but Suffocation, and that's just how it is. Liege of Inveracity is the track that gets referenced a lot for having that defining slam section. Slam technically creates a groove, but again this is why I mentioned bands like Repudilation and Disfigured. I can't formulate with words how the riffing style goes, but if you've heard those two bands, you'll know what I'm talking about. Those groove riffs are separate from the palm muted slam riffs. Call me crazy but some of those Repudilation grooves I'm referring to almost reminded me of Korn, at points.

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 19,2008 4:26pm
Yes, I understand the story behind NYDM and the "slam/groove" aspects of certain bands - the only piece of the puzzle that was missing in my history was when the word "wigger" started being attached to it. Thanks for the history lesson.
I've avoided Wigger Slam like the black plague.

You aren't crazy. The bulk of the genre reminds me of Korn and nu-metal.

I've got a solo project that I'm currently turning into a band, it's kinda like melodic progressive metal I suppose. Would that be what you are looking for? I could show you a recording or two.

Those two demos were awesome. Totally underrated. Also, someone needs to do a proper Headrot comp. cd.

Archaeon, BDUSSY, Dysentery, and Composted can all definitely be on. Karnivean, Boarcorpse, Withered Sun, I'd have to listen to all of you. I also have to listen to Embrionic Death and Disgorged (though I swear I've heard both before). Fleshfries-definitely show me some tracks. Sounds like some good stuff.

By wigger slam I mean Waking the Cadaver shit.
By melodeath, I mean the good kind like At The Gates and really, really old Soilwork (The Chainheart Machine era), not the BDM, metalcore type.

And Blue, I'd also love to throw Parasitic Extirpation on this. What do you think?

Disgorged, I haven't heard that name in awhile. Early NYDM w/ Dave Culross, right?

You sir, are correct. They totally ruled, but became crap when some members formed Withered Earth. They sucked.

Both bands mentioned (Embrionic Death and Disgorged) were not in reference to the NE comp. cd. It was just off topic stuff between geeks.
