Lead guitarist/vocalist James Malone offers this band update:

"Although we had a great run over the past year and a half with drummer Darren Cesca [whose work is featured on the band's latest album, We Are The Nightmare], we have decided to stop working with him in ARSIS. The reasoning behind this decision is simply differences in personalities and an overall difference in direction. Darren is an amazing musician and we harbor no ill feelings towards him. We wish him all the best. We are most excited to announce that Alex Tomlin, a long time friend of ours and an outstanding drummer, will be replacing Darren. His first shows with us will be on the 'In Thrash We Trust' tour starting this Wednesday. Come out and support ARSIS and the new addition to our line-up!"

Not sure how I missed that. This seems to happen to Darren a lot. His drumming on We Are The Nightmare was pretty awesome. I want to hear the new guy now.

What band is Darren going to join/leave next? I just wanna see more Goratory!

I've heard that he's difficult to work with in a band situation.

Backed on the Goratory idea. Hey, what ever happened to the show that was to take place this summer?! :(

I heard that he's going to be doing like instruction videos or something

this happened awhile ago Pete.
Waiting the day for Goratory to rehearse for NRW in our space....

i hear he was just going to do studio work for a while... internet rumors...

toggletoggle post by Kadooganaut at Aug 13,2008 7:54am
I heard he wouldn't face me in a drum-off. He knew what he was up against...

I'm kidding, of course. He had NO IDEA what he was up against achachachacha

He always had his head stuck up his ass and believed that he was not influenced by any ever, yet he plays in metal or open metal bands. I know this from playing shows with him and just talking to him. He is so stuck up it is rediculous, he does not even humor people....

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 8:22am
well i know when i chatted with him about his trigger module (Alesis DM5) he was friendly and really helpfull with how to put the settings, and he was really friendly to me. Seriously a nice guy.... but when speaking with Noah/James they said pretty openly that he was a total duchebag. It was kinda strange, for them to say that to just any fans chatting with em, they musta been REAL pissed of at the guy. The even said back then that he "Wasn't gonna last that long" and apparantly most of the people in the country tell them that they "Don't like the drumming on the new record because they think its just too much". I guess i could understand that, although i really dig "We are the Nightmare".

there are a lot of people in this world who are great 1 on 1, but are totally different in a band situation. I've heard millions of disaster stories (mostly involving drummers) that go from the argument leading to someone traveling in their own vehicle to leaving the band based solely on an argument about brendan fraiser's acting abilities.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 9:24am
wow... I guess Darren is a great example of just that rev, cause like i said, he was suprisingly nice, especially with someone with as abrasive a personality as i have.

And like i have said before and i will probably say forever... and they will continue to prove for me:
By and Large, drummers are idiots, duchebags, premadonnas, and just plain old dick heads. Although when you find one who isnt one or ALL these things, they are usaully really interesting people.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 13,2008 9:26am
by and large, the good drummers are insane and usually sociopaths. if they aren't, then they aren't good drummers.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 9:28am
Well... I guess i lose either way cause i think i am good... and i try and convince myself i am not a sociopath, although the long list of people i've hurt would probably disagree.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 13,2008 9:51am
there are only like 3-4 nice guy passes allowed in the drumming world. I'm pretty sure that derek roddy has been killing other drummers off in some sort of drummers version of highlander. one of the nicest dudes.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 9:58am
you saying that you can't survive as a nice guy in the drumming world? I think the drumming world is pretty cut-throat, but mostly because if someones better than you your band will most likely ditch you for them given the chance. Understandably so. When a band has a bad drummer, or even a not fantastic drummer EVERYONE notices. Drummer makes a mistake at a show, the ENTIRE room grimaces.

And strangely enough, i've noticed that most of the real good drummers know they are real good and have a relaxed confident disposition which translates into coming off as nice.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 13,2008 10:01am
no, im saying that there can be only 3-4 people in the world that are good drummers and break the rules I mentioned.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 10:04am
oh.. well i should stop making generelizations.. The fact that i am a drummer will only prevent people from being offended until they realized that I accept that i am most of the shitty things i am calling them....
haha

Remember that time you tried to meld into one being with me on the baystate rock board? Don't worry, you're a good drummer, and you're also batshit insane. As you said yourself, you need to be one to be the other.

As for Cesca, I didn't mean for this to turn into a bash Cesca thread. I am more interested in the new guy that will be playing for Arsis.

Don't worry, Jim, I still love you. I just won't take my pants off next to you in the locker room.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 12:59pm
Dont fuck around man, since the "incident" you haven't even WENT IN the locker room when i've been in there. If it scared you so much, you should have never brought the duct tape and all the extra thick honey you love so much.

I have met a lot of drummers and guitarist etc.. and mostly I find the all musicians are assholes and the assholes are the ones you feel are thinking they are better then you, even without knowing you. Where as when you meet another drummer, they are good at how they play for themselves and not how others care! You can tell right away of other drummers who are full of themselves when they dont want to be friendly...... Or jsut seem to be focused on what they need to do! I find there are a lot of nice drummers and musicians in the NE scene! hey who is to say I am always right, i could seem to be an asshole to one and not the other? Oh welll... deal with it and go practice!!

toggletoggle post by alexc  at Aug 13,2008 4:18pm
just f.y.i. alex tomlin is already done with arsis on account of james malone being a huge fuckface.

toggletoggle post by contagion   at Aug 13,2008 5:27pm
ive heard darren was hard to work with musically on top of being pretty full of himself. hes a berkely grad, he knows how good he is, it comes with the territory. however, i will say that when bands write music, its riffs then drum beats in that order. when you write a riff, you have drums in mind. someone who has a degree in drumming would probably default to the position of I am a drum master i know more than you i will play whatever the fuck i want because its better than your lame idea for that riff. its one thing to offer ideas, its another to refuse to humor the band on their ideas. i dont think a band like arsis who are already established and can easily find a guy like marco pitruzella or whoever to sign on and hammer out beats with no complaint have any interest in dealing with a headcase.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 13,2008 5:34pm
i agree..... arsis should have me play for em... i god damn love that band. I can play most of thier releases.... unfortunately not the stuff with darren His shit was just wierd. I like the record a lot, although most of the non-drummers i know say its too much for them, and i can hear that too, it doesnt have that same awesome ass kicking thrash quality that all the old stuff had.
