I am doing a Radio Show on Friday 8/8/08 from midnight to 3am.
It is on 90.3 WRIU and you can listen to it online.

http://www.wriu.org/

I am doing a three hour show based on Les Légions Noires (The Black Legion).
It was an Underground Black Metal / Dark Ambient circle in France that
took place in the early 90's, between a bunch on musicians in France.
What made it really interesting to me is that the members made a mixture
of Black Metal and Dark Ambient demos/releases, and traded them with
each other. They did not release them publicly and to this day, most of
them have not. Their stuff is only available through trading / downloading
or by purchasing bootlegs.

The Black Metal is very raw - both in style and due to the inherent nature
of recording rehearsals and low fi recordings. The Dark ambient is interesting
to me in that it is done from the point of view of a metal musician, and I feel
that it shows. It is harsher in its presentation, but not necessarily in sound.
Very depressive and lonely. In their effects.

Many of the bands / artists / projects listed below feature different people that
resurface in more than one thing. The same person might have 2 solo projects
and perform with 3 other bands. I find this interaction to give all of these releases
a common energy.

I have enjoyed digging all of these up, and it took quite a bit of time to get
all of these releases. i'm exited to do a show based on this.

in addition to the Black Legion, I will mix in some associated bands from
France, and some similar French material - even if the members did not
participate in the Black Legion Circle.

Below is a list of the bands I will be using in the show. I am still working
on it so I will probably edit this post now and then.

Thanks for putting this on.

toggletoggle post by demondave at May 18,2009 11:16pm edited May 18,2009 11:20pm

Okay, here's the show. I have it divided into 4 parts. It's almost 4 hours long.

I'm remembering that weekend now. It was during the New England Death Fest. I was up for almost 18 hours by the beginning of the show, and I had driven down from Providence after drinking at Jerky's with my wife and Rich Horror. You can tell that I'm tired at different points. (I was sucking on Red Bulls the whole time).

It was so much fun, and here it is complete with rambling descriptions of the French scene and shoutouts to Return to the Pit.

The set list is above, and I hope you enjoy it.
