Ok, so I read that you dont need a passport to drive into canada (at least for now). Do you need a passport to drive BACK INTO the US?

I'm hoping I'll be able to goto one of the Summer Slaughter Canada shows next week. Keeping my fingers crossed.

its a good idea to get a passport but if not the just present your drivers license and birth certificate and if you're real shady then they may ask for another form of ID like soc sec card.

It was my experience that getting in to Canada was pretty easy, they just asked for my license and where i was going. Coming back i got the third degree. they searched my car, asked for all my ID's ran a background search asked me a ton of pretty personal questions. It took like 15 minutes before they let me through.

If you're thinking of bringing anything across the border....don't chance it. They'll find it.

well..we just got back from canada..you should be fine...if you have your birth certificate to go along with your driver's license, that would be good enough. Aaron only had his driver's license...and they let us back no problem, he did tell him that as of January 30th you would need a passport or your license AND birth cert, they also gave of a piece of paper that explains it. It was the same thing going into Canada though...

Beginning January 31, 2008, the United States will end the practice of accepting oral declarations of citizenship at the border.

* U.S. citizens ages 19 and older must present documentation that proves both identity and citizenship. Identification documents must include a photo, name and date of birth. View the complete list of acceptable documents at CBP.gov for land travel and sea travel.
* Children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
* U.S. citizens can also apply for a U.S. Passport Card, which facilitates entry and expedites document processing at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The card may not be used to travel by air. Otherwise, it carries the rights and privileges of the U.S. passport book and is adjudicated to the exact same standards.
