That happened to a truck we had. We just got another piece of shit...it was cheaper. lol.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Jul 22,2008 12:27pm
you guys should just tell me all the info and i can send you an estimate it might be cheaper than you think since I have low overhead.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Jul 22,2008 12:29pm
My cousin fixes our car on the cheap, unfortunately he smokes a lot of pot and has serious ADHD so it usually takes a month of stopping by his garage before anything gets done.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Jul 22,2008 12:29pm
and my offer remains ;)

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 22,2008 12:30pm
sounds like a typical mechanic to me

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 22,2008 12:36pm
1558 for a bunch of parts that sound expensive. I just paid the car off that month too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 22,2008 12:40pm
the worst was the driver was wearing more perfume that a french whore. I almost puked. now I have a wicked bad headache, stomach ache, and cold sweats.

hey dude, i'm really considering throwing a whole new engine in my truck sometime. i know of one guy around here that will do stuff like that at his garage at his house for side work. i want to throw a mustang's 302 in it. both engines are exactly the same. how hard do you think that would be?

toggletoggle post by cav nli at Jul 22,2008 1:16pm
rev how much are they charging you an hour for the mechanical work? i can check it here and see if its accurate to your location.

toggletoggle post by cav nli at Jul 22,2008 1:17pm
but yea man, thats how much it costs to replace that part. shits wicked expensive.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Jul 22,2008 1:59pm
lulz

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Jul 22,2008 2:07pm
Don't forget you cna probably knock the platinum out and get a good 150 back on your dead converter too.

truck is kinda vague XD give me more info 302s fit in a lot of cars... do you already have the engine?

metal yards will give you 100 straight up for a converter as is.

Rev I take it you already got this done at the dealer for that ridiculous price...

It is less than one hour of labor on all data.... the part lists for $982

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Jul 22,2008 3:17pm
im sure rev could have gotten it for 300 easy

Last summer, the catalytic converter fell out of my freaking car while I was driving to work. I was at a red light, and all of a sudden... KA-CHUNK! Then, my car sounded like crap and drove like a lawn mower. It was totally awesome driving really slow with the exhaust pipe dragging on the ground. I only paid about $300 for parts and labor to have the new catalytic converter installed.

You can probably find one really cheap online (like on eBay), bring it to your mechanic, and pay the labor costs for them to install it. You could save a ton of money that way. That is, if your mechanic is cool enough to do something like that.

it's a 92 f150. i'd like to find a mustangs engine and swap it into my truck. they're both 302's. i still need to find the engine

just curious but why are you doing this? if you want a fast truck i'd think you have to go bigger than a 302... I would guess your truck is kinda heavy compared to a mustang... i think f150 lightnings have a 5.8... Plus youll need a new computer and more and have less torque then prior. I dunno I'm sure it could be made to work... but seems like and odd route to take.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Jul 23,2008 10:18pm
i know. it's a shitty old truck. it's more of a personal choice than anything else. i don't want to race it or anything. but seeing how it's an easy swap, i figure i'd go for the faster of the two 302's

you need a fucking cat already? jesus.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 4,2008 10:02am
ok, they replaced the catalytic converter. $1180. still the light went on. they ran it through the computer. updated all the software. finally, it was the UPPER catalytic converter that was the issue and not the lower one. they are replacing it for free.

toggletoggle post by OG Loc at Nov 4,2008 5:50pm
alldata tells me this is only a 2 hour job. That's 160 in labor, and 380 in parts at my garage, respectively.

Plus a small upcharge for me having to deal with the shame of driving a hybrid in and out of the bay where friends and familly might see me.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Nov 4,2008 7:22pm
Rev,

Call a scrap yard and buy a used one. It's a LOT cheaper and you bring the part to your mechanic.

I use these frequently. Hope it helps.

Cats contain Palladium, which is VERY expensive and a commodity on the NYSE...prices go up and down. Save yourself the cash and call a scrap yard.

Here's the link to all of the local ones.

http://www.usedpartscentral.com/search_new_hampshire.htm

and this one...

http://www.salvageyards.ws/salvage_yards_in_nh.shtml

Call ahead and give them the year, make and model of your vehicle and they'll tell you if they have one or not.
