They were gypsies; they don't belong in Europe.

They were children, asshole. They had little choice in where they went.

Here's a better question: Why the fuck did they lay the bodies out on the beach under towels?

Not only is it morbidly disgusting, but in all sense the bodies should have been removed from the water and taken somewhere else. They were children, which in a humanistic sense makes the scene even more tough to digest.

As for the reaction of the people at the beach, the marginalization of certain individuals within cultures makes the deference of those within that society a psychological and/or emotional grab bag. Some people internalize these feelings, considering the livelihood, or mere existence of some others as bothersome and even for some a nuisance eliciting a 'good riddance' response when such people meet unfortunate circumstances. For others, however, it is less introspective and more culturally-centered, where a scene portrayed in the article seems mundane, perhaps awkward at best because of the dehumanizing or differing of others, a more social choice.

I am not one to judge either way, because I am not a member of an Italian society (or whatever society those people sitting on the beach are a geographical member of), nor understand every reason why people do what they do, but I would be absolutely batshit if I was at the beach and someone placed the bodies of recently drowned children under blankets on the sand waiting to be picked up.

I would also leave immediately.

Again, however, I think the Italian media which seeks to make pariahs of those sitting on the beach continuing to enjoy their day have to take a step back and wonder exactly why some of their own would so passive or disinterested in such an event. Conservationist is most likely correct in that they are/were gypsies, but what that means to those in that area is the problem. Their reactions are simply demonstrative of their formed opinions, just like how those people in New Jersey reacted when that elderly man was struck by a vehicle in the street and just stared at him, writhing and dying in the street.

One thing americans have to understand is that the rest of the world is not like our country. Although we still have issues with racism and violent crimes, it is nothing like other parts of the world. Social vagrants, gypsies, pan-handlers, and foreigners to other countries are very much looked down upon in certain societies. It is extremely prominent in asia, especially in hong kong. Indonesians, Indians, and Filipinos are considered absolute scum over here. Filipino maids and roaming prostitutes are are murdered on a monthly basis over here. That's just they way it is.

This is why I think the rest of the world despises the U.S. We, as a country fail to (or refuse) to understand the way the rest of the world (or certain parts) operate, so we form our own dumbass opinions and stick our nose where it has nothing to do with us.

Lastly, what are the patrons at the beach supposed to do? Get up and leave? Hold an impromptu memorial service? They had nothing to do with what happened. People die everyday. This board is hilarious, I love how you guys pick and choose what's funny and what's not when it involves death. Retards.

BTW, conservationist, those "gypsies" were from Rome, last time I checked that was a part of Europe. Again, retards.

Incorrect, the gypsies are an Indo aryan Hindu tribe that originally came from Northern India. For many years their origins were an enigma but genetic and linguistic evidence proves that they were a Hindu caste from Northern India.

Why they left northern India is still an enigma. Some historians say it was to avoid being enslaved by muslims who they were hired to fight by the Upper Indian castes.

Tourists get stabbed by gypsies and shit. Sure someone died...okay.

People need to die. The earth is terribly overpopulated. Who was it that said "One death is tragic. A million deaths is a statistic." ...Stalin or Mussolini or something? He was right.

Two kids dying on a beach in front of beach-goers is tragic, agreed. Why no one cared? Look at timtirpation's post.

I tell you this, and I'm 100% serious about this here.
I practice swatting gypsy babies out of the air and grabbing my pockets at the same time. If I'm ever in a country like Italy, I'll be fucking ready.

Which is exactly why I couldn't understand why the Italian media made these people into pariahs, when they HAVE TO KNOW that the kids who died come from a sect in their culture that is marginalized and despised. It doesn't make sense.

What? Romania is not a part of italy, if that is what you're saying. It's a completely different country.

toggletoggle post by timtirpation at Jul 22,2008 1:24am
I stand corrected. All this time I thought Roma's referred to people of Romania. After doing some research I am the one who is after all, retarded. All posts I have made in this thread should be regarded as stupid, minus the first one excluding the last sentence, that one stiil stands. CNV was right, I guess I should listen to Paul more often. ha ha.

This all boils down to the ol' class warfare scenario. Ever read crime and punishment anyone?

Cause and effect? Nature vs nurture?

I bet the average american has no idea about indentured servitude and the reality of classism in every country. Equality is a sham. Human nature demands this.
