$150. If I were a righty, I'd buy one. Godlessrob just bought one for a family member and said he's really impressed with it. Just throwing it out there.

how are those douglas guitars? i looked on ebay and they have some decent looking les paul knock offs...and best of all they're cheap as hell... do these things play good or what?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 11,2008 11:03pm
Douglas is the mid range. Sx are the cheapos, and the Agiles are the higher quality ones.

I have this one:

It plays like a dream. I replaced the PUPS, and had to clear a little bit of wood out of the cavity that was blocking the trem a bit. Now, it plays as good as any of my other guitars. The only other changes I made were cosmetic.

I also just ordered one of these:

Don't know if it's a great guitar yet, but for $99 I had to buy it.

shit...i think i might have to get one of these!

that v looks pretty good for $99! do they have em with an all black paint job?

I have an ESP LTD M-302 for sale if you're interested.

Natural finish. And mint.

Hose, how much you want for that?
I want it.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Jul 12,2008 9:04am
I'd want to get at least $300 for it.

If I ebay it I'm gonna ask $350-$400 with the case and the EMG 81.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 12,2008 9:06am
Ill give you 300 and whatever it costs to ship it with the case. Prolly like 40-50 I would think, but fig it out, and lemme know.
Pm me yer address and Ill send you a postal money order monday, pal.

Arrow, how are the floyds on those Agiles?
I was intrigued by those as well, for a learning family member,

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 12,2008 10:18am
The floyd is good, but the routing was a little craptastic on mine. It wouldn't pull up or float right, so i had to trim a little wood away with my dremel. It wasn't a tough fix, and now it is the best feeling floyd I have. Only other issue is that the trem arm got a tiny bit loose in the slot, so I threw a piece of teflon tape on there and now it's fine.

For what they cost, these guitars are pretty awesome. For a learner, they're amazing.

toggletoggle post by GodlessRob at Jul 12,2008 10:22am
I have to say that I am impressed with that guitar. FOR THE MONEY nothing out there is going to touch it. I would say that it is on par with the 5-600$ schecters and the mid range LTDs (which I have both, so I am not talking out my ass!) I got the guitar yesterday, spent 20 min tuning and intonating it (not that my nephew had any idea what the fuck I was doing and yes I explained what I was doing.). I plugged it in and it fucking ripped, I was shocked. It's neck through, the neck is fatter than my Jackson, the frets don't buzz, and it's got a decent acoustic tone. The only thing I would change if it were mine would be to put an EMG 81 in it. I say that only because I have been using 81's since 1987. Other than that, for the money, it's truly one hell of a guitar.
Joey,
what kind of guitar are you looking for and how much do you want to spend? I have something for sale, but it's very much the type of guitar you'd have to BE INTO to want.

nah, not really.

the interceptors are priced almost exactly the same as the MH line, but don't offer quality bridges, pickups, or lifetime warranties.

What's with you and EMGs? With the interceptors you get EMGs on the best couple models (in the $600 range) or you get crappy no-name pickups.

SX is a line a part of the rondo family, basically their introductory models. I have an EX jazz bass, very solid for the 160 bucks i paid for it, although the neck isnt that hot. but then again, its a 4 string neck and i have a 5 string set on it tuned all assy. hah.

the OLPs are liscenced music man knockoffs. great guitars for the money as well. though be warned the quality control is all over the place, so definetly play before you buy. i played 3 different olps (same model) and 2 of them were worthless and one was an absolute gem.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 12,2008 12:25pm
cool, thanks. I went to a GC down here and asked the guitar guy how the OLP 4 string bass compared to the Ibanez, and got this as a response:

"Oh, it compares, mayan."

Agile is the rondo house brand. Sx is actually a whole independent line. They sell them in europe as well. The Douglass guitars are built by Saein guitars (pronounced "shine"). Agiles are 100% rondo's, so you can actually custom order anything you want from them.

SO far I have a brice bass, an agile guitar, have a douglass on the way, bought an SX for my nephew, and got an SX for an employee. They've all come fast, cheap, and they're nice guitars.

Are you the same ArrowHead that posts on the Agile forums? I've been lurking there a bit lately.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 13,2008 4:22pm
yeah, I've been posting on the Agile forums since Blue turned me on to Rondo.

sadly, that natural finish I posted is already sold out, but they have some black ones left.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 13,2008 4:43pm
FUCK! I wanted to get that natural one so bad. Do you think he'll have some more up soon?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jul 13,2008 5:05pm
rondo does a lot of guitars in small runs. sometimes youll see returning models, sometimes you wont. that one i could see them doing another run of them.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 13,2008 6:48pm
since he sold out in a few DAYS, it's likely he'll order more. However, he only really gets around 4 shipments a year, so it may be a while before he gets more.

once he gets a shipmwnt, he seems to only put out a few at a time, so he might well have a few more he's waiting to put out.

With Rondo, make sure you hit that new items page often. He is known to post new shit a few guitars at a time throughout the week. That's how you catch the good guitars like that spad. Those got posted on Wed, and were sold out by the weekend.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 14,2008 11:21am

Just ordered the natural Spad!

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 14,2008 11:55am
Congratulations! The best part is, his shipping takes 2 days, so you'll have it tomorrow or wednesday at the latest.

Now you'll just need some awesome cheap pickups to go with your awesome cheap guitar:

http://store.guitarfetish.com/humbuckers.html

I personally like the fat pats. They're indistinguishable from the Duncan JB in my jackson, but less than half the price. The crunchy rails are also pretty awesome. I've got a fat pat in the bridge and a crunchy rail in the neck on that les-paul copy. I ordered the opposite for my V that's coming, Rail in the bridge and Fat Pat in the neck.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 14,2008 12:31pm
I was thinking of going a bit more expensive in pickups. Especially on the bridge. I realize that I'm not very happy with the X2N in my Schecter so I want something better than that thing. I'll check out that link anyway!

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 14,2008 12:37pm
Unless by "more expensive" you mean active, the GFS are pretty awesome at any price. I was skeptical at first, but the Lil killers in my jackson sounded so amazing I replaced two other guitars with them. As I said, I paid $80 for my Duncan JB, and the $30 Fat Pat is the same pickup. Even the wiring is the same color, which made me a bit happy.

Just avoid the GFS pots and stuff. The pickups are really great. The pots, tuners, and tremolos are not so great.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 14,2008 12:41pm
Well, by "more expensive" I mean high end/trustable quality. I suppose I could do my research on this Guitar Fetish stuff but I might be looking at something like a Super Distortion or something generally like that. This guitar probably won't be for metal so I don't need ridiculous output. I want something on the warm end but sensitive enough that I can still pinch and do harmonics with ease. I don't know much about pickups, it seems.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 14,2008 1:05pm
With the GFS PuPs, the Fat Pat is a Duncan JB. The Crunchy Pat is your dimarzio super distortion. I really endorse these PuPs. I was so mad when I bought that Duncan, and a week later bought a $30 pickup that was exactly the same sound.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Jul 14,2008 1:09pm

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 14,2008 1:10pm
I'll take your word for it, then. I'll keep looking. I hope one day to own a guitar with Bareknuckle or APC pickups but I don't think I'd waste that money on this guitar just yet. Especially since I just ordered it about an hour and a half ago!

I don't think it's newly updated however.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 14,2008 1:17pm
The new items page gets updated several times a day. Most people just don't notice.

It appears that he moved the spads off the new items page, not sure why. They're in the electric guitars list, but they're not in new items anymore.

Also, make it a point to go to the main site www.rondomusic.com and type "B Stock" in the search bar. When he DOES post them, they go fucking FAST. He'll knock like $100 off a guitar because of "light scratches on the pickguard".

I always check for B Stocks twice a day. That's how I just got that V for $99.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 14,2008 1:19pm

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 14,2008 1:23pm
Lol that natural Spad just looks so beautiful. Even if it ends up not being a great guitar, I will still own a looker. I'll still use it for Rock Ensemble at school, though. The other douchebag guitarist in the ensemble is a Les Paul fag. He sucks the Les Paul guitar dick and the Fender amp clit. He always talks about how his Les Paul hollowbody is the best guitar in the world and his Fender halfstack is priceless. Fuck that guy. I just spent 150 dollars for a fucking beautiful guitar. Haha.

Anyway, I can't wait to get this just to play a different guitar. I've been playing my Schecter for almost 8 years now. I haven't had another guitar besides acoustics since I first started playing guitar. My Schecter is a 25.5'' scale so I'm curious to play this smaller scale Spad.

Woo-HA! I've got my new guitar, and it's pointy as shit!

The fretboard is a bit squeaky, but I've been oiling it up nicely and it's getting better. This thing needed A LOT of WORK. I'm not trying to scare you, martins, but the douglas is in NO WAY comparable to my Agile guitar. I had to swap PuPs, Polish all the frets, replace the input jack, and it could still use better tuners, pots, and bridge.

The good news is that it PLAYS now, it sounds killer, and it was cheap as fuck.

Sound Clip
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songI...fo.cfm?bandID=726882&songID=6722845

All on the bridge pickup. I've got a GFS Crunchy Rail in the bridge, and a GFS Fat PAT in the neck. I [heart] GFS pickups.

Nah, I basically got it as a project guitar and if it takes some work...it takes some work. It will be at my doorstep tomorrow so I'll take some pictures of it then. I'm really excited. I'm sure the Douglas would be quality enough..........I hope.

I think that in the next few months I might throw down for a Septor 6 or 7. I've been wanting a 7 string but I'm not sure if I'm ready...know what I mean?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 1:28am

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 16,2008 1:30am
From what GodlessRob says, it played readily after a small set up so I'm not too worried if my spad was in the same batch as his. I'm going to take another look at the GFS's but I was wondering if you could give me a small but more thorough review on them in general. I hate spending money on something I know not-enough about.

There's a sound clip right above^

Also, you can always email them at guitarfetish, they're really cool about helping people pick out pickups. Tell them what you want, and they'll suggest what models.

Also, here's a clip of a guitar using the opposite setup, a Fat PAT in the bridge and Cruncy Rail in the neck. Fat PAT is the same idea as a duncan JB.

For that second sound clip with the Fat PAT in the bridge, how high do you have the gain set on your amp? I like the sound of Fat PAT a lot but I wonder what it would sound like in higher gain applications.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 1:32pm
The gain is set high, but the volume on the guitar is cranked down for a lot of it. I can whip up a new clip for you later on some metal stuff.

I just found out that my Schecter is set-neck construction as well when I emailed Schecter. All these years I thought I was playing a neck-through. Oh well. I'm really excited for this Douglas and I have a feeling it's going to sound better than my Schecter.

Im aware of the diff between caps, and veneers, and photo tops.
But then on the al3000 they say REAL maple cap, not a photo top.

So which is it on the 2000? a photo top or a veneer?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 3:05pm
no photo tops, all are real caps, just different thicknesses.

Martins, here's that clip of the Fat Pats. The first time through each riff is a Seymour Duncan JB pickup. The second time through each riff is the GFS Fat PAT.

http://www.rondomusic.com/alspec.html

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 16,2008 9:18pm
Wow, the second part of each riff sounds super inexpensive!!
LULZ
Actually I do hear a difference, but not a 600 dollar difference,
Id say the Jackson sounds a bit fatter, maybe like 35 dollars fatter tho.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 9:53pm
The jackson has a little more low end, and the gfs have a more aggressive midrange. At a difference of $50 each, it's not really much difference though, eh?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 10:09pm
Oh, for the record I should mention: Besides the different guitars/wood/etc... the Jackson is wired without a tone circuit. The Agile is wired normally.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 16,2008 10:27pm
Not much diff at all.

No tone circuit=tone at 10, correct? So that shouldnt make much diff. Splittin hairs, only one hair is 1200 and one is 200. Crazy.
Im sold.
I been reading the shit outta that site. Pretty fuckin impressive. If I didnt own some 'nice' guitars already, I might feel a little weird about buying one of these, but I do own 3 'nice' guitars already, so fuck it.
That tiger eye is eyeing me.

Im having a more difficult time choosing my daughters tho.
I like the no-nonsense of the lp jr copy, but want a humbucker instead of the p90.
Dont want her to have a trem, as I feel it distracts a LEARNING guitarist, and am concerned that the weight of the lp may be too much for her.(shes turning 13) so, any suggestions? I am a firm believer in dues, and paying them early, to give a strong foundation for later, in anything, but especially music, so nothing too fancy.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 10:47pm
I bought my nephew the SX short scale strat off the first page. I just held onto the trem bar, so it's essentially a fixed bridge til I decide he can handle a whammy without snapping off all his strings playing "guitar hero". If you want her to have a bucker, that natty spad that martins just bought is pretty awesome. It's essentially a schecter blackjack for $150.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 16,2008 10:48pm
no tone circuit = tone at 10+. Just having the circuit there, even dialed to 10, tapers off a little top end.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 16,2008 11:14pm
Ya that Spad is real nice.
Maybe even too nice for a first guitar, but I will strongly consider it.

Holy shit. There's like no difference. I think I might go with the Fat PAT in the bridge...but what should I go for if I want a warmer sounding neck?

Question for you. You seem like you would know. I haven't looked at how to wire a pickup since I did my Schecter almost two years ago. If I wanted to wire the tone knob out, would I just solder the two wires that would have been for the tone knob together?
I think I want to do that and then move the volume pot down to where the tone knob is now and just leave the tone knob on connected to a pot that isn't in use.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 17,2008 2:08am
brian_dc (nice name I myself am a Brian), that guitar looks pretty nice. I love the look of natty's but i FUCKING HATE THAT NECK. I had to say it. Maple fretboards are one of the ugliest things to happen to guitars. I just can't stand them. Maple neck okay...though I'd prefer a darker wood...but stay away from my fretboard!!

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 17,2008 2:21am
Yeah, I just wired up the scheme from the seymour duncan site for three humbuckers (1 HB and 2 stacked rails) with a push pull, and left out the tone circuit.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 17,2008 2:22am
So I would just solder the two wires together instead of hook them to the tone pot?

Also which is supposed to give the brighter sound: higher resistance pots or lower resistance pots?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 17,2008 2:31am
You just don't wire the tone pot. The wires on the tone pot is a hot from the volume pot and the output, I believe. It's late, don't hold me to it. I'm pretty much a dumbass unless I download a schematic.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 17,2008 2:34am

Different strokes, I suppose. I love the maple neck. And a maple neck on a Les Paul style guitar is such a different look, it's one of the things that attached me to this guitar.

I played one awhile back and loved it but forgot what the hell model it was called....probably on purpose since I was hell bent on a new amp Then recently I noticed Sacha from Intronaut playing one. He posts on Lambgoat so I was able to ask him what model it was...and now my obsession has rekindled...the end

I ordered a Douglas Shadow (csb) for the kiddo. Its alder so its a bit lighter, and for the price, is a SWEET first electric.

I also could not resist getting the Agile AL-2000 tiger eye.
Now It needs to get here so I can get off that damn website for a few days!! hahaha.

I cant link pics on ps3 (gay) but Two sweet looking and hopefully playing, Les Pauls, shipped, for $349!!!
WHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT????????

Haha. I hate the look of those Les Paul styles. I don't know what it is but the fat body and pick guard really turn me off. My next guitar from them will be the Septor 6 or an Interceptor 7 string. I'm really surprised by the decent quality of this Douglas so I'd definitely be interested in seeing the quality of an Agile.

Here are some pics of my Douglas.

hahaha 10 years ago I wouldve agreed 100%, but I have owned almost every shape of guitar there is, and never a LP, so this is a good choice for myself.

How many days did it take to get to you, and where do they ship from?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 17,2008 10:38pm

But its purple.
says it has a 1/4 inch chip on the upper back.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 17,2008 11:06pm
Yeah I saw that but I can't throw down that money right now. I need to do all the mods to this one first. If I buy a seven string it will be after my family forgets that I bought a guitar. (They take my money very seriously.)

Anyway, they ship from New Jersey I think. It took 2 and a half days for them to ship. Once you get the UPS tracking number it's about a day away. Well maybe two days for you.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 18,2008 1:55am
They ship from NH. They used to be in NJ, but they moved a while back.

I'm glad your guitar is nice, I can definitely understand wanting to mod it out and swap hardware. That's the beauty of this price range, a lot of alterations we'd normally avoid become affordable. I can NEVER stand to leave a guitar 100% original.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 18,2008 2:06am
Ya, I'm pretty happy. I'm putting new strings on it tomorrow and I think I'm going to order the pickups as well. What would you say to a fat PAT in both the bridge and the neck?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 18,2008 6:24am
That would sound pretty good. I've got a Fat PAT in the neck of my V, it sounds good.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 18,2008 3:25pm
Well I ordered two Fat Pats with the chrome cover plate and all the hardware except for mounting rings. Now I just need to find reasonably priced chrome tuning machines and mounting rings!

Oh I went 1-meg ohms with the volume pot. I can't wait to hear how bright it's going to be because this guitar is pretty damn warm sounding. Almost too warm.

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Jul 18,2008 4:19pm
These Rondo guitars have me intrigued. Curious guys, how would you compare these DFS pickups to say an EMG81... I'm thinking of building some crunchy shred machines out of an Agile or Douglas. These guitars almost seem too good to be true.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 18,2008 4:25pm
My experience around EMG pickups (I've never owned any or really spent time messing around on them) isn't the best. I just never liked them. OMG CHECK OUT MY WICKED OUTPUT AND SHIT. Oh, okay.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 18,2008 11:22pm
EMG 81 has great attack.
Its for metal. thats all, their 'tone' is pretty horrible for anything else.
But they rule for chugga riffs.

You guys are just JB sluts!!

Keene NH UPS destination scan 25 hours after I ordered. Thats fuckin fast.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 18,2008 11:46pm
I'm not even a Seymour Duncan kinda guy. I have DiMarzios in my Schecter. This will be my second experience with non-stock pickups and I can't wait because I'm a nerd and shit.

Oh and if EMG 81 is metal and all metal is gay then all EMG 81's are gay.

I use dimarzio X2N's in the bridge. Mega high output and very very low noise. That means they did something right! Sounds killer too.

I am debating on selling one of my soloist to help pay for the shit I am doing with NEDF. Killing me and crunch time is here!

My main guitar for 15 years or so has an 81 and an 85 in it. I was never all that impressed with them, but since it was all I knew I never knew WHY.

After I popped a JB into my jackson, and started playing with all these other options I'll never use an active pickup again. It's like all these modern albums: You get a way WAY hotter signal, but at the expense of all the wonderful dynamic range.

Now, I really see NO difference between using EMGs and just sticking a compression pedal in front of your amp. I'm going to refrain from doing either.

thank you. 9 times out of 10 people use EMGs just cus its what everyone uses for metal. different guitars = different pickups. why cheat yourself on tone and just cram the same thing in every guitar?

I have an X2N in my Schecter's bridge and I definitely don't know what you're talking about low noise haha. That thing has a higher output than Mark Richard's mom and I always get feedback. Even through low gain Fenders amps. At least it's not microphonic. It's a pretty good pickup but it lacks a lot of dynamics. It picks up everything you do but it's not necessarily warm or necessarily bright...it's just there.

Which is why I'm excited to get the Fat PATs if they're anything like what ArrowHead is saying.

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Jul 19,2008 12:09pm
interesting. I never get any feedback. Thats what I mean by quiet. I really have to provoke my guitar to get feedback.

If you wanna be a pick up snob I suggest bare knuckle pick ups. amazing but real expensive.

toggletoggle post by NoodleFace at Jul 19,2008 12:24pm
If you want something better than BKPs you could try Lundgrens too, I think they're $300-400 per pickup.

Personally I've had a ton of different pickups. I mainly use Dimarzio's now but that's because of the woods in most of my guitars. I had EMGs once and they were alright, I just didn't like what they did to my tone. Can definitely see why people use them though.

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Jul 19,2008 12:27pm
I remember for like a week straight you loved EMG's, then you plugged back into your passive guitar and never went back haha. I am still not convinced Lungrens are better than BKP.

i can't believe gibson and fender and shit haven't stopped rondo from selling shit....
didn't gibson get rid of PRS's single cutback back in the day?

and the pickups are the same as these other companies probably cause its the 'market basket brand' so you get more for your dollar.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 19,2008 7:57pm
Honestly the pickups that came with my $150 aren't that bad. Clearly they could be way better but they do the job and the guitar already doesn't sound bad.

And there are Gibson and Fender copies made everywhere. It's not like Rondo is anything special for that. It's not like they're slapping the Gibson or Fender name on there.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 19,2008 8:00pm
Rondo has had to alter many guitars already because of trademark issues. The curve on the valkyrie is a little different than the SG, the AL series horns and headstocks had to be altered (for looking too much like gibson), etc....

He currently is changing the headstock on the SX strats because they look too much like fenders.

Woah, just saw this.

Actually I have a question. GFS sells the mounting rings but doesn't have staggered height ones in chrome. The Douglas has staggered height mounts on it now. This is more just out of curiosity because I'm just going to go to a local store and pickup the rings...but would it matter if I were to put just the flat level ones on a guitar that comes with staggered height ones from the factory? Would the pickup just be angled weird?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jul 20,2008 11:43pm
your bridge pickup might just ending up sitting lower than normal. nothing some adjustments shouldnt handle.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 20,2008 11:53pm
that's the flat chromes above. Exactly as blue said, you'll just have your bridge PUP sticking way up. You also may need to bend the rings a little to fit your body.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 21,2008 12:20am
Ah, it just looks like the strings are right parallel to the pickup right now and I just figured flat would make it angle towards the bridge instead of straight up towards the strings.

Hmm, I'll take your word for it but I'm probably still going to go to my local place because I won't have to pay for shipping!
