...because I'm picky.

Does anyone else take their sweet ass time finding a new axe?

I'm mainly looking at Ibanez JS series but i dont want the cheap js100 and i dont want to rake out $1000-1500 for a js1000 or js1200.

Looking for something with a thin body, thin neck, lightweight and DOESNT have jumbo frets. Any suggestions?

What about just a regular S series? I think theyre medium jumbo.

Why no jumbo frets?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 4,2008 4:11pm
Sg if you dont need a floyd.

Im pretty much sold on 25.5 scale, thin neck, floyd rose, passive pick up, 24 fret, HSS, neck throughs. Wood changes all go with my mood but I always like a nice ebony board. Other than that list I am not terribly picky.

jumbos dont work well with my smaller fingers. i thought saber series usually have jumbos?

that doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like you want a shorter scale than 25.5. The whole jumbo and medium jumbo is only gauging how thick the actual fret wire is which will make no difference in hand size. Scale is distance between frets. Lots of "shredder" guitars that I like have a 25.5 scale while stuff like a les paul has a 24.5 (possibly 24.75, having a brain fart) so there is a little food for thought.

les pauls are 24.75 strats are 25.50 and Prs are 25.00

But either way, Josh is right about the fret size. Usually the bigger they are (Medium jumbo/jumbo), the easier it is to actually fret the note.

Id go with a 25.10, medium jumbo S series.

yeah, bigger frets make it so you don't have to push the string down hard. People discovered that and how you can play faster, then before you know it people were digging into the fret board it's self to further enhance the effect it had on playability. Thats called scalloping. In any event sounds like you dislike a full on 25.5 and should go for a big fret.

yeah it must be scale.

still have no idea what i'll end up buying. older RG's catch my eye. so does the xiphos. idk...

I love my RGT42Fm...81 in the bridge helped a lot tho.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 4,2008 9:59pm
I hadda mod the shit out of it tho, to make it fit, because fucking Ibanez jacks are retaded.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 4,2008 10:03pm
Only thing I dont like on the dx is the fret markers. I like the plain old dots like the fm.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 4,2008 10:04pm
