shitty idea. it takes too long for drilling to make a difference. plus, if they drilled more, we would need more refineries. people that back this are like people who say "there's an AIDS problem? I know how to fix it. see you need to get more people to fuck. nd while we are at it, lets burn all the condoms out there"

Gas prices will NOT decrease, even if this 600,000 acres is raped, so why fuck it up?

Say goodbye to any gulf coast tourism, at the first sight of an oil spill.

There's only one answer.

The tesla roadster.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 22,2008 7:53pm
powerkok, you are a fucking hippie.

basically, the people and countries making all the money don't want to not make money. they use there money to keep the status quo. this will go until there is some sort of implosion in the system. then there won't be anyone making anything from anything.
if the saudis weren't jewy idiots, they would use solar from all their lands and research from their moneys to make some thing that hold the solar power in a solid that can be shipped here and put in cars.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 22,2008 7:54pm
nico fuck you and your never ending pile of money. those things are 48k

But solar cars are slowwwww.

We need an alternative capable of 180+ mph.

They're only 50k now? Holy shit. They're going down. That's like half of what the estimated cost was when it was a concept.

Once the technology they invested in them is paid for, the price will drop and they are working on two other more economic cars. the roadster is kindof a 'look what we can do' car, but I think they are planing on selling the whitestar around 20 k.

True, it will take years to really get a decent amount of American oil into our market, but then just about EVERYTHING that either side of the energy issue is going to take years. There is no such thing as a short term answer that will have any real impact. So, my question is, why not think long term?
You can drill domestically while also building up into stuff like Nuclear, Clean Coal, Wind, Solar and Hydroelectric. Who says you are only allowed to go one way and not the other.

Besides, if we had already started back in the 90s/early 2000s, we might not be in quite the crunch we currently are. It's better then buying so much from overseas, not to mention not drilling is sure as hell not going to stop foreign oil companies from drilling as close to our coastlines as possible without breaking and rules.

I also read that drilling technology is a lot better these days at preventing oil spills. We just had hurricanes blow through the Louisiana coastlines not long ago where there is a lot of off-shore drilling and even that didn't cause an oil spill.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 22,2008 9:39pm
not all oil spills are reported. there are something like 1000 oil spills a year and you don't hear anything about them do you. like McCain said a couple years ago, it would take something around 25 years to get that oi refined and to market.

hydroelectric should be shrunk down to tubes that you can put in the stream near your hours without building a damn. Coal is pretty much dirt no matter what you do. I like my solar idea.

I should make another windmill and see if I can come up with a good enough design that I can power an entire house. My last one powered my welder for 10 minutes at a time on a windy day.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 22,2008 10:40pm
I was looking in to solar power deals. panels are just too $$$ now. there is a printer that can print out solar panels now. they need to make a way to plug them straight into the wall outlets and then you get cha-ching back.

Well I built a windmill at my old house to power my tools and I bet I could have powered a lot more with it. There was an old CB tower in the back yard so I hung a flag from it to see which way the wind usually blows. Figured that out and took it down and started building. I am big into cars and working on them so I always have tons of shit laying around.

I took an alternator and welded a timing gear (small gear) off of a chevy 350 to the shaft on the alternator. I made some brackets and mounted it inside the tower. Right above it I made 3 spots to hold bearings out of an axle housing from a suzuki samurai. I shimmed up, mounted the bearings, slide the samurai axle in place. I welded the large timing gear to the axle shaft and left about a foot of axle sticking out of the tower. I had to cut about a foot and a half off of the axle. I wen to the NB airport and started asking for people with crashed or damaged planes. I found a guy that gave me a 3 blade propeller that had some gouges in it and a few bends. I bent it somewhat straight and mounted it to the axle shaft. Guy gave me the thing because it can never be high speed balanced again so it would tear a planes motor apart. From that I ran a 4 gauge wire down to my garage. Inside I wired it in series to 8 car batteries. So there was no worry of overcharging I hooked up a voltage regulator. When the voltage got too high it would turn on an outlet I wired up. In the winter I would have my little electric heater plugged in, and summer I would have my AC hooked up. I wired up a 220 service to my invention and all was great until I burned out the alternator. I think it lost a bearing and kept heating up.

Mod 2... I took it all back down, went to autozone, grabbed a new GM 1 wire alternator, hooked it all back up but this time I took a disk brake off of a mountain bike and welded it to the axle shaft. I made a quick caliper mount, and ran the cable down to the bottom. I hooked it up to a tech 77 bmx lever because it has a lock. I pull that, and it stops the windmill. No more spinning all the time, only when needed. Since the stuff was rusting bad being open and exposed I painted it all with POR 15. After that I built a quick 20 gauge tack welded box around it to protect it from the elements.

I want to build one along the same lines but also ad a serpentine pulley to the alternator so I can run multiples. I think if I did like 6 alternators and found a better battery supply I could easily power a house.

Used to work with a guy that had some friend down in Texas who started a wind farm. At first he was just powering his house with it, but he ended up with more juice than he could use. By the time the power company frantically attempted to buy him out, he was selling the whole town power dirt cheap. He apparently now sells the juice directly to them, and they turn it around and resell it to the residents of the town at some ungodly markup.

Here's a fucking idea

ditch cars and build cities the right way.

no more of this urban sprawl shit.

concentrate populations in certain large cities, build them so they can be lived in vehicle free, or only requiring mass transit.

and for the people who just like to drive, let them rent cars...it would be a lot cheaper if they just rent a car for a few days and go anywhere they want rather than to own a car and not use it...in the city of the future.

Im talking about replacing cargo trucks with large ships or cargo trains, which would reduce pollution. I was even thinking this yesterday, what if they just built train routes over most major highways...they wouldn't need to clear any more land, and these are convenient routes...but that's if you could get people to give up there cars and use trains.

Here's another idea:

There are too many people, and most of them do nothing important or even good.

Let's get back to a sustainable half-billion.

Here in the USA, we can lose stupid white people, conformist Azns, and all but a few genius candidates in the remaining minorities. That'll take us down to 40 million and life will be a lot better.

Hint: an IQ test that cut off anyone below 115, for example, would do this effortlessly.

Big piles of rotting corpses. I touch myself.

why they want to drill in Alaska is beyond me... besides the fact they are greedy as hell. The crazy thing is, of all the areas leased for drilling, only 30% are being drilled. Why not drill the other 70%? That might make sense though.

though I do agree with the overpopulation issue...

anyone who believes IQ tests are reliable indicators of intelligence is an ignorant man in my book.

Do IQ tests pick up on all the different kinds of intelligence?

You could have the highest IQ out there and still not know how to be a productive human.

I'd much rather have a world full of hardworking honest farmers, builders, and craftsmen than a world full of CEO's, bank managers, and Politicians..

Intelligence and productivity are two different things. The latter you can only measure in real life, as the Khans and Hitlers tend to do ("You are 25... what have you done with your life? Interesting, interesting... Door #2. Next!").

I would rather have a world of higher intelligence people, because with the morons out of the way, we can then remove the non-productive.

There's no one shot pill, and as looking at a world IQ map and correlating to it the countries in which you'd like to live proves, IQ is fundamental in the success of any nation.

Hey, yeah, good idea.
Move all the cities in the world around, and get rid of the transportation providing their sustainance.
Thats shopping S-Mart.

trains and boats would bring in goods, and with people centered in cities it would leave the outlying lands opened up for agriculture and possible future hunting...

and you wouldn't move cities around, you'd move the people into already built cities that were refocused for living ergonomically
