Kind of surprised the Middle East is having Watain back after the blood fiasco last time. Glad they are though. Sent you a PM / email, Robin, but if you check those like I do, you'll notice it in November. Anyways, Ipsissimus would very much like to open this.
Watain, Withered, Cold Northern Vengeance, I dont know who goat catalyst is. We are keep ing tickets down on this one. 15/18 Doors I'll release the on sale in a few days!
Ok can you change the 6/29 Lords thing I asked twice about?
post by Atnastist at Jun 24,2008 6:04am
Withered should not be before CNV... A real black metal band. Witheres is gay. Witch Tomb shouldbe there. Not fake bm Withered
post by C.dEAD at Jun 24,2008 10:07am
I thought Blessed Offal was going to play? Eh, Witch Tomb played the last Watain show, I don't feel it as completly necessary we play again. Though, we most likely wouldn't turn it down.
Tickets aren't on sale yet, room for one more band Ipissimus going to listen right now ABSU didn't jump on the tour. I'll try to let Watain play forever. Withered plays for a while so all you locals added make solid 20-25 minute sets!
The Werewolves of Satan return! After the infamous US tour with Angelcorpse and Nachtmystium in 2007, Sweden's Black Metal tyrants Watain once again set their dreaded course towards American shores, this time descending not only upon the East but also the South and West coasts.
After the release of the monumentally acclaimed Sworn to the Dark in 2007, Watain have been out on the Fuck the World tour, reaching through Europe, North and South America, leaving a trail of blood, fire and tears behind. A tour which have given them the reputation of being an untamed whirlwind of blood and fire on stage, embodying every aspect of true, dangerous Metal. The Black Metal Magic tour in October (alongside Withered and Book of Black Earth) will constitute the last dates of this monstrous crusade, spearheaded by one of the few bands within the Black Metal genre that still evokes true fear, hysteria, forbidden lust and raging chaos...
WARNING: The performances of Watain are widely known to bring forth and include things that may not be appreciated by the average concert visitor. Unholy, disturbing things that have left scars on many a soul, but that have also enlightened and brought great pleasure to those whose hearts burn with the black fires of forbidden hunger. Watain is Black Metal Magic performed in the old and dreaded tradition. You have been warned.

This show will be phenomenal. Seeing them upstairs melted my face to begin with, but downstairs will be absolutely bananas. The difference in sound quality between the Middle East upstairs and downstairs is staggering.
Beyond the Dark Horizon recently caught up with Watain's Erik Danielsson. The following arose…
Beyond the Dark Horizon: Watain has been creating sinister and magical black metal for 10 years now. How has the journey been for you so far?
E: It is getting more and more interesting... While most bands tend to grow softer and lighter throughout their existence, Watain has truly done things in reversed order. How many of the old bands weren't onto something extremely dark and powerful around the time of their first albums, but then got scared away and turned to a softer, more human approach? Now I am not against evolution, all artists of importance need to develop in order not to stagnate and die. But bands playing music of this sort should stick to their fucking guns when it comes to the source of energy from which they draw inspiration. I have a fundamental belief in that there is much more to Black/Death Metal that what people know of today. The reason being is that as soon as bands come in touch with that primeval, malevolent force of darkness that lurks below the surface of this art form, they either get scared and run away, or they turn it into a joke or commercialize it in their lack of insight, respect and understanding. We on the other hand, intend to explore the vast depths of horror and use them in a far larger picture than what has ever been done before. Black Metal has existed for 30 years, but the darkness behind it is timeless. It is time to take things further, deeper...
BTDH: Describe this evolution within Watain that you speak of.
E: Without this kind of mindset and spirit we would not be able to exist in any relevant manner. Watain is constantly slithering through the abyss, constantly receiving and constantly growing in power. Still, the core stays untouched. The hearts that pump the blood throughout the trinity of Watain have always been the same. We are still three members striving for the same thing, willing to sacrifice everything to get it.
BTDH: Watain began and has remained a trinity of members. You have stressed in previous interviews your beliefs regarding the number 3 and the power of this triangle. Elaborate more on the ritualistic magic and meaning that lies within Watain's trinity?
E: The trinity is a very central aspect of Watain, yes. The number corresponds not only with the three members but also with the three consonants and the three vowels of the bands name, as well as the Trident which is our sign. The trident furthermore relates to the letter W, a letter which numerical value is 23 (2 x 3, consonants and vowels). The meaning of the number 3 in religious and magical linguistics is of course vast and corresponds to Watain in most extra-ordinary ways. I have written a lengthier text about this in the reissue of our second album Casus Luciferi which is due to release now in October.
BTDH: You will be headed for US shores in October. Compromises had to be made the first time Watain invaded the U.S., a year and a half ago.
What should we expect this time around?
E: Yes last time was rather unprepared and we could not bring neither our full line-up nor our stage-props in their entirety. This time however, everything shall be brought and the US audience shall for the first time since Venom experience a true Black Metal live show. The knowledge of what that means is restricted to you brave ones who dares to come out to the shows. But count on some heavy fucking metal artillery of the blackest and most vicious kind...
BTDH: What type of reactions did Watain encounter while in the U.S.
previously?
E: I was surprised to see that the US audience was far from the sheep-herd I have had described to me from other less significant bands that had been touring over there before us. What we experienced was a wild bunch of hungry, dedicated metalheads and Satanists who was more than willing to participate in the ceremony.
BTDH: There is always an ongoing dilemma regarding black metal staying underground and not turning commercial. What are your thoughts on this subject?
E: Well, what people tend to overlook is that there's a vast difference between wanting to expand the reach of your art to the far corners of the earth, and turning commercial. The latter implies an intentional adaptment to the preferences of the herd, which is the last thing a Black/Death metal band should indulge in obviously. Unfortunately, many have, and they have led people to believe that as soon as a band takes a step out on the big stage, it means that they have sold out and betrayed their own ideals. This is often right, but in our case, absolutely not. I mean, I don't think neither Venom or Morbid Angel we're thinking so much about what the fans wanted when they recorded "Welcome to Hell" or "Altars of Madness", but these albums sold millions and no one ever complained! That is because what is on those albums is genuine black fucking magic and there is no way one can commercialize such things. All of this can be adapted to Watain as well.
BTDH: Well said. Since we are on the subject of black metal controversies, what are your thoughts on NSBM? It seems like many young bands are jumping on this wagon...
E: I ascribe as much raison de etre to NS Black Metal as to Christian "Black" Metal, in other words: NAUGHT. Black Metal is a cult of Satan, it's foundation is the cultivation of Chaos and Darkness, and no little pimple-ridden internet-nazi movement can change that. Stick to your loathsome punk-music instead, it suits the greatness of your ideals much better...
when Sac was together Mike the guitarist broke his leg and destroyed his ankle, he played with crutches for a while. sometimes he just played sitting down.
I saw Suffocation @Mark's a few years ago,the bass player had a full leg cast on....he played while sitting on a milk crate if I remember right. Ipsissimus must play so if it takes me constructing a throne for you,I'll do it! .....Metal arts and crafts
This will sell out that night probably who knows I'm not a weather forecaster, about 40 or more are sold now, I'll keep tabs for you guys. I know the day of probably 75 people will get tickets at the box office before the show. and over a hundred will show up in line. So I'd say yeah get tickets at mid east box office 1-7pm daily, flyers are everywhere.

"In these days shall men seek Death,

You should have stuck with Graveside Service, faggot.
i used to be in this band GraveSideService and they are really boring and terrible now. They probably only got a guitarist just to to be able to say they have one, as they make him play the same simple power chord in all the songs because the keyboardist wants to get all the attention. Either that or he just can't really play. I saw some of the clips from the AS220 show and it was really, really boring and I couldn't even watch it was so annoying. The vocals suck bad now just a big whining jerkface and the stage setup was same ol same old and the costume the singer wore was embarassing and retarded! really sad. But whatever, I guess they are only doing it because they like it so I just say let em' if it makes them so happy.
mcgunk is not and never was a member of GraveSideService !!
only valid accounts , like mine or "evilflnv" are real band members .
and yes , i'll be at Watain , i have my tickets already thanks to evilflnv for picking them up in advance .

i will try to make it and do any of the bands sell tickets or just box office and ticketcrap! Robin I remember that benediction and Boltthrower show it was sick to sit in front and enjoy it.... great time!!!!!
I will be at this around the time of the first band. I've been closely watching this thread, making sure its not sold out. Coming from NH. I never say what's up to RTTP people besides the Reverend. I will be wearing either a Von longsleeve or a Macabre hoodie, say what's up, lets have a beer.
"You will find that discipline and organization with a bit of a dramatic flair are exactly the things that you need in order to be successful today, dear Pisces. Just because you may need to be practical doesn't mean that you need to be stern and grumpy. Remember that taking care of serious matters can actually be quite fun as long as you maintain a positive attitude toward the situation. A smile can go a long way."
I'll keep that in mind!

man, I really don't feel like driving tonight. Who wants to carpool with me?
Yo a hundred tickets are sold, this wont sell out! So show up all night unless noone buys tickets at metal shows. Ipsissimus is on at 7:15 and Watain made it into the USA!

shit, what's the T stop right near the middle east again??
post by RobinisatMiddleeast! at Oct 7,2008 2:54pm
People are calling in, use www.ticketmaster.com for phone will call orders. The box office is open til 7pm at the middle east today.
Ipissimus: crippled metal. Hail satan for that why don't you! Stepping back from the stage made them sound really good. Otherwise they were too spread out on the stage to hear them properly. They went over a littlde in time, but then they were rushed to fast off the stage.
Blessed Offal: they were a bit slower than I expected. Still good, but I was expecting more DM than a slower BDM band. The took a wicked long time to set up and then really got rushed...
Revocation: jeepers what a response these guys got. These was eveb a mosh pit. These guys were very well suited for the stage. They even had people yelling for another song. With the speakers covered in plastic, they would rip off their shirts and wrassled around on the ground during their set covered in olive oil. Er.. Wait, that didn't happen. No homo.
Cold Northern Vengeance: I thought eric was in eurpoe with grief. Oh well, the song that paul just sang during was very viking metal. Reminded me a lot of amon amarth. I didn't know that keith was on bass. He and andrew dropped their instruments folr the last song and CNV was three members. Their set seemed extremely short. They played 3 songs. viking metal. then black metal. then a bard metal track.
I can't believe out of the whle post you pull out the typo
Book Of Black Earth: what a weird mixture of band members. The drummer from skarp, a guitarist from these arms are snakes. What else? They were pretty much what I expected from them. RIYL nachtmystium. The set was pretty uneventful. The crowd had a huge hole in the middle of it during their set.
Oh man I want some pizza so fucking bad, do you think Watain would call me out for ruining black metal if I went and grabbed a slice? I'm pretty bored by Withered
The sound for Watain was like a cruel joke. Fucking ATROCIOUS. At least they took that fucking delay off Eric's voice after 45 minutes. Last year's show was 1000 times superior.
It also sucked that most ofthe songs were from Sworn to the Dark. It's a fine album on its own, but alongside songs from the previous releases its flaws are emphasised
Same EXACT setlist (ok maybe it was shorter),sloppy / slowed down playing, no blood, no stench, no dead shit on stage, the mic stand looked more like Steven Tyler's than something dreadful and Watainian.
PS- thanks Bob and everybody who bought a CD and/or shirt and got there early enough to catch us.
And a HUGE thanks to Robin for giving us a chance and booking a really fucking killer show. As butt-hurt as I am over Watain's set, I dug the fuck out of all the New England bands and Withered. Book of Black Earth was kinda "meh", but all in all - I had a killer fucking night, despite the cripple factor. Great meeting and hanging with a bunch of you scoundrels. Time to take some pills and sleep the two hours back to CT.
That was NOTHING. I remember being thoroughly violated by the stench last time around. The club already smelled of warm genitals by the time Withered went on. Watain's un-stench merely gave me the sensation of musty incense in some fat goth kid's basement.
There was no stench this time, I don't know what anyone was thinking. Perhaps the residue from their prior shows -- the guitars were covered in crap. Show was good, but definitely stripped down from when they played upstairs, and the sound was the worst I've experienced at the Middle East downstairs. Whoever was working the sound board was a wankery twat.
Having read and eagerly digested the band's own hype and hyperbole, they simply failed to deliver. If fancy tin upside-down crosses, drapes and several unlit candles - oh yeah, and chains - constitute "full artillery", well...
Whoever was working the sound board was a wankery twat.
What was the deal with him coming out and unplugging all of Blessed Offal's shit before they were done playing?
Ipsissimus went over on their time by a few minutes and then BO took a long time to set up. I think he thought they were going to go into another song even though they were 1 minute over their time. all these bands in limited time make for more nazi time keeping. the white dude behind the mixing board had all the power and he's got the pride to do a job right. fascist.
I think the club said no blood and they have been banned from places cause of the blood. but they are terribly kvlt so you think that they would go "ok, no blood" and then dump liquefied sheep brains on the crowd. m... like oatmeal.
good show. saw lots of people I haven't seen in a while.
sound for watain could have been better.
dwyer won't give me sad legend and all the bands were great
i thought watain sounded pretty fucking awesome. the delay on the mic combined with everything else made them sound huge, and wayyy more aggression than the Sworn to the Dark studio recording that doesn't show the real watain. anyway, i got hammered, had an awesome time, unfortunately i didn't make it in time for ipsissimus but i thought BO and CNV kicked ass, i wasn't really into book of black earth but withered was great. good turnout, killer show
that reminds me, there was an unprecedented level of arghoslent shirts/white supremacists at this show.

I didn't see them happen but I did see a few cops questioning a skin.
I heard someone punch a skin or the other way around. not too sure.
post by darkwor at Oct 8,2008 10:25am
some kid who had to be under 21 was seig heiling during revocation and trying very hard to get people to mosh, in an annoying asshole way mind you...i'm pretty sure he got kicked out. whatever. i'm not gonna take my hammer off my neck at because of some nazi douchebag kids at a black metal show.
post by asdgfdd at Oct 8,2008 10:34am
yeah I heard they were the reason watain couldnt use the pigheads...a couple of them gave me their "card" to join their "organization" to help save white people lol....hey did anyone see that one guy outside on the corner? I dont know if he got beat up or was drunk but he was on the ground after the police left.
as much as I'm anti-racism, I'm also pro-1st amendment. if someone wants to be an idiot and seig heil or get swastika tattoos on their forehead, I don't think that actions which don't step on my toes should be handled with an ass kicking. I also find it hypocritical that someone can get in your face and say "I'm a proud peurto-rician" but a white guy can't say that they are proud to be white. with that said, white people are the worst. not that I know any people who aren't white.. but I would say that 99.99% of all the people I hate are white.
I'm pretty sure seig heiling at a show merits a beating.

outside, there was some homeless guy or something shaking everyone's hand before the show. someone threw him down on the ground telling him to not fucking touch him haha
post by dftg at Oct 8,2008 1:07pm
this may have been the most hostile show I've ever been to.
Ahh yes, the goober trying to mosh during Revocation was having his wounds tended inside Burger King as I was picking up hearing aid batteries in CVS. I gave him a very thorough stiff armed salute on my way past.
I was hoping the fight would have been more along the lines of -- Watain Vs. The Middle East. If that were the case, I'm sure the main guitarist would have to do all the fighting. Seriously, 3/4 of that band is like 5'4". Swedes need to drink their fucking milk.
Hahahaha, I did not even read the card. What a bunch of fucking idiots. How hard is it to do a quick spell check, ESPECIALLY if you're distributing propaganda to recruit people into your White Pride organization? They're making white people look stupid.
post by Seth at Oct 8,2008 3:16pm
I wish I saw this little fuck and would of loved to get in on this. Enough shit.. I just want to enjoy the show... and not have to deal with ones views. Hey if he was outside and doing things I can just laugh and walk away. Otherwise it was great to see a lot of cool friends, black, white, yellow etc...... they are all friends!! Great Show!!
post by aril at Oct 8,2008 3:18pm
there was only one blue person there. i think his name was skeeter
post by Seth at Oct 8,2008 3:19pm
Also, mexicans, Russians, Hispanics you fucken name it, i dont give a fuck just have a fucken good time!!
Show was a good time! Lots of fights and mayhem... Watain brings the plague. I thought they were amazing.... I think alot of it has to do with where you are standing in the club. I could hear everything great from where I was standing...
post by Paul CNV at Oct 8,2008 5:08pm
I am pretty sure the voice delays were intentional. I thought it was a cool effect. I was also pissed to the gills on beeyah and jager guy... Fuckin A
I think that you are right. a lot of venues are like that. I thought the echo was intentional. I know that withered got asked about effects on the vocals, they had reverb on the vocals.
Hey I thought it sounded good where I was.
The guitarist kept almost stepping on my hands, and they reeked if you got close enough... but there WAS NO BLOOD!
post by BobNOMAAMRooney nli at Oct 8,2008 11:31pm
I guess I looked too niggerish to get any cards. Oh, if only there were a more inclusive white pride group for dudes like me.
So this show was definitely one of the better things I've seen at the Middle East...the best thing of course was going to the bathroom at a Mortician show and witnessing Will Rahmer locked in a stare down/pose off with himself in the mirror while one of the openers played.
This show was amazing! One of the best I have attended in a long time!
Haha, I wrote that.
post by Apocrypha at Oct 9,2008 11:45am
Watain upstairs was definitely better, but had a blast checking out the other bands. Didn't see any fight. No smiling? Guess nobody told that kid about no mosh.
I do think its funny that 99% of the kids I've met who "hate nazis" say you shouldn't hate anyone and say that anyone trying to take away freedom of speech is a "nazi" and then beat up on kids for saying something they consider racist. if two wrongs dont make a right, what do two hypocrites make?
next up .. amon amarth
post by darkwor at Oct 9,2008 12:03pm
i don't hate nazis. i hate:
1) nazis who can't have a civil discussion about race
2) nazis who are 19 and seig heil during a not nazi band and then push someone to the ground that a second ago was nowhere near them
3) nazis who can't spell things right on their organization's business card
I hate nazi's with bad fashion sense. suspenders and steve urkle pants do nothing but show off your camel-toed tiny white dick. stuff the sack or let go with some comfortable sag.
post by dftg at Oct 9,2008 12:11pm
So it's okay for punks to wear their pants sterilizingly tight, but not nazis? Is this like how it's okay for black people to say nigger, but not white people? And why do you constantly talk about dicks?
post by aril at Oct 9,2008 12:11pm
The modern day skinhead movement is not what it was when it first started. They've taken it to the next level and ultimately spread the word of true hatred for non-whites.
One can be proud of their heritage without showing extreme hatred for other races.
Please stop calling WP the skinhead movement. Thanks.

Everyone should be civil, pushing someone to the ground is lame and has nothing to do with politics or metal. I've only seen old people wearing suspenders, never understood that fashion accessory. Maybe if you had black suspenders with spikes . . picturing it conjures something more punk than metal though . . .
actually, it's hard to have a future for the master race when you sterilize yourself by wearing cramping clothing.
last time someone talked shit about spikes, I shoved them to the ground. then I realized they were talking about the one on thayer street so I apologized.

I see. That's why you don't mind if punks do it. Fucking elitist prick.
hahaha i saw this nazi dude in an arghoslent shirt and a faux hawk talking to this other dude, and he just completely got the fuck beat out of him, it wasnt a fight, it was nazi dude gets punched in the head, goes down, gets punched a few more times, stays down, lulz
sad i missed this show. no care about watain though.

Man, I really wish I could of seen that nazi douche bag get punched.

never stated they were one in the same, dude.
post by aril at Oct 9,2008 1:04pm
I think it's an absolute disgrace that they couldn't spell existence right. What the fuck is that shit.
How can anyone take NEWP seriously without a proper business card. Someone please inform them to change that.
sad i missed this show. no care about watain though.
Probably the SHARPs that were at the show, and seem to be Middle East regulars.
post by aril at Oct 9,2008 1:15pm
yea, because that alludes that they're one in the same.
they could have been SHARPs for all I know or they could have been a bunch of poseur wannabe WP kids. Obviously someone from NEWP was there.. I don't know who was there nor did I even see that kid everyone is talking about.
point being, NEWP needs to fix their card if they're going to be handing it out.

Watain got banned from one of the Canada shows for killing pigeons in the parking lot. I guess they were trying stock up on blood for the tour.
From the ajna website
WATAIN needs at least 1 liter of blood for their live rites each night. Can you assist?
Likewise, if anyone can bring carrion(pig/sheep/other heads) to add to the feast let us know by sending an email to ajna @ theajnaoffensive . com. Be sure to let us know what city you'll be attending.
Recompense will be made when/where it can.

HELP!-My bass went missing at the end of the night.I don't think anyone stole it.Everybody there seemed like they had a coffin case for their guitar and I think mine got lost in the shuffle.I'm left handed and broke so it's all I have, If you know anything give me a call no questions asked.

HAIL & KILL-Keith
Revocation: don't think they really fit the show, but had some cool riffs. Have they ever had a 2nd guitar player? Seems like it would help live. Def thrashy, the guitar playing was on point. I think the 2nd song they played was the best. Some songs were too long, and some of the solos a bit overdone. But you can tell their influences are awesome and that's important these days with so many shitty bands who don't even know who Death or Exodus is, just JFAC and Municipal Waste. Will be catching them at the Brick House this month, I think a band like this will grow on me.
Cold Northern Vengeance: one of the reasons I came to this show. I could care less about a bands racial views, the music is awesome. The type of stuff I look for. Like Rev said, all the songs are totally different sounding. The bass player threw his bass and almost hit my friend. Listened to the cd on the way home, well done.
Book of Black Earth: hate to sound like everyone else, but not my cup of tea. I thought the keys added to the sound. Bought a patch from them and learned from the keys guy there would be no blood at this show.
Withered: was outside for most of the set, getting my head right. Sounded like Georgia swampy Black Metal. All leading to...
Watain: I guess the rest of you were spoiled last year with the blood and whatnot. I thought they were awesome. The singer looked so demonic, yelling to the crowd. I'm not super up on their catalog, but the songs were easy to get into. True Black Metal doesn't come around much so I jump at the chance. I definitely need to get some of their cds.
As far as the white power propaganda, that shits gay. I'm glad someone called them out. if you want to be a closet nazi so be it. But in these present times, it must be hard to make people agree with your views, unless they are ignorant or brain damaged. Its such a waste of time to hate the fact jews run the world, or black people hang out and rip off welfare, or that white people are so damn judgemental and think they are superior oftentimes. Its only the small ignorant fraction that creates these stigmas.

You'd think that whoever runs the world would be superior? nobody should be proud of anything. hope you find your bass keith, good show.

Thanks for the review. I said it before and I'll say it again. WE ARE NOT A NSBM BAND... Take your politics and drive them up yer ass. This music is sonic left hand path occultism.
I also listen to Thorrs Hammer and make rap music making me racially diverse.

"We really need to hit our white race preservation quota this month. Alright, what's the perfect place to promote this? I'VE GOT IT! We'll promote our group at the Watain show; preserving the white race, exterminating humanity in the name of Satan, those viewpoints fit together nicely...right?"

I thought watain was the nsbm band? ;p They are from Europe afterall.

I stand corrected. Racism and Occultism are 2 different things, good to know you fall under the latter. Wish I had more money to buy the cd, I will in the near future.
Stick to your loathsome punk-music instead, it suits the greatness of your ideals much better...
i had a killer time on da bus. glad i came out. right now i'm in europe raging in norway.
awsum!

GRAVESIDESERVICE was there and loved every minute of it. To bad there were no bloody brains, heads, or bones on stage. It needed more death. Come on were gravesideservice we need more bizarreness...
SHARPS at the rockabilly show upstairs weren't down with the white power shit. Sound guy did what the band wanted: a ton of over the top delay. When bands go over on time, other bands like WATAIN get less time. It not like you are playing a show in front of your friends in your basement. Alcohol permits/entertainment permits include curfews etc. Pro Up assholes! Also I did the sound for Watain upstairs last year. Thanks for your compliments!
Also Middle East is also a RESTAURANT. A health code violation for blood would put them out of commission for a good while. This isn't the woods. Or NH.

GRAVESIDESERVICE are a bunch of fags, one of the members even tried to hand me a free cd. I turned and pretended I didnt see him. Hes a fucking big tall goof. They all suck. I heard all they do is eat virgin pussy and tongue virgin assholes on hot blondes, forcibly. They think they can just go around licking sweet warm virginas without repercussion. I saw the big bird in the band licking some hot chicks asshole and smacking her face. Fuck them.

i used to be in this band GraveSideService and they are really boring and terrible now.
