this is dumb cause i can't be in till 7 [cause tickets are sold out?] and all the bands i like are on second stage....

then ou should have gotten a ticket earlier most of the nemhf sell out. especially before 6 cause of the balcony

embrace the end: (second) sounded really tight once I figured out who they were. The schedule on the wall didn't have them on it. I had forgotten that had an older CD and not just the CM one that is out now. They played a track of it that I knew.

ghost inside, the: I kept thinking the schedule was all messed up, but it wasn't. Right before their set, the boom thing in the front was down. The sounded really good and someone was going schizo on the lighting. Testing it out maybe. They reminded me of in remembrance.

for the fallen dreams: (second) fuck!!! I ushed my way into the room. Snapped 2 pictures and they were done. That sucks. I've been listening to their CD a lot lately and im pissed. The one second of music didn't sound quiet as tight as the CD, but how can I tell with such a short sample. Im really pissed about this.

veil of maya: (second) cynic reference? I couldn't really sit there and listen, but this is the first time I saw the crowd singing along. People were moshing too. Always a good sign.

end, the: that singer was all over the place, using bullhorns, then playing drums, etc... This is basically what I remember from the station show.

trap them: (second) the band: awesome. The crowd response: folded arms. So lame when a band like this is blowing most bands in the fest away and the crowd doesn't care at all. It was pretty thinned out in the middle of the floor, too. Lame. I even went back to the stage to hear them after shooting them. They had more people photographing them that any other band. ryan even thanked just the front row.

Skeletonwitch: once the vocals were turned up, near CD quality. Granted they have been touring on the same CD for about a year. I sat upstairs for the end of their set. I also have pictues in their CD. I remember scott asking for non-black and whites so that's what I shot.

winds of plague: (second) playing tomorrow instead.
xtyranntx: (second) playing tomorrow instead.
from a second story window: (second) broke up.

keep of kalessin: seriously tight and blistering black metal. I totally respect them too for the sheer fact that the singer got off the stage when he was doing nothing.

pLaying dimmu on the PA after keep? Bad idea jeans.

cockpunch: (second) one of the only bands that I know who's whose whole premise is to make fun of the jerks that like the in both a serious and a tongue in cheek fashion and all the trucker hatted, myspace fucking hardcore kids gobble it up. Hopefully, the clap makes yoou sterile. Burn when you pee? Not for me! This is definitely the best thing to come out of the acacia strain since 30 threads about 3 guitar players.

monstrosity: they were so good... What doo you expect. Then the stage manager started ulling their stuff off the stage during their last song. A few seconds later the sound was cut. I missed it but mike came back out and threw water/soda. Then him and joeboo had a yelling match.

The second stage is all f'd up with bands not being here. WOP and xtyranntx aren't here. And fassw broke up.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 3:32pm
arsis: moved to the mainstage which is AOK with me. They sounded fantasic too so it's all good. Carina had me shooting one of the guitarists can you tell which one? Funny seeing daren back there singing. I will never get use to that.

on broken wings: (second) wow the crowd somehow knew that they were playing at this different time. It was packed up there with rowdy moshers and young stage divers. I showed up right in the nick of time to catch the chaos.

through the eyes of the dead: lou back in the band? Messed up. I thought this line up dissolved. Good to see him singing with them cause he's one of my favorite model vocalists. Anyhow. They sounded awesome but less sweeping and solos than I remember.

soilent green: (second) they sounded so good, but people just stood there hoping for for a breakdown or something. The whole front row was nothing but cameras.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 3:58pm
animosity: they took soooo long to set up. Something was wrong with the drummer's triggers. Didn't something like this happen last year? They had sound issues all through out their shortened set. This is a band that I feel like I should follow more, but haven't. I need to get animal for my station

sleeping giant: (second) I got up there just in time for the "by the grace of god" speech. My reverend senses should have been tingling cause I guess the dude is a real honest to goodness preacherman. From his seech, I hate how people do all sorts of fun things and then become christian to tell you not to do those fun things they did. Somehow I knew one of their songs. Maybe it was a cover.

oopps wrong thread.

despised icon: it seems like they have a few more chugs in the newer songs, but that second singer is ungodly. His vocals are great. This is one of those bands that the entire cast is all excellent musicians. The new bass player (max from goratory with a gijoe hair cut) fit in with the band, but the other guy banged his head the whole set. Hm... Undecided. Every member of this band is also awesome people.

first blood: (second) the place was sort of filled. The band sounded as good as ever, but I hope their lyrical content improved. It was trite at one point.

as blood runs black: they failed at showing last year. The set sounded alright, but I saw my first fight of the night during their set. It was ut down quickly.

disfear: (second) one oof my favorite CDs right now. Im pissed to be missing the pvd show. Kevord was in just about every single picture I took. The first few songs they layed I didn't care about, but after that.. Wow... I watched them longer than any other band on the fest.

heaven shall burn: metal with terrible english. Their CDs have to be mixed extremely well. They didn't sound like their CDs at all. I've been excited to see them, but their set just gets a "meh" from me. The seemed like rather nice fellows though. The guitarist forced out some english thank yous on the crowd.

municipal waste: (second) whoah... They sent a song out to satan, the thrashing of christ and I looked down at my camera "666" pictures left. I lean over to show frank white (google that name) and his camera said "777" and thus the universe was back in equillibrium, saving everything in the battle of good vs evil. The singer did 69 stage diving with the first stage diver. There was a constant circle pit. When I ran to the back of the stage, I saw kevord step out of the way of some douchebag who was crowd unch while stage diving. To the person who was doing that, please don't come to any more MW/thrash shows as you do not get it. Get bent.

Vital Remains: I don't know how their first song went. I missed the cross at the beginning (if they did it). But the song that I heard when I got there sounded good. Whether he warmed his voice They've tightened up a bit on tour. The new guitar player even head bangs during dechristianized. I could have been me, but was one of the drum beats off during that song? I kept bobbing my head at the wrong time. Scott said this was the best show of the tour. Might well have been full house throwing horns, crowd surfing, and stage diving. Excellent. the upstairs balcony opened up during their set so there were even more peoole there than all the previous bands.

no frank white the photographer. like all scum era naplam death photos are were I think he cut his teeth.

Ugh, now that the second stage is done... The photopit of the mainstage is crampt full of photographers who I've never seen before. I don't like to sound self righteous, but if you are in a new place especially when using a popup flash or p&s, don't shove someone out of the way with pro-gear. Too many people in the photopit with too little space.< /rant>

kataklysm: the sound was way too bssy in the front so I have no clue what they sounded like up there. I'll assume good cause they were getting people cheering for them. They played new stuff which I didn't know.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 7:08pm

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 7:33pm

hate eternal: wow... The first death metal band downstairs that they didn't totally fudge the sound for. It was crushing yet intellegible excet for the vocals. I couldn't really hear them, but I imagine they sounded super in the back. Only one of the songs had a morbid angel style shred session in the middle (kings I think). They pretty much just started up with the first song fast and furious and didn't stop until the set was over.

from SMNNEWS...

Ohio’s FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW have posted the following update:

“Unfortunately, we will not be able to continue the DIVINE HERESY tour or play New England Metal and Hardcore Fest. We are sorry we were not able to inform you all earlier. Due to a ruthless combination of band problems, van problems, and debt problems, we had no choice but to go home after the Toledo show. We are not saying were breaking up, we just need to get on our feet again and get some great tours for this new record. Times are tough right now for any band thats at our level, we hope you understand. Wish us luck!”

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 8:34pm
acacia strain, the: it's weird that they are here sandwiched between unlike bands. The response to them was uncomfortablely aggressive to say the least. I made fun of vincent out side foor their placement, but the crowds of western mass kids sure did prove me wrong. "they are their own genre of music now" jonathan OBW. So the set was very moshy and the constant crowd surfers landing on me made it more challenging to shoot to say the least. They played so hard that dan broke his only guitar. Someone finally let him borrow one. While he turned it down, vincent was able to keep the crowd entertained on the mic. That is a skill I seriously lack. They had a few songs that they did had vocals like cockpunch. I even went behind the band on stage to shoot from over the crowd.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 9:49pm
overkill: not playing. Lamerz.

behemoth: the stage has to be totally transformed for behemoth. They put up metal eagles, and set up an awesome sounding drum set. Inferno is one of my favorite drummers. I got to sit behind him for a couple songs upstairs here and was thoroughly impressed. That dude looks comletely sloppy which his footwork but it comes out sounding like gold. The bass went to over done for them. Sucks. Their set was really long too. They got 1 or 2 encores and it seemed like they played for an hour... Well.. It felt like an hour after all the 15-25 minute sets, but really it was 45 minutes.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 26,2008 11:37pm
shadows fall: they wheeled SF's drumset in from the side of the stage on a huge platform. Rockstars! The huge platform in front of the dimmu set up pushed the stage so brian is going to be hitting the cameras on one side and the drums on the other. I was soort of packed in for the beginning of the set and then distracted with tons of drunken metalheads in the end. I did sing along with crushing belial and of one blood.

toggletoggle post by kevord  at Apr 26,2008 11:38pm
The crowd response during Disfear was sad and pathetic. They were easily the best band I saw today.

VITAL REMAINS: Great guys.. I talked to them a bunch, and was totally shocked to find out the incredable ripping guitar player on the right of the stage is only 17!? Holy fuck, he was gnarly as hell. The drummer is only fucking 19 too, and about some of his beats being off, i asked him why he wasn't triggering and he said they wouldnt let him!? Aparantly because they were the last "opening" band that day on the main stage, they had to choose between triggers, and dropping a song from thier set list, they went with more songs.... wrong choice..

does anyone know what Animosity, Despised Icon, As Blood Runs Black or Kataklysm played as well?

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at May 1,2008 8:14am
i know despised icon definately finished with "arms of perdition", i know they played "a fractured hand", I think they played "furtive monologue" and they definately played something from "the healing process, but i dont remember which one.

Behemoth played "at the left hand ov god" and "christgrinding avenue" which are almost my two favorite deathmetal songs ever. they were the best that day by far in my opinion. Although hate eternal gave them a run for their money. Like i said b4, vital remains WOULD have been awesome i think, if they had been able to trigger their drums. You just couldnt hear them unless it was a slow beat. Let's face it, when your playing that fast you need triggers to hear what the hell's goin on. at least in the palladium you do.

---It was nice to run into some of you at the show, good times.
