This is the exact guitar:

I can't wait to get my hands on it, this puppy looks awesome.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Apr 6,2008 12:06am
looks pretty nice to me

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 6,2008 12:09am
I'm going to swap out the pups, as I assume "Smokin hot blades by G+B" = shit.

I was thinking JB/hotrail/jazz in that order.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Apr 6,2008 12:10am
that shit looks pretty hot, are you guys playing out this month.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 6,2008 12:13am

I was, like a year or 2 ago.

how much did that run you?

ive been somewhat skeptical about those RWGS, i stick with rondomusic.net for cheapies.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 6,2008 3:49pm
I got it for 360. The other two I tried bidding on sold for 490 & 560.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Apr 6,2008 3:58pm
not bad at all. looks like itll be worth the dough.

a couple things to look out for in that guitbox:

be easy on the trem, i have a strong feeling that over time that floyd could become weak from too much use. the posts and the area the trem contacts with are notorious from wearing out within a couple of years in cheapie floyds.

you already know to replace the pickup(s).

watch out for the locking nut, it may strip easily in the threading. it wouldnt hurt to upgrade it from the stock cheapo.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 6,2008 4:02pm
thanks for the tips. those are all things i'll watch for. Do you think it would be worthwhile to just swap out the tremolo and get it over with?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Apr 6,2008 4:22pm
depends on if youre will to spend that much in upgrading.

wait, good luck finding a lefty original floyd and having it fit in the trem cavity right.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 6,2008 8:59pm
holy shit, that walnut looks ridick.

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Apr 6,2008 9:23pm
What's wrong with those rails? Why would he swap em out?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Apr 6,2008 9:30pm
they're probably horribly potted, toneless squealing bastards.

it looks like most of the money put into those guitars are in the body/constructions. i bet they skimped on the electronics/trem.

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Apr 6,2008 9:41pm
hey blue, riddle me this:

I just got a free guitar from a friend. A real beater, but I'm gonna doll it up so I can wank on it. It's got terrible generic humbuckers in it right now...what's a good single coil that will fit in a humbucker spot that's pretty hot but with nice tone? Something not that pricey at all since this guitar is a piece of shmidt

GFS Dream 90
$29-$33 each (depending on finish)
http://store.guitarfetish.com/gfsdr90blbow.html

We've taken one of the sweetest pickups we make and dressed it up like in the most elegant wrapper- Black metal case with black bobbin and Stainless screws- The look is devastating, the sound furious- a KILLER pickup.

These are the brand new for 2005 Dream 90 series. New and Improved. Alnico V Magnets. We've beefed up the output- now they're a full 8.4k for the bridge, 8.2K for the neck. Neck pickups are now REVERSE WOUND for full HUMBUCKING performance with both pickups selected. Polepieces are matched to the string spread- 2 1/8" at the bridge, 2" at the neck.

They're fabulous sounding- Big and full with LOTS of P90 tone, but with a fatter, warmer and yet crunchier body. Thanks to the metal shell they resist hum fairly well, and the sense of string attack and dynamics is flat-out fabulous.

"wait, good luck finding a lefty original floyd and having it fit in the trem cavity right."

exactly. I found a site where I can order a lefty original, but I'd have to assemble it all piece by piece and it's gonna cost almost 300 bucks. I have heard really good things about the german floyds (i think schaller?) being almost as good, but I don't know if they come lefty

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Apr 6,2008 10:45pm
schaller > ofr IMO

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 7,2008 12:39am
Hey Blue, how are those GFS pickups? I just bought two 10k Lil Killers for my Jackson, but I was waiting to get the JB trembucker so I can install all three at once.

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Apr 7,2008 12:55am
Well P90s are really thick, I am hoping for something that will be brighter. You think it will take on a brighter quality in the bridge spot?

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 7,2008 1:04am
What is the guitar? It makes a big difference.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 7,2008 1:09am
Actually, I'm rethinking my PUP choices. Since I'm putting the JB into the jackson, I'm thinking of trying one of those GFS crunchy rails. If the Lil killers sound good in my other guitar I think I'll try Crunchy Rail, Lil Killer, Power Rail.

This happened to my KE3 a few years ago. :( I still need to get it fixed.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 7,2008 5:59pm
Okay, we're definitely going with the crunchy rails in the Ravenwest guitar, because after ordering all the various parts/pickups/shit for my other guitar, I'm just broke.

I planned on one guitar, and ended up getting 2 guitars and 2 basses in a matter of weeks. And every single one needs new PUPS and a setup.

BTW, trying to find a schaller lefty trem is going to quickly turn this into another "being lefty is gay" thread.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Apr 7,2008 6:01pm
Funniest part?

Guitar is my main instrument. I got a gibson worth thousands hanging up behind me. I have all these new guitars, basses, recording gear, etc... but to this day I don't own a guitar amp of any kind.

Does that make me weird?

toggletoggle post by ZenErik   at Apr 7,2008 6:15pm
Yes. You are weird.

I'm also a lefty. It made percussion ensemble and drum corps a whole lot harder when I did that because every part is written with a right hand lead.

Also, took me longer to get my fingers moving for key leads.

The whole world is against us.
