no, they didn't get rid of their bass player. the last one just left. I'm guessing they got a new one. Or have one just for touring.
like eben, bassist for hire.

Peter Nordin?
I thought they issued a press release not too long ago saying the bass player (thought his name was Guther) left the band.

The bassist they are still using is Gustaf Hielm. He was supossed to leave the band a while ago but is sticking around for touring. Meshuggah is going to look for a new bassist once touring is over or when they have the time to go through auditions. Peter Nordin left before chaosphere so he has been out of the band for a while.

Yeah. Peter Nordin was the old bassist. He was forced to quit the band in the middle of their touring for Destroy Erase. He got a weird ear sickness where he would get dizzy at random moments and couldn't hear well. Then they found Gustaf, who wasn't really a metal guy, but he's talented so it worked out for a while.

News came up that Gustaf was leaving, but that was close to 2 years ago. He still plays all the shows with the band. They're going to have to either keep him or find a new guy, because even though both guitarists play 8 strings (the new songs would sound fine without bass), there is bass guitar on 'Nothing'. Plus they still play a lot of old songs live that just wouldn't work without bass.

wierd, but i don't understand why they'd trash a good bass player even if they are playing 8 stringers.

sure they might have the extra low string, but it still doesn't have the 'thunder' of a bass guitar.

have fun at meshuggah tonight rob. wish i could go ;/
