Succubus - I've now made it my official resposibility to reply to you everytime.. so thank you hehe

George - don't worry about it man, no hard feelings whatsoever. There's so many people out there looking to scam bands that I can understand people's concerns when money is involved. Feel free to call me anytime if you have any questions. My # is on the site.

complete gayness. please learn how to actually book a fest.
charge bands to play then force them to sell tickets. awesome.
your smart. get a clue. if you promoted right and could just put a band on and not make them PAY.

die.

One of my friends at school is good friends with Fetus, so I'll definitely and probably chill with the guys afterwards. It sounds like a sick line up so far.

I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. If it's not right for a band than they shouldn't take part, no hard feelings. A lot of bands have no problem with selling 30 tickets to a show like this, especially since we incorporate more than most fests do to help bands get extra promotion for themselves, other than just taking their money and giving them tickets and then running off. It should be easy for most bands to make $90-$180 in profit on tickets alone, not even counting merchandise sales, which we don't take a piece of, unlike other fests.. it's investing in your band rather than paying to play...if you know you can't at least break even it's probably not your type of deal. But don't knock the entire fest & the bands participating because it's not the right thing for you.

toggletoggle post by xericx   at Jan 16,2004 11:13am
if your an unsigned band you should have to pay to play, or sell tix to play, becuase what if you totally suck and you bring absolutly nobody to the show for your band?the promoter could have easily have gotten a band that would make him or her money. You're probably pissed cuz you couldn't find anyone to get to buy the tickets to see youir shitty band. p.s. New Jersey metal fest makes you pay to play also, no one has said anything about that.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 16,2004 3:14pm
the OLD NJ fest did.. and that's why it sucked and I never went.
and then cosick got NJ bought out by massconcerts
hence, I went in nov.

the milwaukee metal fest still does it so all bands that are not requested to play have to pay $1000 for thier 20 minutes on whichever stage. All the shitty power metal bands that played SUCKED. milwaukee was basically a "my family collected $1000 so we are 45 years old and playing". Milwaukee was the worst turture ever.

so it can work both ways... shitty bands can raise the bread too. It's all about quality control.

toggletoggle post by SinPromos at Jan 16,2004 3:15pm
bump

toggletoggle post by SinPromos at Jan 16,2004 3:20pm
rev.- good point. Quality control is extremely important.. some fests just take the first bands who apply so they can get their money... we're definitely being as picky as possible.. we only have 20 spots for unsigned talent... 9 are filled already, and we've gotten about 30 press kits.. a lot are still being looked over by the panel, and we extended the deadline to allow some more bands to apply too. It's a long process filled with terrible demos and some really tight bands who aren't getting the recognition they deserve... we're trying to help out the latter.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 16,2004 3:33pm
so... bands pay $360 and get 30 tickets that they have to sell?

see, that's just the sales spin. moving the "risk" and the "sales" from the box office/promotion company to the artist. Not my favorite thing to do. I guess if SimPromo was big (like massconcerts big) and could absorb losses and had the ticket sales infrastructure, that would be one thing. but I guess since you don't have that, you need to move the rick and sales to what I call the "cut-co" concept.
Were many sellers sell to their families.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Jan 16,2004 6:04pm
if you ask me, this is a pretty sweet opportunity for any band. i most definetly did send in a press kit for this. i would pay 360 bucks to play with burnt by the sun or dying fetus any day, even if there were 10 people there to see us. id rather pay that than 1000 bucks to play milwaukee with 100 crappy power metal bands as rev said.

toggletoggle post by SinPromos at Jan 17,2004 2:17am
thanks blue.. your band kick ass too.. extra thanks for the buttons.. my pocket book needed a new button-boost bad. I'll give you a call tommorrow to chat, or feel free to call my cell too .. #'s on the site

toggletoggle post by MarkKevorkian  at Jan 17,2004 2:23am
Fuck paying to play a show. That is foolish. Unless someone else pays for us to play we will never lower ourselves to that. I don't care who is playing. By the way Burnt by the Sun sucks.

toggletoggle post by SinPromos at Jan 17,2004 2:31am
it's not paying to play if you have 30 fans... it's investing in having a good show..

toggletoggle post by MarkKevorkian  at Jan 17,2004 2:36am
I do not mean to sound high on myself, because that is not what I mean. I am just saying if we weren't invited to play, then maybe we shouldn't be there. That is not saying that we are not good enough, but Fuck paying to play.

MarkKevorkian said:

I don't know dude..that kind of sounds like you think you're better than every band who sent a kit in for submission into the show... It's totally cool if it's not the right thing for your band, that's very understandable for many bands out there, but no need to shit on the bands who are taking advantage of an opportunity, or a single person who's busting their ass to put something together for the metal community.

toggletoggle post by MarkKevorkian  at Jan 17,2004 3:11am
I think you are you are misreading me. I understand you have money put into this. I also understand that bands want a chance. Personally I would rather be invited, and until that point I will not pay. That is a goal on my part, not an insult on yours or anyone elses. I apologize if I came off in a bad light. I think that everyone that knows me and Kevorkian's Angels will tell you that that we are not the kind of people to be disrespectful, or put down the local scene.

toggletoggle post by SinPromos at Jan 17,2004 4:14am
I hear ya... honestly, I've never seen your band..but I've heard some tracks that Joe sent me over, and def. think you're good and be more than willing to have you play if you were ever interested, now or in the future events.. I only invited one band that I can think of to play, and they haven't accepted yet. But I've gotten to see them live many times and love em, I even offered them a deal of only paying half of the ticket money upfront because I know them well enough. It's hard because I don't want to ask anyone to do the ticket thing, I guess I hope that if people who know me want on they'll give me a ring or an email, because I hate pushing the ticket thing in all honesty. As fair as I think it is, and as much as we are trying to give bands in return, I know it's just not right for some bands and I would hate to feel like I pushed it on anyone.. so anyways.. enough with these politics..this is me.. if you see me at a show say hello:

That's exactly why I'm not too fond of the idea. We'd all be competing to sell to the same crowd and there's only so many people to go around.

That is gospel to me. Basically all the bands around here would be trying to sell to the same people, its almost like a contest.

Every band should know about 30 people that would buy tickets, true, but then again they are probably the same people another band knows as well.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jan 24,2004 5:17pm
hmm well i'm on the guest list for this..so i'm not buying any tickets..but maybe people should go to their friends and family first and then bands can help each other out? like 2 buy from band A 2 from band B..i dunno..i know though, easier said than done

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2004 5:58pm
that's a round robin approach....
make up teams like survivor.

The band who sells the most tickets gets a nice sloppy blowjob from Rip Taylor and Bruce Villanch at the same time!
