I got this old g4 mac that I only use to record some music that I probably haven't turned on in a few months. I booted the old sucker up a few minutes ago and after messin' around with some software I updated I clicked "restart" . Instead of restarting the damned thing shut off and now it won't turn on...at all, like the power cord isn't plugged in but it is. What the fuck could that be?

it's probably a liberal or an immigrant (??) try taking it back to the bodega you bought it from

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 23,2008 12:04pm
it's because it's a mac.

It probably is a liberal...or at least a lousy democrat.

What the hell could it be?...other than a liberal/democrat/or just simply a commie mac. The power supply shit the bed?

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Jan 23,2008 1:10pm
It's on strike until you give it free health care.

toggletoggle post by Hungtableed at Jan 23,2008 4:02pm
So...my computer is a red commie liberal who is on strike because it doesn't have free healthcare.

Phew! That's what I was hoping for. I'm just glad it isn't my power supply.
I guess all I have to do is vote Democrat and the sucka will boot right the hell up...

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Jan 23,2008 4:03pm
In all seriousness, me no speaka the Mac.

There's not even a system32 to delete? THIS IS MADNESS

toggletoggle post by Hungtableed at Jan 23,2008 4:11pm
I know huh. I wish I could boot it up to delete my system32.
Shit, must be George Bush's fault.

I'm assuming that it must be the power supply because I don't even get a damn light, sound, flutter, or a flick when I try to turn it on.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Jan 23,2008 4:18pm
That'd be the first thing I'd look at if it were a real computer. Could be a short somewhere inside the case that's tripping something - see if there's a "test/reset" button on the supply. Other than that... In most circumstances, you should at least get the power supply fan even if the motherboard is fuxxorzed... That said, I've seen some weird shit. (Bad memory stick makes the whole box DEAD DEAD DEAD? Makes no sense, but happened all the same.)

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Jan 23,2008 4:21pm
Video was AMAZING, BTW.

toggletoggle post by Hungtableed at Jan 23,2008 4:25pm
I think I got some old memory laying around somewhere, maybe I'll give that a whack. Mac power supplies are gay. The one I have has a 22-pin connector going to the motherboard. The only power supplies I can find online and in stores have either 20 or 24. What the fuck is up with that?

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Jan 23,2008 4:35pm
Could it be the power supply?

MAC PROPRIETARY PARTS

HAHAAHAHAHA

SRSLY, man, good luck - from my experience, Apple really doesn't want no uppity users fixin' their shit. That's why there's an Apple store.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Jan 23,2008 4:38pm
In after delete system32.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Jan 23,2008 4:39pm
He's right, mac doesn't want you to fix it. They want you to buy a new one.

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Jan 23,2008 5:29pm
I guess my mac-o iza dunzo.

That's cool though, I only used it to record guitars and vox for my one man band projects. The only reason why I used the mac is 'cause when you record and want real-time play-back PCs buffer the sound and thus create an unworkable delay. I just tried using my PC to record the guitar tracks for my current project and learned that it records at real time and only just "delays" the out-put if you want a real-time play back. Oh well, fuck da mac - let it wallow in it's red-commie liberal-non-free-health care state.

you could use your PC if you buy a cheap interface and disable your onboard soundcard.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Jan 23,2008 7:48pm
Yeah, PCs are memory hogs recording live sound if you're not using an external card. Playing back 40 bazillion tracks will freeze the fuck outta mine.

its the cable to the power switch 9:10... it was a problem on the older g4s. play with the cable and it will probably turn on.

I give that a stab. When you open the damn thing up it seems like everything is pretty accessible.

my friend is having the same issue with his pc but it turns back on (black on to you mr n). he tracked it down to a tempermental motherboard.

on a side note, there is nothing you can do on a mac that you can't do on a ppc. even protools now runs better on pc (from a friend who designs protools and uses a mac)

I was watching that video again last night and cracking the fuck up. After trying to get on here and check emails at a Mac home, it was so much funnier. (Does anyone else get pissed off at an OS that can't stop bending over backwards to guess what it is you want it to do? I don't want shit on my desktop fucking moving around and trying to jump in front of my cursor. You just lay there and hold still, I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I WANT, THANK YOU.)
