Last time I went to Emerald Square Mall some mall rat girl sitting outside the door asked me if I liked the first two bands, presumably to sell me a ticket. I told her we weren't scene kids(I was with friends) and walked away and she goes "Fine, go be a bro somewhere else." |

A show where the average age is 1/2 my age and filled with all dudes in tight pants? Sign me up! I'm glad that I watched that news story on emo kids before coming here. Plenty of emo's I'm like sure. I'm glad at this point that I'm sweating like crazy and haven't changed/showered in like 4 days.
farewell the sky: they started a bit late. Like they started when they were suppose to have been ending. Actually exactly to the minute. Their set sort of fell apart. The sound dude were able to replace the kick drum while a song was going on. But then one of the guitarists broke a string. Whatzs the point of three guitarists if you get caught like that with one broken string. They finally got a new guitar and continued. Their set picked up from these, but a lot of people in the audience didn't seem to know if they should be enjoying themselves, worry about getting cigarettes or worrying about a flying fist coming down on their head. |

meursault: they were a bit more tough than the first band. Non of that off-key clean singing. Some people seemed more into it in the front. I mean a few people without cameras. I wouldn't know what that is like, I'm never without a camera and force everyone around me to hold, carry, and keep a camera. I don't care if you just carry it around to be cool like that skateboard. Um what.

wake up call, the: all the lights have been on the entire time. These guys had side and floor lights. That's going to make this place feel like under the heat lamps at KFC. Their set was well done (get it? Another food reference). Young kids (from derry), but they were gelling better with the crowd. It was pop-punky mixed with hardcore. |

Always & Forever: these guys were listed as a "surprise" guest. It should have "usual guest" since they play more that 1/2 of the shows I shoot here. They turned on even stronger back lighting, but also could not have thehouse lights turned off so all they did in the end was warm the water on top of the cabs and make my armpits wetter. They played all new songs except for like one old song. New meaning that no one else has heard them. That didn't stop people from moshing and singing a long to songs that they didn't know. Their aim with water bottles is sub-par.
armor for the broken: no clue right now if I've seen them before or not it got sooo hot in there during their set. I had to go outside afterwards and my cammera lenses fogged up constantly. Oh well. They set was pretty over the to. The music wasn't too bad. The singer started off sound checking with some synth lines from BTBAM. People all lined the sides of the stage and the singer kept trying to get them to move back, but it didn't work. |

yeah, someone got hurt or something. when the homefront went on, I noticed that the room was sort of empty. after 1 or 2 songs, dave came in and said that someone got hurt so the show was canceled. everyone had to be out in 20 minutes or the police would be there. The homefront started up again and dave went mad cause everyone needed to get out. The PA was cut and the homefront stopped after that next song and vanna tried to set up really quick, but it was obvious that they weren't going to be able to do anything. as I was walking back to my car, I walked by the owner and a cop. as I got to the street, another car and a paddy wagon. wow... must have been a slow night in manch-vegas. |

I hate this. The American Legion was pretty much the only hope that I know of for all-ages shows. There were some awesome shows coming.
For all that it's worth, I hope they re-group and keep things going.

also, people say fuck the cops, but in this case, the cops weren't anywhere near the place before the owner called them. Someone got hurt, he called them and met them in the street.
The "supervisor" showed up first and said "so all these people are leaving?" and walked calmly up to the place. If anything happened after I left, then people are retards. Once the owner called the po-po there ain't nothing you are going to do that will help anything except leaving and then being angsty once you are safely away from the cops. |

I would like to point out to people who bitch about Rev's review (usually people in the bands) again...Aaron is not a reviewer. He is a photographer and a damn fine one at that. If you've ever taken the time to read through his reviews, you would realize that his reviews are not always about the music. Most of the time, they do document what was going on at the show as an event, though. If the fact that it was hot as hell was one of the most notable things about the show, I don't know what to tell you. But getting all huffy puffy about it is only going to make you look desperate for approval. You know how you played, you know what you could have done better, you know what you did well. If you don't, then you should start paying attention more and stop caring about what people say about you.
