Do you, like me, get sick of hearing "officials" saying "our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims"
Fuck, it is so over used and almost heartless. I just heard that gay ass statement with the bridge collapse.

I always thought that if I were a survivor of some so called "tragedy" and I heard the president or some other empty suit talking about how "the country mourns" or "our prayers go out to the victims and families" I'd be compelled to write a hand written letter to the offender stating my disgust at their cold and insincere attempts to make themselves look better to the public by pretending to express sorrow.

I got annoyed when the president made that speech about the VA Tech killings, he said some crap about how "the entire country is in mourning and our hearts go out to the victims, etc...." It bothered me first that he expects me to mourn the deaths of people I don't know. Secondly, I was almost positive he was probably loving the whole thing because it gave him time to take a break from working on more important things like the war in Iraq.

True, good to know I am not the only one with contempt for empty "sympathy". I would punch a fuck if something happened that involved a family member or friend and they said that shit. Shit, they just said that bullshit AGAIN on the news during a press conference. I am going to watch Colbert. Fuck this shiot.

back in high school i almost got expelled for refusing to show sympathy for columbine victims.

It would be much better if the sympathy was genuine. What really annoys me is when they bring religion into their insincere sympathy. Politicians need to stop assuming that everyone in this country is Christian. Exactly whose "prayers" are they talking about?... certainly not mine.

you aren't christian? well then get out of the fucking country.
IN GOD WE TRUST.

Everybody in all of those tragedies was going to die anyway, who gives a fuck? What are the odds you'd even be friends with any of those people, never mind actually acknowledge them in your every day life if you did know them?

the same fucking thing happened to me, though it wasn't a threat of expulsion, it was a threat of action. i used to wear a trenchcoat long before the killings, and i didn't think it was necessary to stop wearing it simply because some fuckheads killed students while wearing trenchcoats.

and i agree with the feigned sympathy. if you want to show respect, keep your fucking mouth shut. what are you praying for? if you want to bring religion in, the "god" you are praying to is the same "god" that allowed the tragedy in the first place.
