i readily admit my stupidity with shit like this...

WHAT DO I WANT TO USE TO IMPORT CDS?
default looks to be AAC Encoder
but "Apple Lossless Encoder" just sounds more gooder
or do I want to use the "MP3 Encoder" ?

AND

WHAT DO I WANT TO SET MY IMPORT BITRATE AT?
default looks to be 128 (high quality), but wikipedia tells me

32 kbit/s — MW (AM) quality
96 kbit/s — FM quality
128–160 kbit/s — Decent quality; difference can sometimes be obvious
192 kbit/s — Good quality; difference can be heard by only a few
224–320 kbit/s — High, near transparent, quality

help a dude out, please

I use CDEX @ 128bit cause they are fucking mp3s.

To optimize space, apple recomends you use AAC at 128 kbps.

going any higher in quality then that won't really make a difference, considering the speakers you're probably going to be listening out of

i'm probably going to get a new head unit thing for my car since i've been on a downloading binge and all these burned cds are just a pain in the ass...

still want to go with AAC @ 128?

and thank you, rev and niccolai

I rip @ 192 typically, because they sound better if you burn an audio CD out of them, any higher and they're too bulky for mass storage, and any lower, and they start to loose quality. I haven't made the full jump to AAC yet, but I've got quite a few new albums I've ripped in AAC.

if you're just ripping them to throw on your ipod and not using them for music archiving, go with 128k AAC, you'll fit more stuff on it.

Use Audiograbber with the LAME codec. Rip at 128, you'll be happy.
