I guess stuff about Pari Hilton was too important to announce on the news that seven new world wonders were voted and presented on July 7th this year. they are

Great Wall of China
Petra, Jordan
Christ Redeemer, Brazil
Machu Picchu, Peru
Chichen itza, Mexico (the pyramid)
The Roman Coliseum
Taj Mahal

what the hell USA!

I guess they had 21 to vote from and they were letting people vote.

those were the 21 you could vote from

Neuschwanstein Castle and Stonehenge and Angkor Wat would have been my choice

I'm suprised the Great Pyramids of Egypt didn't make it.
I would have voted for Angkor Wat too...but I do gotta say...
Stonehenge is a bit disappointing when you visit it regardless
of the mystery/mysticism etc surrounding it. You can't really
even get near it anymore as its completely fenced in....

cuase of the graffiti, not to mention they are doing archaeological work on it.

My guess that the pyramids didnt get it is because they were part of the original 7

funny, the pyramids are the only surviving wonder left of the original

Wait, the World Trade Center wasn't - oh. Oh, yeah. Oh, dear. That's right. Never mind, you were saying?

I know huh? That's fucked up. I mean, such structures are dreck compared to what is possible these days, but shit, that was sooooooooooo long before the advent of even the most primitive cranes. That shit was built by slave laborers who use their hands. The size of one of those blocks alone in consideration to the fact that it was built by only man power is a wonder of the world.

Petra, Jordan is pretty fucking insane though.

I would have voted for The Acropolis (just cuz I'm Greek and I love that shit), the Neuschwanstein Castle, The Stonehenge, Angkor, and the Pyramids of Giza. But seriously, just about everything else on there is pretty sick too. I'm gonna be going to school sometime eventually for archaeology (not into the automotive thing as a career, but more for fun), so that kind of stuff, especially the ancient engineering just fascinates me.

The Colosseum is the only one I've been to. Made me feel like an anachronism and wish it was 1700 years ago so I could witness - OR PARTAKE! - in the martyring of Christians.
